WARREN HECKMAN 1950 - 1980 PILOT DEN FATHER OF PILOT RON HECKMAN The only pilots that were with Ray Wilson were Art Sinclair, Bert Clark, Jug Jella, Willie Hurt, Johnny Myers, Don Bridie and Warren Heckman. There may have been others but not with Monarch/Frontier. -Ace Avakian (2/22/00) I am so very happy to report that Warren Heckman is still on this side of the grass and doing well. I just had a great visit with him. I flew a lot with Warren and enjoyed it. He learned to fly at my Dad's CPT school in Laramie, WY during WWII. A year or so ago both Warren and Brad Hurd got re-acquainted with the DC-3. Warren is/was not related to Roger Heckman but IS the father of Ronnie Heckman another Frontier/Continental pilot. Ron used to fly for me years ago when I had a small FBO. Like, Warren, he is a great aviator in his own right. Not long before Frontier's demise, Ron had a motorcycle accident and lost his left leg below the knee. He was able to come back from that and proved once again his aeronautical skills using a prosthesis. He became skilled at racquet ball and could jog as well. He hardly limped with his "new" foot. It was terrific hearing Warren's voice tonight and I am delighted to report that the reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated. Billy Walker (10/18/04) Warren retired Dec. 10, 1980 with 30 years per the October 1980 FL NEWS. -Jake (11/28/04) W. D. HECKMAN DEN copilot per 11/4/55 FL Roster. W. D. HECKMAN Notation says Warren DEN captain DOB 12/10/20 DOH 5/10/50 per Feb 1960 FL Roster. -Jake Lamkins (10/31/11) I had a very enjoyable visit with both Barbara and Warren Heckman. Both are doing fine and still in their long-time home in Scottsdale. Sadly, Warren suffers from dementia but remembers things from long ago. -Billy Walker (7/7/15) Do you know anything about the passing of Warren Heckman, captain and spent his last days in Phoenix? -Tara Lamoreaux (6/20/17) No, I haven't heard anything. He would be 96 now. Let me know if you get any more info and I'll do some checking too. -Jake Lamkins (6/20/17) Billy Walker Someone asked me if I knew whether Warren Heckman had flown west. I have nothing - have you heard anything? He's 96 now. I couldn't find anything online. -Jake Lamkins (6/20/17) Thank you My mom called Barbara his wife and was told he'd passed but she couldn't get a date. According to Barbara he was 97 so I'm guessing recently? Quick scan of PHX obits gave me nothing. -Tara Lamoreaux (6/20/17) I spoke with Warren a while back. He is still in the Phoenix area. I will try to call Warren & Barb and holler back acha! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Holy Shit! Warren had Gone West in March at 97. His son, Ron, YESTERDAY!!! Ron had recently been hit by a car. Damn! Reminded me of Vic David's demise... -Billy Walker (6/20/17) Tara Billy Walker phoned Barbara and confirmed that Warren flew west in March and his son Ron was died from a car accident yesterday. -Jake Lamkins (6/20/17) I thank you for the information. My mom and Barbara were roommates in PHX when they flew many years ago. And my father and Warren also flew together for a long time. My heart goes out to Barbara, such incredible loss in such incredible loss in such a short time. I imagine she is around my mom's age which is 81, there was quite an age gap between the ladies and the gentleman. Thank you again for the assistance and I'm sorry to ask so bluntly, sometimes dealing with my mom can be a little difficult thus I am rattled. You do an amazing job here and I appreciate it all. -Tara Lamoreaux (6/21/17) Billy, Thanks for contacting me for information about my dad. I have attached some scanned photos and the program for the memorial service we held. -Judd Heckman (6/21/17) Thanks for sending the additional info. I'll be building a memorial webpage for both Warren and Ron. -Jake Lamkins (6/21/17) FLacebook and FL Club FLight West: The Heckmans I just confirmed that pilots Warren Heckman flew west on Mar 1, 2017, age 96, and that his son pilot Ron Heckman flew west Jun 19, 2017, age 73. -Jake Lamkins (6/21/17) Sorry to hear this. Warren. -Ada Gehman (6/26/17) Photos from 1962 and 1967 reprinted with permission from the book FROM THE COCKPIT TO THE GALLEY by Bonnie C. Dahl and Patty A. McNeill. -Jake Lamkins (6/27/17) FLacebook and FL Club FLight West: Warren Heckman DEN pilot Warren Heckman's memorial webpage is posted at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Warren_Heckman.html At age 96 Warren is #16 on our Oldest FLight West Manifest. -Jake Lamkins (6/30/17) I have some wonderful memories of Ron. I had been flying with Ron's father, Warren, at good ol' Frontier Airlines. Warren had learned to fly in my father's Civilian Pilot Training school, Laramie, WY., during WWII. I loved flying with Warren. We'd later work together at America West Airlines in the pilot training program there. Through Warren I came to know Ron. Ron worked for me at a small fixed base operation I owned in Denver. From there Ron went with Frontier as a pilot August 1, 1974. Like his father, Ron proved to be a respected pilot for his demeanor and smoothness. Ron was later injured in a motorcycle accident causing the loss of a leg below the knee. Undaunted, Ron would overcome this and return to the flight deck retiring from Continental in 2002. The irony would be his having Gone West within three months of his father. Warren was 96. Ron just 73. I miss them both! -Billy Walker (7/7/18)
