MIMI BUCKSTEAD MCCARTNEY 1974 - 1985 RESERVATIONS AGENT, TICKET COUNTER AGENT, STATION AGENT MKC DEN SMF Every so often I go back on our site to see what's happening and unfortunately it's always obit notices. Is there any way we can fish (pfish?) for good/alternate/other news from our members and put that news on the discussion board? Could be easy, a "What's happenin'" kinda' thing where we can find out what our living breathing members are doing. I correspond with Mojo (Mary Jo Muller), JD Newton, Janice Lefler, and Bonnie Bias frequently, as well as a few others occasionally. Their busy rewarding lives are filled with everything from dog rescue, family, successful health-related success stories, relocation, and travels; you name it and we're doing it. We need more of that! I need a reason to look at our site other than to see who died since the last time I checked. Let me know - maybe I can get a few of us to contribute and you can do the same. Let's put the fun back into a formerly dynamic website! I suppose it's necessary for me to post a disclaimer. I truly empathize with our coworkers and the families who have lost a loved one. Believe me, I commiserate with every obit posting and subsequent feedback. We all had a special bond whether or not we knew one another. I'm grateful for that. -Mimi Buckstead McCartney (12/4/07) Thanks for the input. I realize the bad news gets old, but unfortunately that's mostly what I get. I posted your note at the Club so maybe it will provoke some good news. Why don't you send me something about what all the SMF crew has been doing since FL? -Jake Lamkins (12/4/07) Hi! Formerly Mimi Buckstead of MKC Res, DEN TCA, SMF SA. I bailed about 18 months before the bankruptcy. While still at FL I went back to school and got a second bachelor's, this time in IT. Those split shifts gave me plenty of time to study in the back room at SMF and they were also my incentive to get the hell out! -Mimi Buckstead McCartney (7/27/11) Just joined FLacebook today and read this about John Teiber. I had tonsil cancer in 2008 and know what "Heavy" is going through. Although I haven't met him, I'll send an email to let him know that there really is life after cancer and a good one at that. -Mimi Buckstead McCartney (7/27/11) Before FL I was a flight attendant for FTL, based in San Francisco (my home town). The majority of my trips were to Asian and Pacific US military bases as well as charter flights all over the world. It was a terrific job but I had to retire at age 24 because married women weren't allowed to be stewardesses. At the end of my career the majority of flights were to Tan Son Nhut airport in Saigon. I belong to the Pilot's Association, a west coast based alumni group, and thought you might enjoy some links that are in our March newsletter. I appreciate all that you do for us. -Mimi Buckstead McCartney (3/6/12) I worked for Braniff before Frontier, The Flying Tiger Line before Braniff and United States Overseas Airlines before Tigers.... It has been a long journey. -Mimi Buckstead McCartney (11/28/13) I was an F/A during the 60's for the Flying Tiger Line, going to and from Vietnam as well as just about anywhere else in the world you might imagine. Lost my job when I had the audacity to get married, then went to BN Res for five years, and then on to FL in MKC Res, then as a DEN TCA and back home to California to SMF as an SA/TCA. It was a trip for me to buy my first pair of steel towed boots at age 40 to load/unload airplanes. -Mimi Buckstead McCartney (4/15/15) FLacebook posting re L&F problems Yeah, it was awful at times but rewarding at others. I left DEN for SMF (back home in California!) in 1980 and still have friends that I correspond with or meet up with so many years later. These are memories that, awful or fun, are what I remember and I prefer to cherish the fun times and friends rather than the shitheads that we worked with and the irate passengers. That's fluff - friendship is what counts. (12/29/15) For those of you who know Mimi Buckstead she is very ill. She worked for Frontier in Denver so please keep her in your prayers also keep Nikki her daughter in your prayers. -Jan Lefler (12/2/16) For all my Frontier friends who knew Mimi Buckstead; she passed away today from brain cancer. Please keep her daughter Nikki in your prayers. She worked in Denver with us. She was a great friend and will be missed by many. -Jan Lefler (12/4/16) So sorry to hear this news. Many good memories of Mimi. -Larry Kramer (12/4/16) I know Larry I just can't believe it yet. -Jan Lefler (12/4/16) I remember Mimi - we used to have a lot of laughs. -Linda Casey Hamala (12/4/16) She was also in MCI for a short while. Awesome lady! -Lana Wiehe (12/4/16) Peace and comfort for her family and friends. -Bev Cummiskey (12/4/16) This one hurts. I met her in Kansas City. Just a beautiful person. -Jack Cagle (12/5/16) Yes, very sad news.... she worked in SMF. -J.D. Newton (12/5/16) So sorry to hear of the loss of Mini. Her date of hire was 6/3/74 in Kansas City reservations. I don't know when she went to Denver but I have an email from her saying she went to Sacramento in 1980 and resigned from the company 18 months before the Aug 1986 bankruptcy.
