RICK MCCOY 1959 - 1984 PILOT DEN Just got word that Capt. Rick McCoy passed away yesterday at his home in Belgrade, MT. His wife Valerie was with him. There will be no funeral but possibly a memorial service later in the summer. -Lis Lane (3/15/14) FLacebook - FL Club Just got word pilot Rick McCoy flew west yesterday in Belgrade, MT. -Jake Lamkins (3/15/14) My sister Jane is married to his son Doug. Jane just called. There isn't any funeral or memorial planned right now but there will be a memorial at a future date. He always had a place for me in the jump seat on SLC JAC trips. I always thought highly of him. -Ron Abfalter (3/15/14) Sorry to hear this. In the summer of 1967, Rick was a new 580 captain and I was pretty new as a F/O. His first solo captain flight was a test hop. ... and ignominious start at that given it took several hours before we actually flew. He later shared my place in SLC and we flew often together. My last flight at good ol' FAL was on the MD-80 from DEN to CHI. Rick's son Bob was the F/O. Thanks to Bob we actually made it to Chicago. That MD-80 flight was Dick Fischel's. He offered up his seat since I wasn't getting much flying with the MEC stuff. Little did either of us know that the dream was about to come to a rather abrupt halt! DAMN! I just spoke with Rick's son, Bob. He said his Dad had a massive stroke and didn't come out of it. Prolly best to wait a few days to call Val at their place in Belgrade, MT. BTW: I knew Rick's Dad, Continental Captain Richard M. McCoy. Quite an aviation family! -Billy Walker (3/15/14) Bless your heart, Rick..TY for flying us safely for all my 20 years. -Rosemary Wirth VanEpps (3/16/14) Sorry to hear that, prayers for the family -Jaunice Gray-Gonzaales (3/16/14) Really liked Rick, great guy. Last time I saw him was Ace's memorial. -Bonnie Dahl (3/16/14) FAL MCCOY, JAMES R ALPA# 0199190 DOB 11/19/25 DOH 1959 RET 04/01/84 per the FL/ALPA Roster. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. — -Darrell Robson (Billings, MT) (3/18/14) Photo of Rick in 1964 reprinted with permission from the book FROM THE COCKPIT TO THE GALLEY by Bonnie C.
