Don started with CN when they started service thru FYV and others in Dec 1954. He was moved in 1969 from DAL to DEN where he remained til 86. He had Shirley Drnovsek with him. Don's brother-in-law passed away yesterday so are stopping off there first. Will check in with you when we get back. Hugs, again!!! -Shirley Drnovsek (9/14/15) Received my first ever copy of Frontier News and was so happy to have one for my very own. Don alwyas shares his with me but it was a lot better to get one of my own. It is, indeed, sad to see the passing of our people. Many of them I didn't know but felt, since I worked all of my years in Maintenace, it was particularly sad to see Arbie Dillow leaving us. He was very ill and it would probably be fun to see him tooling around heavern in one of his fancy cars. I also was at church when a tribute to Mel Maynard was made and you are right. There was not a dry eye in the place when they sang the song. Off now to run all the errands I never seem to get done since retirement. Sending you another batch of Hugs. Shirley P.S. We got lost in of all places, TEXAS on our way home from Galveston. Drove through Denton and we remarked that the "Fuqua Boys" were from there and wondered if they are still living. I worked with Ken in Line Maintenance and got to play in the poker games they always had at lunch. I also knew Ernie. Nice Guys!!! -Shirley Drnovsek (9/14/15) Have been meaning to get this note off to you sooner, but I had another knee replacement on Nov. 4th and had some complications from that. It is a longer rehab and therapy than the average person has from one of these. But, I never claimed to be normal. Merry Christmas!!!!! -Shirley Drnovsek (12/9/15) We will be having our DEN MX Picnic on June 21st. It will be the same as it is every year. Again at Squires Park on 99th and Lowell in westminster. 11:30 a.m. until everyone is full of chicken and cake. Are you coming???? -Shirley Drnovsek (3/2/16) Thanks for the info. No, I won't be coming. My arthritis makes travel too difficult. Hugs, -Jake Lamkins (3/4/16) Sorry, but I don't think arthritis is a good enough excuse to not come to the picnic. I go all over town with mine. The secret is to drink plenty of whiskey and then you don't care if you are hurting. So, is that best you can do?? Hugs back atcha -Shirley Drnovsek (3/4/16) Shirley Drnovsek passed away due to health problems Saturday, April 2, 2016. Funeral arrangements are pending. I will let everyone know as soon as I know. I just learned she flew west yesterday and I'm still shocked. She had never said anything about being ill although a few weeks ago she emailed a suggestion for my arthritis; "The secret is to drink plenty of whiskey and then you don't care if you are hurting." Shirley was one of those special people whom you always remember because of the way they make you feel. And she alway made me feel terrific with her kindness and good heart. -Jake Lamkins (4/3/16) Don, My heartfelt condolences over Shirley's flight west.
