Ceil Ponder and Kathy Benoist organized it. Here's the names of the attendees. Gary and Pat Arnold, Jerry Baltz, Ruth Beck, Kathy and Tony Benoist, Glen and Kathy Davis, Sharon and Denny Diekmann, Steve Gartner, Jim and Ginny Hargis, Irvin Moody, Russ Nauert, John Perry, Ceil and Bob Ponder, Bob Neudeck and Jane Rodgers-Neudeck, Carol Ruffino, Roy and Betty Schreder, Carl Simpson, Don Sorenson, Chuck Tisckos, Sam Warriner and Bob Warren. I hope I haven't left out anybody. The greatest travel was Carol Ruffino from Florida, John Peery and Sam Warriner from DFW. -Chuck Tisckos (9/29/02) Sam phoned 5/1/04 for help joining the FL Club. We chatted awhile. He started with CN in 1966 and was with FL til the end. Now with DFWAA as a ground mechanic. He saw one of FL's 580s recently at DFW. Talked to one of the crew who said an ex FL FA worked on the crew. 580 belongs to Teledyne(?) and is used to test equipment. They said it was the 2nd CV580 converted by FL. Lawrence Weeks had given him a box of CN Skywriters - maybe 50 of them. He will make copies for me. -Jake Lamkins (5/1/04) Sam phoned and told me there was a photo of Bill Medcalf in the Sep 1964 Skywriter. He had seen my request for info on Bill who just died. I had the issue and scanned it for Bill's webpage. Sam said he would package up his Skywriters and send them to me. Make copies and return to him. He also wanted to gift Kirby Rankin and another FLriend. He was friends with Bill and worked on his vehicles a lot. He told the story of working on Bill's truck engine once and accidentally leaving an oil cloth in the oil pan. When Bill found the mistake, he confessed to Bill who responded, "Don't worry about it, some of us land at the wrong airport too." Sam said Bill's lung problems came from his putting some chemicals on his pond at his place near Ft. Worth. He said Bill had a really nice place with a nature trail. -Jake Lamkins (4/20/06) Hi Sam, Got the box of newsletters yesterday. Fabulous stuff! Thanks so much. I'm adding 3 years to your FL NEWS subscription as a small token of appreciation. I'll email you when I get finished & return them. -Jake Lamkins (Sam sent a box of CN newsletters for me to copy and return.) (5/13/06) Jake Glad you are getting some good out of them. Have to pass thanks to Lawrence Weeks who gave them to me. Will try to get some idea if we are having a St.Louis reunion and let you know. -Sam Warriner (5/21/06) Just to make sure there is no confusion my last name has two r"s instead of two n"s.the reason I am correcting you is there were fal pilots in denver whose names are spelled Warinner.Didnt want the folks to get it crossed up.Years ago I was in West Yellowstone and was told my brother had been in a light plane accident and was Killed. It turns out Denver was looking for his FAL pilot brother and the names are so close they thought it was me.I have felt bad about that all these years. Just got home from the STL reunion and had a great time .We had a good turnout and will send more info later. Keep up the good work. -Sam Warriner (8/28/06) Thanks for the note, Sam. I must have been having a "senior" moment. I have it spelled correctly in all my records. I have a dozen or some Skywriters left to scan and then I'll be mailing them back to you. Thanks for your patience. Jake (8/27/06) Hello Sam, Thank you so much for letting me use the newsletters and being so patient while I photocopied and scanned them. They are GREAT stuff and brought back many, many memories. -Jake Lamkins (10/23/06) (I mailed them back to him 10/26/06) Note to Jake with Xmas card: Had our Central/Frontier mechanic’s get-together Saturday, October 25th at the Beacon Cafe 0n Hicks Field in north Fort Worth. He wanted Bill Guthrie's phone number. -Jake Lamkins (3/8/15) I have received word that my older cousin, Sammy Warriner, has passed away due to a brain aneurysm. Sam was almost like that big brother I never really had because he lived with us for a while when I was around 10 or 11 years old and he was an 18 year-old kid embarking on his first life journey of having his first job away from his own family. My dad helped him get hired at Central Airlines and helped him get on his feet until he could get his own place, etc. He and I shared my bedroom in those days. He was always loads of fun to be with, and if you've ever seen me mention someone I could hum the first two or three notes of a song to and he would have it on his mind and singing it for the rest of the day...that was Sammy. He was the coolest to me when he was staying with us. He bought a brand new 1967 Ford Mustang shortly after getting hired, and I LOVED that car. It was his first new car and I don't know that he ever got rid of it because he kept it for a very long time. I will miss Sammy badly. My sincerest condolences to Sam's family. I love you all. RIP, Sam, and Godspeed. -Larry Curtis (3/8/15) I don't even know where to start. When I met him he was about 8 months old. I had him on my mind for some reason the last few days and intended to call him but at this time I couldn't spare the 2 hours that was usually was needed for one of our conversations. He also lived with us for a while in Omaha, which is why all my kids adored him so , Larry, I know what you mean. He was like another Son, another little brother, and one of the best friends I ever had. I could literally write a book. We will all miss him. -Bill Guthrie (3/8/15) That really makes me sad - he was working in the Phoenix station for awhile and we all loved him dearly - what a nice man he was!! -Cyndy Camomile (3/8/15) So sorry to hear of his passing. May he Rest In Peace. -Ginger Treptow (3/8/15) Knew Sam very well, we shared "a few" beers over the years and were planning to get together this summer. RIP buddy !!! You will be missed my many! -Darvin Holcomb (3/8/15) I remember Sam from when he worked ground maintenance at STL. He was a fine mechanic and good all around person. All the agents liked Sam. He would do anything to help you. RIP Sam Warriner. -Chuck Tisckos (3/8/15) Sam Warriner Just got word on Sam Warriner's funeral. It will be at Biggers Chapel 6100 Azle Ave. Lake Worth at 1:00 pm. On Thursday 3/12 With Graveside service in Big Lake Tx at 1:00 on Fri 3/13 -Bill Guthrie (3/9/15) I worked with Sam at Central Airlines over at GSW in Fort Worth in 1967. So sad. What a great guy! Miss you, Sam! -Gary Jones (3/11/15) As noted above, Sam has been very helpful to me over the years and I will miss his cheerful contacts about our airline and the folks we knew. Let this memorial I have built be a small token of appreciation to him. -Jake Lamkins (3/16/15) FLacebook - FL Club GSW DAL DFW DEN PHX STL ground mechanic Sam Warriner's memorial webpage is posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Sam_Warriner.html -Jake Lamkins (3/16/15) To Larry Curtis, One more " Sammy story " I just had to share with you. When your Mom passed away, Sonja was not able to make the trip and didn't want me to go alone. I called Sam and we decided to go together. I picked him up, early morning, in a Burger King parking lot in Ft. Worth, just south of I-20. We made it to Cold Spring, attended the service, visited with family and drove back to Ft. Worth. I dropped him off at Burger King, about 10:30 that night. When I pulled onto I-20 headed back to Eastland, it felt very strange then I realized it was silence. There was not one minute of the entire trip that one of us was not talking. We could swap stories for days I think. I miss him. -Bill Guthrie (3/18/15)
