THELMA DOYLE 1953 - 1967 CHIEF FLIGHT ATTENDANT ACF GSW I recently ran across your Central Airlines website and really enjoyed the content. I vividly remember my first flight of any sort and it was a non-rev flight from Carter Field to Kansas City (via Love Fielfd , Paris , Ft Smith, Fayetteville , and Joplin ). I was thrilled with aviation and ultimately joined the Air Force and flew Phantoms. My Mom worked briefly for Central, first at Meacham, then at Carter Field in the old hangar. I think she was the secretary to a Mr. Vaughan who I believe was head of maintenance. Her good friend was T. Doyle, the chief Stewardess, and I still have a book that Thelma gave Mom as a thank you. I have a print of the beautiful Hubbell DC-3 framed in my home. Keep up the good work, -B.J. Polk (4/11/08) Her full name is Thelma Christine Doyle per the Jan 1954 article about the first CN stewardess class. -------------------------------------------------------- Thelma Christine Doyle Birth: Oct. 8, 1925 Apache Caddo County Oklahoma, USA Death: Jun. 8, 1984 Arlington Tarrant County Texas, USA Family links: Parents: John Joseph Doyle (1866 - 1935) Caroline Berlin Doyle (1880 - 1972) Burial: Fairview Cemetery Apache Caddo County Oklahoma, USA per FindAGrave.com where the listing is http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=39989718 Nothing at SSDI. -Jake Lamkins (10/7/13) Often called "T", Thelma started Central's stewardess program in Sep 1953 while on a six month leave of absence from American Airlines. She returned to Central in May 1957 and worked until Mar 1962. In Aug 1963 she came back again until Frontier bought the airline in Oct 1967. She did not stay to work for Frontier Airlines. She was chief stewardess during her entire Central career. -Jake Lamkins (10/8/13) Posted at FLacebook and FL Club: GSW CN chief flight attendant Thelma Doyle's memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Thelma_Doyle.html I discovered Thelma's death while researching another flight west. Still need an obituary. -Jake Lamkins (10/10/13) She would check to see if our lipstick and nail polish matched. She always dressed in beautiful outfits. -Gloria Croisant (10/10/13) I really enjoyed visiting your website. I am the nephew of Thelma Christine Doyle, Chief Stewardess of Central Airlines. Somehow, through the Internet, I found your site about Central and Frontier Airlines. Your web page about my Aunt Thelma is really incredible. It really left me speechless, and I am very thankful to have found it. Thank you very much--God Bless You! My mother, Marie, was Thelma's elder sister. My mother, Marie, was also born in Comanche County, OK, in Feb., 1921, a few years before Thelma (10/08/25). They were the 2 youngest children of John J. and Carrie (Berlin) Doyle, who were married in 1898 in Stillwater, OK. They were true Sooners. After graduating from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK, my mother Marie worked for several years for American Airlines. In 1942, she helped set up operations for American Airlines in Mexico. And, of course, my Aunt Thelma was not far behind. My mother met her husband, my father (Benjamin Sonnenberger) in Mexico and they were married in 1947 in Oklahoma City and they lived in Mexico City for a number of years. I and my 2 brothers were born in Mexico City. After attending the University of Texas at Austin, I helped to found Polaroid´s subsidiary in Mexico. I have now semi-retired in Mexico, and my 2 brothers and 1 sister (born in Oklahoma) now all live in Texas. My memories of flying in Central's DC-3's are as vivid today as when I was a child... and flying is always incredible and a new experience for me; I still remember C.R. Smith, Keith Kahle, and Lamar Muse. In any event, if you would like further information about Thelma, I would be very happy to provide that. -Bob Sonnenberger (4/21/14) It's just terrific to hear from you and know that my memorial webpages are welcomed by family members of our friends flown west. I like to say they live on in cyberspace. An obituary for Thelma would be a great addition to the page. I inherited her when the (Central Airlines) Inflight Department was created. She subsequently worked for me at Trans-Texas and Universal. She was an amazing no nonsense Lady. (2/11/21)
