PAUL CAREY 1959 - 1986 PILOT GSW DAL DFW DEN Subject: Paul Carey Paul's nephew Tim Crow worked at ICT and thusly we all fondly called Paul "Uncle Paul" when he flew through or was checking in for the jump seat to DEN. Seems like he went with CO kicking & fighting to either IAH or CLE Tim went with SATO and now the last I heard is in OMA or LNK with the aftermath TA company that took over the SATO contract at McConnell AFB in east ICT. Tim took me over to the mentioned homestead right after the house was moved one afternoon, and by-golly, that project would have given Bob Villa gray hair, oops he already has gray hair. I am so happy to know that Uncle Paul's home was completed, I truly was thinking about that the other day, amazing. -Dennis Casadoro (6/30/04) I have an Uncle Paul Carey who flew for Frontier for 30+ years and then was picked up by CO for a few years until he retired. I will update him about this site and the others you mentioned. These pictures really take me back to a great time with a great airline. Thank you. -Tim Crow (12/29/10) J P CAREY Pilot seniority date of 4/2/59 on the 9/1/86 FL/ALPA Seniority List -Jake Lamkins (12/29/10) I went to ICT today to attend my cousins funeral. Driving out of ICT I placed a call to Paul Carey as I always do when I go home. Both phones were disconnected and with a bad taste in my mouth. I did a search on the internet and sure enough, John Paul Carey died on May 20th, 2020. The obituary below did not mention a cause of death. Don't know why this did not get out earlier. We have lost a really fine man, pilot and friend. https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/kansas/obituary.aspx?n=john-paul-carey&pid=196309552&fhid=4889 -Ron Gallop (12/4/20) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Paul Carey PAUL CAREY 1959 - 1986 PILOT DEN https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/kansas/obituary.aspx?n=john-paul-carey&pid=196309552&fhid=4889 -Jake Lamkins (12/5/20) Connie Mcalister What a nice man. Always enjoyed talking to Paul. I was from Kansas. One day at Stapleton, Paul was going to our Company Store at the hanger to get a flight attendant suitcase for his Daughter, he brought one back to me. I still have it. Just saw it the other day and it brought back memories of Paul. So sad to hear of his passing. Thoughts and prayers for his Family. Patty Giordano Benton I flew with Paul a lot. RIP Captain Carey Dennis Casadoro His nephew worked at ICT along with me, we fondly always called him “Uncle Paul”. Post your remembrances. -Jake Lamkins (12/8/20) Barb Womack I sure respected and admired him both as an aviator and a person. Billy Walker The June 2004 article about Paul & Helen was especially delightful. I never had the opportunity to fly with Paul, but got to know him via crew-room banter and some shared layovers. He might’a won the contest if there ever was a “Nice Guy Contest!” Yup, he was such an absolute pleasure to be around. (12/8/20) Dennis Casadoro This not being a funny story but a true story. This particular morning in Wichita was as foggy as ABQ. The Morning flight came out of someplace east Perhaps TUL or LIT. Nobody was landing and BN, FL, were in the pattern for 19R. Capt called and said one more try and he was going to proceed to DEN. We could hear him but not see him, and off to Denver he went. About 5 minutes later came the BN 727 taxing to the gate. We had some splaining to to do. Well, Uncle Paul (waiting for the jump) told us in OPS that BN had the advantage following FL in. The exhaust and then pouring the thrust to his missed approach warmed up the atmosphere just enough to make a hole for BN to see the runway and allowed him to land. That story was never told at the gate, but it was the technical story being told in OPS. Thank you John Paul Carey for your friendship to the staff in ICT. I am guessing you ran over to CO and caught a ride with them to DEN as they had an originator. (8/18/21)
