WINFRED "BROWNIE" BROWN 1951 - 1981? PILOT FTW ACF GSW DAL DEN Some of you will remember Captain Winfred "Brownie" Brown ..... Central/Frontier .... lives on a cattle ranch out by Weatherford, Texas .... I've had several inquire about him recently .... I am forwarding a couple emails concerning "Brownie" .... Enclosed you will find one from Phil Castilloux ...... ==================== Maybe you can pass this on to your list of pilots. I just talked to Winfred Brown "Brownie" a couple of weeks ago. He is now 88 years old. Still living down in Texas. He is all by himself and was really happy to hear from me. He also has Macular Degeneration and is legally blind, plus sever arthritis. I know he would love to hear from anyone that would get in touch with him. He was in very good spirits. Give him a call -Phil Castilloux ==================== and one from Billy Walker ... Hi Phil, I talked to Brownie today. He couldn't remember me at first, but was real happy I called him. I think he's pretty lonely down there. He's 300 miles from Houston so he doesn't see the one son who used to be close to him. Sad! With both Macular Degeneration AND arthritis he's in tough shape. I guess he has a hired hand to look after his cows and such, but he never sees anyone. It would be great if we could coax some of the Houston folks up to see him one of these days. There are several of the Frontier guys retired near Lake Conroe. I will copy them in just in case some might get a hankerin' to run up his way. -Billy Walker ==================== -Phil Stallings (3/19/09) W B Brown Pilot seniority date of 3/16/51 on the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list. He is not on the 9/1/81 list. He is mentioned on some CN FFC flights. -Jake Lamkins (3/30/10) From Bill Trimble... Brownie died yesterday, 10/01/10. He had been in a rest home for several months after a fall in his home that broke his hip. -Billy Walker (10/2/10) Winfred B Brown 89 Weatherford, TX -Intelius.com (10/2/10) I've just received word from Billy Walker via Bill Trimble that Capt Winford Brown has Gone West on 10-1-10. Regretfully, -Ace Avakian (10/2/10) If he's 89 then he was born in 1921 or so and would have retired at 60 in 1981. I looked thru my 1981 FL News but found nothing about his retirement. -Jake Lamkins (10/2/10) Posted at the FL Club: From: Jake LAMKINS Date: Sat Oct 2, 2010 6:50 pm Subject: Pilot Winfred Brownie Brown has died --- On Sat, 10/2/10, Billy Walker wrote: Rcvd From Bill Trimble... He had been a flight instructor during WW II so I learned a lot on these flights because he was a great instructor as well as a good person. He was a rather quiet person until he got to know you but he never met a stranger, that I ever saw..... Great sense of humor too. I'm not sure but I think he retired medically with cardio-vascular problems around the time the DFW domicile closed, whenever that was. He loved Weatherford TX and his cattle. I never met his family but I heard alot about them. My condolences to them and I hope that his flight west is a smooth one. -H. A. "Jack" Frost (10/9/10)
