MIKE SALENSKY 1966 - 1986 STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER, MANAGER-LOCAL SERVICE MARKETING, MANAGER-RAMP SERVICES LBL DEN BIL Mike Salensky phoned about his newsletter subscription and we chatted 10 or 15 minutes. It was the first time since 1986 we had conversed It was great hearing from him and I thanked him for the unsolicited letter of recommendation he sent me back in 1986 after the banktuptcy. I told him it was a classy thing to do. A recap of what he said. "I helped close DEN station down which took until November, 1986 and then I went to work at LAXCO. That only lasted about 3 months and I got on with Hudson Aviation in LAX which did contract ground handling. A year later I returned to DEN as Aspen station manager where I stayed 5 years until Air Wisconsin bought them. I decided I had enough of the airline business and started working as a poker dealer in a casino in Black Hawk, CO. I figured it would be a nice change of pace for a few years. Now, 12 years later, I'm still doing it and really enjoy it. Six years ago I married Nancy Siebert who worked in DEN reservations." -Jake Lamkins (4/20/04 Jake, It's probably been only ten years or so but I'm still kickin in Denver. Need to know how much you need to renew my subscription to the Frontier News letter. Last one I have is Issue #19 (Spring 2005) and would like to be brought up-to-date with the issues I have missed. Do you have a phone #? The one that I had is no longer working. -Mike Salensky (1/25/10) Hi Mike, Great hearing from you. I am still putting out the FL newsletter. The January edition is just out. You can see the back issues through 2007 at the FL website. Subscription is still $10 per year. Take care and keep in touch, -Jake Lamkins (1/26/10) Hey Jake, Good to see your still kickin' around. Yes, would like hard copies of the newsletters I am missing. As stated, the last one I have is issue #19 so I need #20 thru the last one printed. Please let me know how much I need to write a check for regarding all the above and I will get it to ya asap. -Mike Salensky (1/26/10) Hi Mike, FL newsletter back issues 20 thru 38 = 19 X $2.50 = $47.50 CD is $5 and year's sub is $10 for total of $62.50. Thanks in advance for your support. -Jake Lamkins (1/28/10) Jake, Thanks for the info and as you have probably heard before, "the checks in the mail" Talk to ya later, my friend. -Mike Salensky (1/28/10) Mike Salensky, DENKL, manager of local service marketing per Nov 1977, Nov 1978, Dec 1979, Dec 1980, Jan 1982 FL Quick Reference Directories. He is BIL station manager in the Jan 1983 QRD. -Jake Lamkins (1/28/10) Hi Mike, I can't remember when/where you started. Weren't you a CN agent? Do you know what happened to Ed Trommeter after FL? Weren't you DEN station manager at the end? You still dealing blackjack? I retired from the FYV post office nearly 7 years ago. -Jake Lamkins (2/2/10) I was originally with CN. Tom Lamb hired me after I got out of the service at Stapleton (Concourse A) in 1966. He sent me to Liberal, Ks (LBL) as an agent. Dwight Smith was the Manager. Larry Nenstiel followed him as MGR and then myself. I was at LBL at the time of the FL/CN merger. - At the very end it was myself, Ed Trommeter and Curt Borg left at DEN. Curt was CS MGR and I was Ramp MGR. Ed and Curt both got offers (both from CO I believe) and had to depart. I was actually the "last man standing". Cleaned up paperwork and equipment inventory along with other fiduciary responsibilities for the Court system. I turned off the lights in early November and did a stint with CO as Station Manager LAX. I am still dealing poker in Blackhawk and have since gaming started in Colo back in 1991. -Mike Salensky (2/2/10) Note with renewal Jake, Hi Buddy, enclosed find my check for $24 to continue my subscription to the newsletter. Would like to keep receiving the hard copy of same please. The last one I received was #50 - winter 2013. Would you please send me any that I have missed. Thanks for your help, -Mike Salensky (8/14/14) Hi Mike, Great hearing from you and I appreciate your support. I'm sending you the six issues you missed which will leave two issues on your two year subscription so your new expiration date is Jan 2015. Hope this finds you well and thriving. As for me, I'm an 18 year old in a 72 year old body wondering what the hell happened. And gravity has become my enemy. -Jake Lamkins (8/14/14) Mike Salensky phoned and we chatted about 10 minutes. He related his health problems of the last few year: a stroke, then stage 4 cancer which he has been fighting since 2011. His son is now 19 and living with him while attending college. Mike turned 70 his last birthday and is retired now. His main question was where he could donate his FL memorabilia as he does not want to lug it around anymore. I told him to contact Carolyn Boller who was working on some museum possibilities and that I would send her contacts. -Jake Lamkins (9/30/15) Nice to hear your still doin your thing. Gonna get out of Dodge and move into seclusion like you. I've had enough of this city life that I have been dealing with for to many years. New Address is in Rifle, Colo. Thanks buddy, still doing ok except for the usual medical issues that have been plaguing me for the past 5-6 years. See ya buddy. -Mike Salensky (7/13/16) Hi Mike, Best wishes on your move and I hope you enjoy small town life. I google mapped your new address and it looks great. I've changed your address for the newsletter. My dad always said "getting old ain't for sissies." and I've been fortunate to live long enough to find out he was right. Hang in there! -Jake Lamkins (7/13/16) I was at my cardiologist office last week, and this man walked in with a cane, very thin, and I thought I know this guy - but then was not sure, so when they called him Mr. Salensky - I knew it..but he was out the door. so I went up to the receptionist and she confirmed his first name was Mike. so darn I didn't get to acknowledge him. But he must have had some kind of heart issue and I would say it affect him - thin, and aged. Guess we are all getting there. I should look him up as obviously he is living in this area - probably Aurora. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving. -Carolyn Boller (11/23/16) I've been in touch with Mike over the years. He takes the FL newsletter. Thanks for your report on seeing him. He has told me about some of his medical issues which included cancer and a stroke. -Jake Lamkins (11/24/16) Mike, I was at Aurora-Denver Cardio, to see my cardiologist on Monday the 14th and I saw someone who looked just like you walk in and I thought it was you but not certain until they called your name and then you sped off and I didn't get to say hi. I sent Jake an email that I had seen you and he sent me your email - so don't fall of the chair when you read this. Just wanted to say hi---hope you had a great day. We should get together for coffee and catch up on the gossip. -Carolyn Boller (11/25/16) Hi kiddo, Very nice to hear from ya. Sorry I missed talking to you on that Monday, I was having some surgery on my leg so I was a little preoccupied. All went well, seeing Dr Sherman the same guy that took care of some new stints in the heart last April. He took care of a valve in my leg that was not allowing blood flow back to the heart. Things looking great now, heart and legs. Apparently Jake didn't tell ya that I have moved. Finally got fed up with the hassle of the Eastern slop and have moved to Rifle this past August. My mom is here and I have moved her into an assisted living facility. She has taken a couple of falls and had hip surgery, She is fine and honestly I love it over here. Quiet and laid back for sure. You can call or email anytime ya want kid, love to keep up on whats going on with our former employees and friends. -Mike Salensky (11/25/16) Jake, Did not get a hardcopy of the Summer 2020 FL News issue here. Can you send one again to me? Thanks -Mike Salensky (9/3/20 Hi Mike, Sorry to hear that. The Post Office let me down bigtime on this mailing which I sent out Jun 29. At least 2 dozen did not get delivered. I have one extra issue left that I'll mail you tomorrow. Let me know when you get it. You can view the digital copy at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/FL_News.html I'm probably going to quit doing tthe hard copy edition. Can't count on the PO, costs too much - $800 and I'm getting old. -Jake Lamkins (9/3/20) Note and check for $75 received September 09, 2020 Jake, I realize how much time and expense is involved in keeping the hard copy of the FL News going and have always appreciated the work you have put into seeing it is still alive. Thanks for finding me a copy of the Summer 2020 and sending to me, got it today. Here is my meager contribution to keep it coming to me. I can only hope that others will, like me, participate as they are able. I, like yourself, are probably old school and just get more enjoyment of having something in your hand to feel and read. There is just so much one does via computer these days that makes viewing and reading seem less important. But that's me buddy. -Mike Salensky (9/14/20) Anything on Salensky. He smoked; figured cancer would have got him by now. -Roger Greenlee (6/1/22) Roger, Last I heard he was retired in Rifle, CO. He has been fighting cancer since 2011. I just google searched him and found he flew west last year. https://obituaries.neptunesociety.com/obituaries/arvada-co/michael-salensky-10236431 -Jake Lamkins (6/2/22) OBITUARY MICHAEL STEPHEN SALENSKY DECEMBER 28, 1941 - JUNE 15, 2021 MICHAEL STEPHEN SALENSKY was born on December 28, 1941 and passed away on June 15, 2021 You may leave a message for the family by clicking here. Post your remembrances of Mike. -Jake Lamkins (6/12/22) Trish Swanson-Hawk Mike was always a straight forward man in my books especially when I worked with him while I was with the union at the DEN airport. Buck and I ran into him when we were working at the casinos in Colorado, had a good laugh that we were all in the business. Sending prayers to his family and many friends. Karen Berry RIP Mike Joe Barker Mike was a wonderful boss, he hired me in my first Station Manager’s job and was a mentor to me. Got to know Mike as a personal friend, great sense of humor, caring person and all round good guy. We kept in touch about twice a year from 86 until his death. RIP Mike, you were one of the best. Jake Lamkins to Joe Barker, do you have any details about his flight west? Joe Barker to Jake Lamkins, I don’t, I spoke with him in April of last year I believe - he sounded weak but still the same old Mike. John Dahl Mike was my boss when I was a Tower Manager. I think those were the O'Gorman days. He was sharp and quick witted. Always called most people by their last name. I saw him a few years ago at a reunion. He seemed to be enjoying life as a dealer in Blackhawk. (6/12/22) Fred Watson Mike helped me with a difficult situation whileI was in DEN and I will always be grateful. R.I.P, Mike Mark Dooley Great guy to work for. I remember almost getting into trouble for having initialed a time card and it apparently looked like Mike's. I had to prove it was my way of writing my initials by writing my initials on a piece of paper several times. RIP Mike. Gary Osadchuk Mike hired me for my first station manager job in Vernal in 1979. I enjoyed working with him. (6/13/22)
