Pat Kern (9/25/06) Subject: Frontier Club - MOJO's Pictures of the DEN ramp Thanks MoJo, those pictures brought back great memories. I even saw you had a picture of me. (#140) although the name was wrong. Not Pat Brady but Pat Kern. O'well time can do that y'all know. I look at these guys and cannot tremember their names. Some are working here in Houston for Continental other went to Piedmount then US Air. American West and some even wewnt to American or United. Some have even come back to the New Frontier out at DIA. But we all can be proud of our time with FAL!!! -Pat Kern (4/7/07) Hi Pat, Thanks for the correction which I've take care of. -Jake Lamkins (4/8/07) Your welcome!. My wife and I are going thru all the pictures of FAL family and trying to remember everyones names. Mojo asked for a couple of technicians names and we are going hru our pictures to see if we can put names with faces. Boy did those pictires bring back memories. Tell her thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! -Pat Kern (4/8/07) Hey Pat, I forwarded your email to Mojo. By the way, what does a GSE technician do? Was DEN the only place you were assigned at Frontier? -Jake Lamkins (4/8/07) Jake: GSE technicians repairs, fabricated or builds anything that is not an aircraft. All the tug, pushbacks, beltloaders, baggage carts, tow bars, golf carts, TC (passenger service vehicles for the handicapped on the concourse, deicers, wash truck, lavatory truck and potable water truck. Vans, Pickups and JetMates buses and anything else they could come up with. When I first started with FAL I was a Maintenance scheduler in DEN,(second floor hanger 5) then to GJT as a station agent, back to DEN as a cleaner, lead cleaner, Supervisor of Cleaning under John Salas and R.J. Burt. Did some time in Stores and finally ended up in GSE maintenance as a technician / mechanic. Until the last day we operated. Since then I have worked on aircraft for Continental (paint fiberglass, flap and trim / sheet metal shop and composite, Plus was the Environmental Coordinator for DEN base maintenance) When Continental shut down it's maintenance shops in 94 I went to the New Frontier as Manager of GSE and Environmental Compliance, until a certain VP and I did not see eye to eye. From there to Maverick Airways as Safety and Environmental Compliance Director. When Maverick shut it's doors I did some subcontracting and then went back to Continental in Houston as a GSE Technician. 39 years of airline experience. Jan 1968 until the present. Hope this answers your question. -Pat Kern (4/8/07) I remember Aug 24 1986, what a SATURDAY! I started with Frontier back in Jan 1968 working with the guys in maintenance control. Learned how to route aircraft for maintenance checks, even spent some time as a Station Agent in GJT, Then a cleaner, stock clerk and finally ended up in Ground Maintenance (GSE) DEN from 1977 till the end. Remember someone (Connie) driving around about 9:00 PM with a pair of big men's shorts hanging from a pole on a tug that Saturday night. And the kitchen calling us earlier and offered us food that was to be placed on the international/ Mexico evening flights. At least most of us eat good that night. Even had a chance to bring some to Dispatch and other groups. We knew something was happening but not until 10:00 PM were we told. Finally Everett Thomas called and explained the situation. Told us that he would be coming out to lock up. This gave some of us time to move our tool boxes off the property. Bankruptcy court locked them up and it took the others almost 8 weeks to get theirs. Everyone was hoping for a restart. But that was not to be. For me I did unemployment for a while then went to Trans Colorado Airways out of the springs, From there to Continental as a painter, trim mechanic, flap mechanic, Environmental Coordinator until the closing of the base maintenance in 95. Then helped start the New Frontier and worked there with Ed Quisenberry, Bill Durlan, and the other FAL /CAL mechanics. Then on to Maverick Airways until it shut down. Drove truck and finally accepted recall back to Continental in Houston as a GSE technician. Been in Houston since 1997. Equipment changes now electric, but the industry has made larger changes. But the basic still stay the same. You can still tell and old FAL ramp agent / aircraft or GSE technicians, pilot or Flight attendant. We still have the pride that shows thru from working at the best airline "Frontier". Where does the time go, now I am close to retirement age, and wonder was it worth it? Yep it's been a career that has had it's ups and downs but what a career it's been. May God bless y'all FAL children -Pat Kern (8/25/08) FLacebook: Seems I remember you on the flight lines, running bags. While I was working on your tug over at gate D6. Or was it when DTW when the beltloader got hid under the end of the concourse off the lake by some UAL employees.Of course it was in the dead of winter. Frozen solid. Even the gas was frozen. Took four days to thaw out under the heaters in air freight. Any way, you are right those were the days of a career not just a job. When I started in 1968 every January it was riff. First time for 3 months. next year it was two months third year a month. Then never saw a riff again. Miss the days of Frontier, mostly the people. If you get a chance look thru MoJo's pictures. Will really bring back memories.. -Pat Kern (4/11/12) Jake, Just received this from Pat Kern. He was a mechanic in Denver. After the Bankruptcy, went to Continental in Houston. I was very sorry to hear this about his wife. -Ed Schroeder (12/29/14) Subj: Flying West This morning my wife of 47 + years passed on unto the arm of her Lord and Savior. She had been off and on sick for some time. We took her to the hospital to help her recover. After I left for the night, kissed her told her I loved her. By the time I got home the nurse call me and asked me to come back. She had waited until I was gone before she died. As of right now I have no idea what to do or when to do it. So be patient with me and I will advise you. -Pat Kern (12/29/14) Pat, I'm really sorry to hear about your loss. The older we get, the more loved ones we must say goodbye to. May your good memories soothe your loss. With condolences, -Jake Lamkins (1/2/15) Re: Sandy Thanks Jake. Yep, you'r right. This year I have seen countless Frontier family and heard about their spouses who Fly West. Before long there will be just a handful of us Frontier family members remaining. That is sad! Thanks for the words of wisdom.
