SAM TURNER 1949 - 1966? PILOT ACF FTW GSW Turner, Sam (need info) -FARPA newsletter dated July 2006 Item in the April 1960 CN Skywriter reports: "Samuel D. Turner, Jr., returned to duty after a six-year absence due to illness, to the position of captain. Could not find him on the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list Can not pin him down in the SSDI -Jake Lamkins (7/20/06) Article in the Sep 1962 CN Skywriter notes he was original CN employee in 1949. -Jake Lamkins (7/29/06) Turner is not on the FL/CN integrated seniority list dated 10/28/67. His seniority date would have been about Aug 1949 since his 15th anniversary is noted in the Sep 1964 CN Skywriter article. -Jake Lamkins (7/24/09) Email to CN pilots: Hello fellows, I'm trying to get info on Sam for his memorial webpage at the FL website. I have very little - not even a date of death. I'm hoping yall can help out. I have three CN Skywriter articles that mention him. One notes he was an original CN employee and had 15 years in 1964. Another one from 1960 says he returned to duty as a captain after 6 months sick leave. However, he is not on the Oct 1967 merged CN/FL pilot seniority list. Had he passed away before then or left the company? Any info you have would be appreciated. -Jake Lamkins (7/24/09) Grayson County TXGenWeb Fairview Cemetery aka- Maple Grove Cemetery Denison, Texas TURNER SAM D J Born JAN 22,1915 Died AUG 20,1974 BORN DENISON, GRAYSON COUNTY, TEXAS. He was from the Sherman/Dennison area and had a flight school there at the old Military airport. He had a terrible case of Shingles and was marked with facial blotches. Was a typical Tex. farm boy, and wanta be Cowboy. Just gradually quit flying. I was doing the flying on one trip, and had an engine faliure and I asked Sam if he wanted to take the Airplane and he he smiled and said "You broke it, you fix it". Great Guy, but that is about all I can remember. -Bill Blackmon (7/25/09) Could not find anything else on Sam in the 1964-66 CN Skywriters. The April 1960 article notes a six year absence due to illness. A Sep 1964 article lists his 15th anniversary. He may have taken a medical retirement by the CN/FL merger in 1967 since he's not on that pilot seniority list.. -Jake Lamkins (7/25/09)
