TIM BUNGER 1976 - 1986 FLIGHT ATTENDANT, ACTING DIRECTOR-FLIGHT SERVICE, MANAGER-STATION SERVICES ANALYSIS AND PERFORMANCE DEN MARRIED TO FLIGHT ATTENDANT BARBARA LAMB BUNGER FLacebook Tim Bunger is with Barbara Bunger. Happy Anniversary to my beautiful wife -- 36 years! (Pic of them in 1984.) (3/10/20) FLacebook Tim Bunger Other Life Event Yesterday After 44 years of full-time work, July 3, 2020 was my last day of full-time employment! Now on to a forecasted 30 years of more spending time with family, plus golf, skiing, biking, hiking, and travel -- while trying give back through volunteering and continuing to pursue life-long learning. (7/3/20) FLacebook Post Tim Bunger Apr 2, 2021 What a day of firsts, but not all good! DISCLAIMER - I Use FB to let my friends know what is happening in my personal life and this is not a fun post, but wanted you all to be aware -- not looking for sympathy, it is what it is, and will work out as God has planned! As you know, I stopped in Taos NM my way home from Ft Worth Tuesday to ski with a friend Michael Healy. We had a great day on Wednesday and he headed home Thursday morning while I planned to ski until 1 pm and drive the 6 hours home Thursday evening. Unfortunately about 11 am I crashed on the very steep Katchina run, which I left a Pic of on the Wednesday post, Ski patrol estimated I slid 100 yards, although I believe that is a bit much. When did finally stop the patrol was there almost Immediately, and gave me my first sled ride to the clinic. X-rays showed nothing broken, but I had complete paralysis in my left leg! So I got my first ambulance ride 30 miles down the mountain into the Taos hospital. Still fearing some kind of spinal issue they took a CT; and this is where it gets WIERD! The ER doctor came in to tell me I have multiple tumors in my brain, one in my lung, and one on my spine. The current concensus is that my leg gave way while skiing, probably from the brain tumors, not that the skiing caused the fall and the paralysis. Taos put me back in an ambulance to Taos airport and medivaced me straight to the Loveland Airport and a short ambulance ride to Medical Center of the Rockies (Level 1 Trauma Center) 1.5 hours of MRI last night still showed no spine issues, so Neuro Surgeon is perplexed. Had lung biopsy this afternoon, but estimated 3-4 days for results. PT/OT in this afternoon and got me up, got some movement in leg and gave me bed exercises to do to retain brain (no jokes from the gallery) They may also send me to an in-house rehab facility to help relearn to walk, although my bigger concern is the impact of the brain tumors. Only time will tell... The ski area drove my car to the hospital and my brother generously drove his truck and trailer down last night and back today; 12 hours round trip to ferry my car, plus skis, golf clubs, clothing, and other gear home! You are welcome to reach out, but I may not be able to respond quickly. I will provide FB updates as they become available. Thank you for your prayers and support! Tim Bunger April 3, 2021 Update Nothing much new, still waiting for biopsy results which, due to Easter, will probably be Monday. Unfortunately the cancer seems well metastasized; brain, back, lungs, but trying to stay positive. Leg is still not working, but thankfully no pain. PT has me doing some exercises to try and "retrain" the left leg, a little movement yesterday! Thank you all for the kind words and we'll wishes, I will post updates here as things change. Tim Bunger April 4, 2021 Update Still not much new, mostly waiting for the biopsy so they know what we are dealing with and can make a plan. Did get a shower yesterday, which was nice, and got help to "walk" to the shower. Finding that learning to walk again is both physically AND mentality challenging! Barb was able to come over yesterday and I got several phone calls with well wishes. Thank you all for the positive notes and prayers, and have a Blessed Easter! Tim Bunger April 6, 2021 Update Okay, I finally have definitive results and it is a bit confusing... It is technically lung cancer, but I have up to SIXTY small tumors in the brain, some of which are causing the leg paralysis so they need to be reduced quickly to better ensure I get leg function back. They are not located in an area where surgery is a good option, so they will do a targeted radiation of two big tumors tomorrow and then they start my entire head Thursday. That should take about 2 weeks and then start targeted immuio and/or chemo treatment and more PT/OT. The oncologist seems optimistic that they can not cure, but give me some good quality of life, including some of my favorite activities and time with family and friends, without major side effects, but it all depends on how the brain tumors react to the radiation! I did get some strong movement out of the leg today, mostly quad and hamstring, no foot movement, with help from PT. Thank you all again for the prayers and support, and please keep them coming! Feel free to call, although be prepared for some occasional tears or confusion on this end. Tim Bunger April 14th, 2021 Update Well, it appears they are finally ready to kick me out of this "Ritz" hospital tomorrow. I got more PT/OT today, including stair training, even though we only have 3 steps to get in to our house and our master is on the main floor with the kitchen and family room, they seem to believe I can handle moving around on my own, with the orthodic and a walker -- as do I. I don't yet know the details, but believe they will make me an outpatient tomorrow, so I will go to radiation and then PT from home. Although I still have radiation through next Friday, and PT will probably go longer, both are relatively close, so should not be a major effort to make it. Plus we have already had friends and nieghbors offer transportaion assistance as needed. Barb is picking up a walker and a quad-cane in the morning and I have some other "assist" devices being delivered from Amazon on Saturday. It will be really good to be home, in my own bed, although I think I will miss the room service here... I am looking forward to the more intensive PT and to rebuilding my stability and quickly becoming FREE of the assist devices and back to some normal activities! The detailed cancer profile should be completed by April 23, which should give the doctor a very specific, targeted, recommendation for the best Immueo and/or chemo drugs to help continue to battle this cancer, so I am really looking forward to those results as well! Thank you again for all your love and support and I will update tomorrow as soon as I have more details. Tim Bunger April 19th, 2021 Update Trying not to overwhelm you all with details, so took the weekend off from posting, but now getting a lot of requests for status. Friday night I began to get more movement in my left ankle, which is awesome, but still no movement in toes; which they always said would come last. I got my final Covid shot on Saturday and, to my surprise, not even a sore arm on Sunday and none of the reported tiredness or fever -- maybe the steroids... I also saw my primary doctor late Friday and he is working on getting my intensive PT/OT started, hopefully tomorrow! Plus we are having a stairchair installed tomorrow, which will make it easier to get to the basement for laundry and all of our extra supplies, and my office and "man-cave". I am sleeping well and, despite the left left still feeling numb and just heavy, I am getting around fairly easily with the help of a walker, which is a new challenge. I have quickly learned that even making a cup of tea requires about 5 separate one handed moves from the sink to the microwave, but I am using all my process training to make it work as efficiently as possible! We have several friends who have offered to drive me to appointments this week, which will provide Barb with some relief, and one of those couples even drove up from Austin today, primarily to help me! I am so humbled by the outpouring of prayer, love, and support that it is beyond words! We are having typical Colorado spring weather, as April is our second snowiest month, it is snowing now and supposed to drop to 16 degrees tonight! So it is good my driver tonight has 4WD for the trip to radiation at 6:15, and even better that I have no appointments in the morning when the roads are likely to be iced over. Please feel free to call if you want to talk. If I can't answer at the time, I will call you back! Have a good evening! FLacebook Tim Bunger May 28th, 2021 Update Been having significant abdominal pain for a couple weeks, keeping me awake at night. Today they ordered another CT and found I have Diverticulitis, which has ruptured my colon, have a abscess, and a lot of air in belly. Admitted me to ER and are about to do surgery, which carries lot of risk. Please pray that this will be successful. (5/28/21) Tim Bunger June 7, 2021 Update They sent me home yesterday about 2 pm and it has been tough with the Wound Vac -- something else to manage and lug around, plus manage the Osteo bag. I will have home nurse care 3 days a week to help with both of those items, but also realized that 9 days in the hospital left me noticeably weaker than when I went in. Plus, they took me off the blood thinners as those seemed to be causing the bleeds under the Wound Vac. The surgeon has also said I cannot restart the chemo or the spine radiation until the incision is healed, or do most of my PT. I am already having some increased numbness in my left arm and leg and having some double vision, and am concerned about how the delay in the chemo and radiation may make those issues worse. All in all, it has been a tough week and I am struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you all for the birthday wishes yesterday and for the continued prayer and positive comments! Tim Bunger July 5, 2021 Update Sorry, know this is way overdue, but another setback has made updates more challenging.. . On June 15 while working with my home health PT I apparently had a stroke. Barb called 911 and they brought me back to the hospital, where I continue to wait for insurance to make a decision and find an open rehab bed, hopefully, tomorrow! Plan is 2 weeks in rehab. More as available, and able. Tim Bunger July 29,2021 Update So another backwards week. Still in rehab and making progress until a couple days ago. Had an MRI on Tuesday which unfortunately showed several tumors are growing, making walking more difficult and unsteady and the initial response from the doctor is brain surgery which I'm not in favor of right now. Insurance is sending me home tomorrow, with home care, but still a bit scary... Have another meeting with the oncologist on Monday we'll talk about options, chemo, palliative care and possible hospice. Thank you for your continued concern and prayers and I'll let you know when I know more. Tim Bunger Update August 18, 2021 Unfortunately my brain tumors are growing and pressing on my left motor reflexes, making it hard to walk. I met with my Oncologist yesterday and the plan is to Conintiue chemo for another 4 weeks to evaluate if it helps shrink the tumors. If not, the plan is to stop chemo and switch to hospice, I am going in to assisted care this week and will see how that goes. This is a hard decision, but I believe the right one, will share more later. His Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/tim.bunger.31 There is a lot more info and pix posted there. Posted on Tim Bunger Facebook page December 17, 2022 From Sharon Bunger Wilson It is with sadness for our loss, but joy for his going home to his Heavenly Father, that we want to let you know that Tim passed away on Tuesday evening, December 13. He put up an excellent fight but God felt compelled to call him home and put him out of his suffering. His faith was strong to the very end and as his siblings, it gives us comfort to know that we will see him again. Please remember to keep Barbara and the family in your prayers. Tim and Barbara wanted to thank all of the good friends that were an encouragement to them, came to visit, called, texted, and showered them with love. A memorial service for Tim will be held at a later date at Faith Presbyterian Church in Loveland. We will try to post updates on his page. Alice Pinkham RIP Tim Terri Peschel I have known Tim since 1976, and we have been friends for all these years. He never did anything halfway… He was thorough and smart as a whip. He was an extreme sports participant… He biked and hiked and skied double black diamonds. He was disappointed when his climb to Kilimanjaro was canceled because of Covid… .then he was skiing one day in Taos and he fell, and they took him into the hospital and ran a bunch of tests and discovered that he had metastasized lung cancer… The lung cancer that you get from asbestos. he could not believe what he was being told. He fell on the slopes because tumors on his brain were controlling his leg muscles and nerves. His health declined after this, and eventually he went into a nursing facility. It was sad to see him in this state. I visited him probably five times since his cancer diagnosis. Barb, his wife is a wonderful woman. Rest in peace, my friend..
