We married in 1955 and she had to quit also - no marriage and not past 32 years old then. They all had to be mighty attractive also. Things surely did change. Her maiden name was Shirlee Hailstone. -EP Lietz (7/25/03) I just spoke with Shirlee and EP. Boy, those two certainly have been thru the ringer the past couple of years! I had a nice visit with Shirlee and a short one with EP as the Doctor was there to poke & prod. They will do a surgery on him tomorrow in hopes of finding why he keeps getting sicker and sicker. Hopefully, they will finally get a handle on things. Ol' EP can't take much more of this. That was really evident in his voice. So, I reckon the rest of us need to keep him in our thoughts and prayers. Hopefully, he will get thru it all and bounce back soon. -Billy Walker (7/22/05) I am John Lietz, the youngest son of E.P. Lietz. As you know, my dad passed away in 2005. Last October, my mother Alzheimer's became bad enough we had to bring her to Denver from Texas. My brother, Paul, and I have emptied out their house in Texas and we found a lot of Frontier stuff. We were wondering if there is any kind of a museum for the old Frontier that we could donate some of this amazing stuff. We have things like uniforms, flight bags, photos of the crew room in the 50s at Sky Harbor in PHX, flight manuals for all aircraft from the DC3 up to the 737. We also have photos of my dad and mother in their uniforms in the 50s, he as a co-pilot, she as a stew, etc. We would like to donate this stuff in their name to keep it for posterity so others can see how it "really was" back then. If there is no such museum for Frontier, is there one for airlines in general that might be interested in these items? Thank you for your help in this matter. -John Lietz (9/28/17) Greetings John! Sorry to learn of Shirlee's plight. I will move her up on my prayer list. Shirlee & EP shared something special with their life together. I think about EP nearly every day. We were very close friends and if you look back on his e-mails you'll see a large volume of exchanges between us. EP was short in stature, but a giant in character, personality, and ability. Truly, he was one of the Best of the Best! Jake Lamkins has put together a fine display of Frontier memorabilia and the son of FAL pilot Jim Roper has an airline museum. I've copied both. Jake built an obituary page to honor you father: www.oldfrontierairlines.com You might contact them. Also, Jack Distler was a close pal of EPs from their days flying C-46s over the "Hump." I hear from Jack regularly and I know he's love hearing from you & Paul. -Billy Walker (9/28/17) Connie Mitchell (1947 - 2016) Obituary Connie Mitchell August 10, 1947 - January 14, 2016 Connie Lee Maughan Mitchell passed away Jan. 14, 2016, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, from a short illness. Connie was born in Logan, Utah, on Aug. 10, 1947, to Conway Leishman Maughan and Rula Hailstone Maughan. She attended Logan City Schools and graduated from Logan High School. She worked for Frontier Airlines and Park City Transportation. Connie enjoyed the outdoors: camping, fishing and hunting. She was an avid gardener, growing fruit and vegetables, which she canned in large amounts and shared generously with others. She was happiest when feeding her friends and family. She loved traveling, new experiences and made friends easily. Her zest for life, an interest in the world around her and her dry sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends. Connie is survived by her daughter Natalie Byrne (Scottsdale, Arizona); three grandchildren, Blaise, Tatum and Morgan; her father Conway; aunt Roma Jenkins (Bountiful); sisters Pat Budge (Draper), Terri (Michael) Smith (Providence), Kathie (Ward) Wessels (Salt Lake City), Julie Maughan (Logan); and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rula, and brothers Steve and Mike. -http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/hjnews/obituary.aspx?pid=177362848 (3/10/16) Billy Walker By the way I just found an online item that Shirlee Lietz flew west in 2014. Did you know about it? I also found that she was the aunt of SLC TCA Connie Mitchell. -Jake Lamkins (9/23/17) I did not know about Shirlee. She was very nice. When EP was ailing, she kept me posted. I feel bad that I didn't stay in touch. -Billy Walker (9/24/17) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Shirlee Hailstone Lietz PHX flight attendant Shirlee Hailstone Lietz's memorial webpage is posted at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Shirlee_Hailstone_Lietz.html She married pilot EP Lietz in Jun 1955 and had to quit her career. Still need a photo and full obituary for Shirlee. -Jake Lamkins (10/2/17) Mr. Lamkins, This e-mail was a surprise to me. I will forward it to my brother Paul Lietz as well. Thank you for remembering our parents, EP and Shirlee Lietz. I have attached a FAL photo of my mother from 1954-55 (unknown the exact date of the photo). You are welcome to use it in the FAL web page. As far as an obituary goes my mother had been suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer's since the late 1990's getting so bad we had to remove her from her home in the DFW area in 2012 to place her in a care facility here in the Denver area so my brother and I could better care for her. She had forgotten EP and FAL by late 2012 and forgot who her sons were in late 2013. The wonderful woman who raised us had died many years ago to that terrible humanity stealing disease. I wouldn't be sure what to say in an obituary for FAL because she rarely told us about her life with FAL and when she did, I was too young to remember it. We did find FAL photos of both EP and Shirlee and a lot of FAL pins, uniforms, etc. (Those were going to be donated to the Airlines Museum in Kansas City.) Thank you for remembering our wonderful mother who meant the world to us and passed in a bad way. John Lietz Hi John, THANK YOU so much for the wonderful photo of your mother. I have added it to her memorial webpage. She and EP were terrific people and will always remain part of the Frontier Family. I'm glad to hear a museum will get their memorabilia. -Jake Lamkins (10/3/17)
