ROY MARTIN 1962 - 1986 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, GROUND MECHANIC GSW DAL STL SMF I read in your last publication that Shorty Maxwell died in 99' at the age of 81 in PHX. Larry Miley owned a John Deere Dealership in Kansas and was killed in a forklift accident this year. John Perry is retired from AA in DFW. Roy Martin, also an automotive mechanic, is retired from CO in HOU. I understand that Wayne Stilwell is living around PHX. Lynn Kentch is retired and living in Casa Grande, AZ. Roy was a genuine character and great guy. Dont think he ever turned down anyone needing help with anything. -Sam Warriner (9/1/13) Roy is R. W. Martin and his hire date is Jan 1962. He was in ground mtc when I returned to work after the strike fiasco in sept 64. He was in St. Louis line maintenance in 76 according to the 76 seniority list. Don't know where he was in 86. But he was living somewhere in Washington state when he passed away. Sam was planning a trip up there but didn't make it. Sam is working on an obituary. Hope that helps. -Bill Guthrie (9/2/13) I first met Roy in St. Louis 1979. He was a very funny guy, always making names for the equipment he was working on, and yelling at it as if it were human. When he and Thelma lived in Magnolia, TX, I drove down a couple of times from Dallas to visit with them. We also had many phone calls back and forth. Roy was a special person, and will be greatly missed. -Sam Warriner (9/4/13) Roy will be missed by all of the guys that he worked with at Frontier Airlines in St Louis Mo . -Robert Matlock (9/4/13) I was saddened to see this obituary. Roy Martin was a very patient man. He was our ground mechanic at SMF in the 1984-85 period. He shared a lot of his wisdom with me and I was always thankful to have known him. -Mike Barney (9/5/13) FLacebook - FL Club: STL SMF ground mechanic Roy Martin's memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Roy_Martin.html -Jake Lamkins (9/10/13) One bitterly cold night, when I worked in STL, Roy drove 40 miles out in the country to help me get my car started so I could get to work. I would see him when he came to SNA to work on our ground equipment. His favorite fix for the diesel power units was what he called "The chinese water torture." -Bob Baxter (9/10/13) Once in the middle sixties a mechanic drove a small tug into the automotive shop, near the end of a particularly hectic day. He yelled at Roy that he couldn't turn off the head lights and cycled the switch several times to make his point. Roy calmly picked up a small ball-peen hammer.... Then said "they're out now!" He was really an all around good guy. We'll miss him. -Bill Guthrie (9/10/13) I knew Roy in Dallas, St Louis, and I think DEN. What a good guy!!! -Shirley Shackelford (9/16/13) I remember Roy from STL where he did ground maintenance. Roy was great and all the agents liked him as well. I remember he had an accident with a chain saw one time and his wife iced the missing fingers and rushed him to the hospital in Troy, MO. They successfully re attached them and he regained use of them in about 6 months. RIP Roy! -Chuck Tisckos (9/17/13)
