RAY VAN CAMP 1966 - 1986 STATION AGENT JLN MKC STL FSM LIT LEX Jake, I moved a couple of years ago but still in the Lexington area. I now work for Elkhorn Baptist Association in Lexington. We are an association of 87 Baptist churches in this area. I work with guys that are starting new churches and help existing churches with program improvements, etc. We are not near retirement yet although I wish I could. Just a short update. Barb discovered she had breast cancer in Sep. 2002, had surgery, chemo, radiation and is now cancer free and doing well. She still works full time for an HMO and loves her job. I had emergency back surgery last June (2003) and will have to have back surgery again, probably this fall. The first time was 6 weeks recovery, this time it will be 12 weeks. Other than that we are fine, outside of getting old. My two daughters are now gone. Suzanne is married and lives in Louisville. She works day care, he at a bank. Jennifer is still single and lives in Atlanta where she attends seminary and is a youth minister in a church there. I really appreciate your sending out info to me on occasion. I'll try to remember to send you some money to help with postage (memory is going, too.) Let me know when the pignic is this year. If it is in September I might be able to make it. If not tell all we said Hey. -Ray Van Camp (6/28/04) R B VAN CAMP JR Station agent seniority date of 10/4/66, emp# 08961, on the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. -Jake (6/13/08) Hey Jake, I would be interested in joining the Frontier club.. Thanks -Ray Van Camp (8/18/08) FLacebook: Ray Van Camp It is official - today is the first day of my retirement. It is a good day!!! No Worries!! (12/1/10) FLacebook I only had a few Frontier items and they have all been given away. Once in a while I open an old box and find such treasures. I was a station agent in JLN, MKC, when the airport was down by the river, STL, FSM, LIT and LEX. 1966 - 1984 then furloughed until we shut down. The FAL days bring back memories, almost all good except those final couple of years. -Ray Van Camp (4/8/21) Facebook Many of you have been wondering about my health, some unaware of my problems. I had back surgery in 2002 and again in 2003. Early this year I started having some lingering back pain that increased with time. I tolerated it until mid June when the pain increased exponentially (I now require a cane). After countless delays by Doctors I finally got a definitive answer about the origin of the pain and solution is yet another back surgery. I am currently awaiting tests before I can have the surgery (stress test) and prayerfully the surgery will be late this month or early in September. Please pray for me and for Barbara who has been super great. We live in the country, have a very big yard and two gardens. She is taking care of everything since I am unable to do anything. I truly do not know what I would do without her. Again thanks for your prayers!!!?? -Ray Van Camp (8/14/22) R B VAN CAMP JR Emp# 08961, LEX OO Address shown as Bald Knob, Arkansas Per the Nov 1984 employees roster. For those of you who may not know his story, Ray was diagnosed with cutaneous t-cell lymphoma a little over two years ago. He had been treated for psoriasis for three years prior but no medication seemed to be clearing it up, so after a second biopsy, he was diagnosed with this rare form of blood cancer where the t-cells attack the skin. This is an incurable form of cancer, but one that can be treatable with regular infusions and many people live with this for years. No one likes to hear a cancer diagnosis, but we were hopeful this would be manageable. Over that time, he tried four different types of chemo and/or immunotherapy infusions and was about to start a fifth because none of them had been successful in managing the cancer, in fact it had gotten worse. A couple of weeks ago the pain had become unbearable and on Saturday, August 30th, Barb took him to the ER in Searcy, AR. His condition has continued to decline since then and we are now starting inpatient hospice care in the hospital. We are trying to manage his pain and keep him as comfortable as possible. He is in so much pain, but has continued to maintain his sense of humor and way of putting people at ease in spite of it. We'll be using this site to update our community on his condition, so please feel free to leave comments here and we'll make sure he gets them. It's difficult to reach out to all of you individually with everything going on, but we want yo Suz was able to drive down on September 1st to help mom manage everything and I flew in today from Columbus. Dad said today that he's glad we're all here too. As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time and there are lots of hard decisions having to be made. Things can change so quickly. We would really appreciate prayers of comfort and peace, especially for dad, but also for us. -Jen Van Camp (9/9/25) Hi friends, we wanted to update you on the last couple of days. Dad has remained pretty stable today after some adjustments to pain meds and has slept pretty peacefully. We are assessing and trying to decide what the best course of action is in consult with the hospice staff and nurses on a daily basis to try to keep him as comfortable and pain free as we can. He's not able to communicate much with us because of the pain meds, but if he is not in pain, that is the most important thing even if it's difficult for us. We just want him to know we are there with him and that he is surrounded by love. Mom wanted to share a couple of funny stories from earlier in the week in his interactions with the nursing staff. One nurse got down close to him and asked him "What do you think?" in a strong southern drawl and he responded with "I think...I know a little song, and it's not very long, toodle-loop, toodle-loop, now it's all gone." That is such a dad thing to do. Another one is when a nurse said to him, "Tell me what you want." he answered, and she said, "Is that what you really really want?" and he proceeded to say "tell me what you want, what you really really want" from the famous Spice Girls song. It caught the nurse off guard but Mom and Suz were cracking up because Dad has been doing that kind of thing our whole lives- everything makes him think of a song. This is a hard time to live in this time of transition and the not-knowing is painful. I (Jen) was supposed to fly back to Columbus tomorrow but have decided to stay until next weekend because I know I won't regret spending as much time with him as possible. Thank you for your continued prayers and support for our family. We are truly grateful. -Jen Van Camp (9/13/25) I don't even really know what to say right now. My dad breathed his last breath early this morning and my mom, sister, and I were all with him. We are so sad and also know he is finally at peace. -Jen Van Camp (9/15/25) This is really difficult to write, but Dad passed away early this morning. Mom, Suz, and I were all with him in the room and it was quiet and peaceful. He had been sleeping the last couple of days and not in any pain before he took his last breath. He told Barb last week that he just wanted to go home to Heaven and amidst our grief we have peace knowing he is no longer suffering or in pain. We love him dearly and I know y'all do too. We'll update with details about services later this week. -Jen Van Camp (9/15/25) Email to FYV FSM FLight West Ray Van Camp flew west a few days ago. https://www.facebook.com/ray.vancamp -Jake Lamkins (9/19/25) FLacebook FLIGHT WEST POSTED RAY VAN CAMP 1966 - 1986 STATION AGENT JLN MKC STL FSM LIT LEX http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Ray_Van_Camp.html Post your remembrances of him. -Jake Lamkins (9/30/25) Posted at Ray's Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/ray.vancamp.
