Memorial Service Thursday, 12PM at Highland Mortuary Chapel. -Denver Newspaper Agency on 2/25/2007. February 26, 2007 We are so sorry to hear of Orval's passing. ABC Hearing Solutions Sandra Brungardt (Thornton, CO) -Online guestbook I was sorry to hear about the death of Orval Bowen. I knew Orval during my 13 plus years with FAL, he was a great person. Orval was very good at scheduling and what ever he did while with Frontier. We had some good times during and after sales meetings as Orval was usually there for input about flight schedule changes. I remember saying to him many times, hey Orval how is your brother Wilbur? Orval would just grin and then try something later on to get even. We will miss his smiling face and great attitude. -Herb Schmidt. (4/9/07) Orv and I worked together in '63 when he joined me in Schedules. Those were busy times as we were swapping a CV-340 for a CV-580 on a 6 to 7 week interval. Plus, we were constantly "fine tuning" the schedule to meet the CAB "Departures/Station" formula which assured us an optimum mail rate. He was a very dedicated guy which enabled us to meet our various deadlines (CAB, P.O., OAG, Timetables, Meetings, etc.). The work was quite tedious as was pre-automation. And then there were the schedule meetings/sessions with Dymond. These sometimes ran 6 to 8 hours (the record was 12). Lew's forte was Operations and he really enjoyed ramroding these sessions. He could be quite tough at times but it was a great learning experience. Dymond was the best of them all having contributing more to the progress of the airline than any other president. Orv took over the department in '65 when I was assigned to head up the Res. computer project. He left Frontier a few years later to run Schedules for TI in Houston. When he returned to Frontier he worked with Tom Lamb in Schedules and Tariffs and subsequently became Director of Schedules. I last saw Orv 5 or 6 years ago when Tom and I attended Orv's wife's funeral. Everyone liked Orv and I especially have fond memories of our times in Schedules. -Bill Monday (5/28/07) I started my FAL career as a Telephone Rreservationist in the "Consolidated Reservations Office located on the 2nd floor of Hanger 5 of ""Denver's" Stapleton International Airport. I was in this office for 13 months before transferring to Station Operations As a "Green as Grass" new hire, It was my wonderful good fortune to find myself more frequently working under the supervision of Orval Bowen a Shift Supervisor in this Department. Orval exhibited marvelous supervisory skills in keeping his shift personnel (which included more "Teeny Boppers" than mature adults ) motivated to work smoothly, effectively and efficiently in one of the most critical & important of customer service activities . I found Orval to be an excellent instructor and a gifted & talented leader who very effectively lead by patience, understanding and example instead of dogmatic & arbitrary directives. I regarded Orval to be a "Godsend" as my Supervisor and a grand fellow to work for. Outside of the office, he became my first real personal friend in Denver and our much appreciated friendship continued for my entire Frontier career. Both Orval & myself went our separate ways in a variety of different activities within Frontier Airlines. Orval found himself superintending a host of critically important but unheralded Company administrative activities. Orval always discharged these activities as a true consummate professional. Orval always conducted himself as a gentleman with a warm and gracious personality and a welcome sense of humor. Orval Bowen was indeed an unsung, but major player in making Frontier Airlines the success that it was !! -Bob Pearson (9/5/07) O. E.
