NELLIE WOOD SCHNEIDER 1952 - 1970 / 1974 - 1986 TELETYPE OPERATOR, COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR DEN After Billie Elliott subscribed me to your FRONTIER NEWS I have really enjoyed reading about all of our Frontier "family" of friends though sadly many have "gone west". It truly was a great group of people who made Frontier Airlines what it was & still is. I started out at FL in 1952 as a teletype operator (DENCC) sending many flight plans, weather reports, LRs, PRs, & TRs. Then I continued through a torn tape switching system sending reports cross circuit. That was top technology in those days. What a contrast to our 2002 internet network. Unfortunately I've become computer illiterate - hence no e-mail address. The stories in FRONTIER NEWS bring back many special memories of those good "old days". Enclosed is a check to be applied for another year as well as a subscription for another Frontier family member, Mary Lou Fillmore, who was a PBX operator many years at FL. You do a tremendous job gleaning the responses from the widespread Frontier family. Thank you for publishing such a paper to bind us together. I worked there from 1952 to 1970 & then took four years off after my second daughter was born. Then a second tour of duty, 1974-1986, in DEN in communications, fuel procurement and administration. -Nellie Schneider Denver, CO (8/9/02) I enjoy receiving my "Frontier News" each issue even though sadly so many more FL family friends have "Gone West". However, your efforts to keep this FL chain of news binds us closer. No one can ever rob us of those special people we worked with all those years. Keep up the good work. -Nellie Schneider (8/2/03) Enclosed is a check for $25 to cover my renewal of the Frontier News as well as a new subscription for another Ex. FAL employee Christy Dinsman Chris' name at that time was Chris Horn and she served as an auditor but I don't know her dates of service. We had a chance meeting in AZ in April. She was interested in receiving FAL news. Will appreciate your adding her to your list. Thanks for your FAL News efforts. Good job! -Nellie Schneider FAL DENXZ & DENCC 1952-1972 & 1974-1986 (6/28/07) Letter with subscription: Hi Jake, Enclosed is $15 for another year of Frontier News for myself and sadly to advise you of another FAL person "Gone West". Dorothy (Dottie) Relaford passed away Oct 11, 2008 in Louisville, CO after a several year bout with cancer. She worked in pilot crew scheduling. Don't know her FAL start date but know she was there many years and worked for the State of Colorado for 20 years after #1 FAL demise in Aug 1986. She was 63 and services were held Oct 18, 2008 at Highland Chapel, 10201 N. Grant St., Thornton, CO. I've amended my amount to $15 - $10 for subscription & $5 as a contribution to your miscellaneous expenses fund to keep this FAL ongoing. Thanks for your efforts in all our behalf. Sincerely, -Nellie Schneider, Emp # 7742 (11/13/08) Note with renewal Hi Jake, Enclose is $20 to cover for 2 more years of the Frontier news. I do enjoy receiving it even though so many of our FAL comrades have Gone West. That is part of life we have to expect as we all grow older. Thanks for doing a great job in keeping the FAL stories forever in our memory. Respectfully, Nellie Schneider FAL employee # 7742. (2/1/10) I was informed by the daughter of my boss at FAL (Frank L. Davidson who passed several years ago) that Frank's wife Kay Davidson passed 5/1/10. She lived in the Littleton area and there will be no formal services. Thought perhaps other FAL people would like to know of the passing of a very elegant lady & a staunch Rockies (Colorado) fan. Regards, -Nellie Schneider P. S. Frank was director of communications & fuel procurement during his tenure at FAL. (5/7/10) Letter: Hi Jake, Attached is a notice of Jack Purdie's passing 8-3-10. My ex-husband Peter Schneider (who passed 3-8-2009) was a brother to Jack's wife Helen. Even though he didn't want services I think his FAL co-workers would want to know he has "gone west." I'm enclosing $5 if you could send me 2 copies of the edition to pass back to Helen & his kids. I apologoize for the informal note but no longer have a computer. Respectfully, -Nellie Schneider (9/27/10) Good Morning, Jake! Just sent you a check for $20 to renew my subscription to the Frontier News. I really enjoy getting it and reading it from cover to cover. I do still see people mentioned that I remember. Have one question. There is a person's name listed in almost every issue, Nellie Schneider. I'm wondering if this might be a gal I knew by the name of Nell Wood. She certainly knows people that I remember. If it is Nell Wood would you be able to send me her e-mail. I would like to be in touch with her. Marian Wells Badgley (1/25/11) Not sure Nellie is the same as Nell Wood. Where did Nell Wood work? Nellie Schneider doesn't have email but she wrote this: "I started out at FL in 1952 as a teletype operator (DENCC) sending many flight plans, weather reports, LRs, PRs, & TRs. Then I continued through a torn tape switching system sending reports cross circuit. That was top technology in those days. I worked there from 1952 to 1970 & then took four years off after my second daughter was born. Then a second tour of duty, 1974-1986, in DEN in communications, fuel procurement and administration." Let me know if it fits and I can send you Nellie's postal address and/or phone number. -Jake Lamkins (1/25/11) I think this is one and the same. As I recall Nell Wood was in the Communications area. I would appreciate your sending me her phone number and I will give her a call. If it isn't the same person we might have other friends in common. Thank you so much. -Marian Wells Badgley (1/28/11) Hope you have a great time visiting: -Jake Lamkins (1/28/11) To Jake Some more of our good buddies at FAL have gone west. Thought perhaps you could use the info. (Obits for Chuck Demoney, Ace Avakian and Bill Hilbert enclosed) I typed a lot of flight papers not only for Ace but all the pilots based in DEN from 1952 to 1970 and beyond. I was a teletype operator back in those good old days. I bought my first car from Bill Hilbert, dispatcher, a 1939 Chevie, probably in 1953 and learned to drive on it. He and Virginia, I think, adopted 2 children and were a great family. -Nellie Schneider (3/17/11) Sent with FL News: Hi Nellie, Did you know a clerk named Peg Youngs who worked at FL in the 50s and 60s. I found a Margaret B Youngs on the Feb 1960 company roster which I assume is her since Peg is a common nickname for Margaret. It looks like she died age 95 in 1996. I need more info to build her memorial webpage. Anything you recall would be helpful. Thanks, -Jake Lamkins (4/5/11) Notes with renewal: Hi there Jake, In going back through some of my FL News realized I'm delinquent in getting more issues. As I'm from the "old school" and Old FL no longer have a computer hence my scribbled note. During Dec I was involved with my sister wrapping gifts for the DEN Tennyson Center which operates for orphan and abused children. My sister has a neighbor helping us - a former FL FA Mary Jo Harder and she wants to read my back issues which go back to 2010. I have given my other back issues to sister Ali for their son Todd Brooks who is a FL captain for the new FL. He's carrying on FL "great legacy" & so proud of him. Do appreciate your effort on keeping our old FL alive. It was one happy dedicated and proud bunch of perople to be associated with. Thanks and God Bless Nellie Schneider Emp# 7742, 9-2-52 - 8-26-86 Second note responded to my note above dated 4/5/11: Sorry Jake I found your note in mag and unfortunately do not remember Peg Youngs. I knew Gloria Elquist who also worked acctg & she was a neighbor in Northglenn CO but she has also passed. -Nellie Schneider (1/22/13) FWD by Carolyn Boller Good Afternoon . . .
