OTIS LYTLE 1957 - 1984? STATION AGENT BVO DAL JLN SGF I can tell you a story from JLN. A Psgr was banging on the counter saying my bag is still on that airplane.. so good old Ed Ciuskowski who had already been told that is all the JLN stuff we could find would not take anyone's word for it decided to take matters in his on hand. So while Otis Lytle was putting up the stairs on the 737 to ICT Ed goes out and climbs into the cargo bin to see for his self. Otis proceeds to plug in the head set and crank up the first engine. The capt says HEY Otis we have a cargo door light..... with engine running Otis un plugs goes back shuts the cargo door----and the rest is history.. ON the way out to T/off the flight atten called the Capt..saying there is a big thumping sound back here only to have them say the tires were hot (it seems like ol ED was banging on the cargo ceiling but no one would help) when we landed and it was quite cold in JLN and the tires had a flat spot on them by now and they were thumping on the ground. SO OFF to ICT it was. Arrival in ICT they open the cargo bin only to find dear ol ED.. all tied up in the Cargo net and holding on for dear life... IN THE mean time the PSGR was really up set at the JLN TC because no one was helping him and his bag was still missing..and we could not find ED..who was supposed to come right back and help him. -Jerry Pickering (1/29/05) Does anyone know what happened to Otis M. Lytle? Thought U might like to know this if u didnt already. We were both at JLN untill they closed. Oddly enough, the last week in JLN we had several full 737s. So there was not enough psgrs to sustain JLN???. -Jerry Pickering (10/11/07) Otis M. Lytle MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Lt. Col. Otis M. I remember Otis well. Can you get the full obit from the paper for me? Any old JLN pix of Otis? -Jake Lamkins (10/11/07) The Globe only had what we sent you. Last sev yrs he had bn in a military/rest home at Mt Vernon and in failing health. Otis had no family left - all in all was kind of a sad thing. Some where some time will see if can find ny old FAL stuff however the last years of my work was with EA BN HP and US and was mostly a commute. SO a lot of stuff has gotten buried. As you can tell by his rank he was a big military person and enjoyed it very well also. Will keep checking - was not in the SGF paper will see if can find a MT Vernon or Sarcoxie paper. -Jerry Pickering (10/11/07) Posted at the FL Club: My records show that Otis started as a station agent 11/18/57. He was on the 7/1/84 seniority list but not the 1/1/86 one. He worked at BVO DAL JLN SGF during his career and was in the Army Reserve many years. Anyone with more info, including a full obituary or photo, please post it. -Jake Lamkins (10/11/07) That is sad news. I worked with Otis in JLN 1979-1982. The other old timers there at the time referred to him as "The Colonel" because of his rank of Lt. Col in the Army Reserves. As I was the weight and balance instructor there in JLN at the time, Otis and I had frequent conversations about his quality control. He was also known to be a bit tight with a buck, but he had a heart of gold and would pitch in and help whenever needed. He will be missed. -Steve Burger, FL 1977-1986, RKS-JLN-FSD (10/11/07) Steve, you are right, Otis and his writing was such that you had to be a private eye detective with magnifying glass just to try to read the scribbles. Yes, he would do anything in the world to help you out. -Jerry Pckering (10/11/07) Thanks for the note on Otis. I could never get in touch. I am a first cousin once removed of Otis Lytle, Jr. I have not seen seen him in 30+ years and had Google searched several times without success. Your dialog between you, Jerry Pickering, and others has provided great information, stories and confirmation of his passing. I have information that his wife, Vera Mae, died in 1985. Do you know if he remarried? Again, Thank you. -Paul Benner (7/22/11) I'm glad you enjoyed Otis' webpage. I don't think Otis re-married since he's buried with Vera Mae who died in 1985. I just found his gravestone at Find-A-Grave.com and have attached it. I'll be posting it on his webpage. Email me anything you would like posted on Otis' webpage. -Jake Lamkins (7/23/11)
