Welcome aboard, Mel. -Jake Lamkins (1/11/11) Can you send a 1 year Frontier newsletter subscription to Mel Maynard, from his niece Pam. He's turning 80 on Sunday, July 31. He was a pilot for Frontier, don't know his seniority date. -Bonnie Dahl (7/29/11) Sounds like a plan. Should I start Mel's subscription with the next issue since you gave him your summer issue? Mel started 6/5/67 as a 727 flight engineer. I'll get your copy in the mail tomorrow. Jake Lamkins (7/29/11) Thanks for the reunion update. Wish I could have been there. Unfortunately I was under the weather at that time. Seems like, as we age ( I just turned 80 ) that is an ongoing thing. However, praise the Lord, I seem to recuperate pretty fast each time. I look at the gone west list and so many memories come back to me about the personal experiences I had with most of them. Have to realize that we are all at that age now, but it is still hard to let go. Hope to stay in touch with you. Sincerely, -Mel Maynard (8/31/11) I agree with you wholeheartedly. I keep telling all of my friends in Church, and other places, how important it is to write your life story for your descendents. I have talked to my Pastor and his wife about starting a ministry helping people in our Church to get started on writing theirs, and they thought it was a great idea. I thought you might be interested in the way I started my story. My Life's Journey Foreword By Melvin L. Maynard Everyone has a story to tell. This is mine. My lovely wife Charlotte, and our four daughters, Melody, Marilyn, Lori and Kim had been encouraging me for quite some time to write my story, so this is my first big attempt. Life is a journey consisting of a series of events, some good, some bad, some funny, some sad, and some just average. Each and every event is frozen in time, and will remain so, if nothing is ever attempted to revive them. It is not fair to our descendants if we don't make some kind of attempt to chronicle these events, and our feelings and reactions, to pass down to them. Oh how I wish I would have been more interested in the stories of my Parents lives. They lived in an era that was devoid of so many of the finer things of life which we (the spoiled generation) take for granted today. In writing my story I felt at a loss, at times, when I wished I could ask one of my parents, or one of my brothers, or sister ( all of whom are now deceased) for more details about certain events that took place when I was very young. As I reached back in my memory bank, I sometimes found it difficult, if n ot impossible, to remember details of some other events that certainly would have been interesting to future generations. So with much zeal and prayer, I dedicate this labor of love, "My Life's Journey", to my beautiful wife and daughters. And to my loved ones, now and for the generations to come, I pray that this story will bless you, and enlighten you, as you go back with me in the pages of time. May God enrich, and Bless, your lives abundantly, as he has mine. With all my love, Grandpa Mel -Mel Maynard (1/4/12) FLacebook 82nd birthday today. -Jake Lamkins (8/4/13) A question for you, Jake Do you suppose Frontier inflight magazines from the 80's would be worth anything? I have a few of them. Please let me know. Thank you, -Mel Maynard (6/27/14) Hi Mel, I see them for sale at Ebay.com all the time but I don't know if they sell well. I have a lot of them myself but might be able to use some of the ones you have. Can you send me a list of the month/year issues you have. Good hearing from you. -Jake Lamkins (6/27/14) FLacebook Mel is 83 today. -Jake Lamkins (8/4/14) Thank you Jake What a labor of love you perform each and every day to keep us all informed of the latest news. What department were you in at Frontier? I don't recall ever hearing your name. I was first a Flight Engineer on the 727 then a co-pilot on the 580, then a co-pilot on the 737, and ended up as captain on the 737. Once again, thanks for all of your work in this unending task of keeping all of us from the "Old" Frontier updated. Sincerely, -Mel Maynard (10/15/14) Hi Mel, Always great to hear from you and thank you for the kind words. There is a short biography of me on page 23 of the Spring 2014 Frontier News. I've attached a copy for you. Best regards, -Jake Lamkins (10/16/14) Today, my mom and dad celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary! What an amazing example they have been to me and my sisters and their grandchildren! I love them so much and am very grateful that God gave them to me. Happy anniversary mom and dad!!! — -Kim Maynard Gilmer (7/3/15) I am writing to let you know that Mel Maynard, a long time pilot for the old Frontier Airlines is very ill. He has been failing the last couple of years and a few months ago he was diagnosed with luekemia. He has been in a rehab center and then last Saturday they transferred him to a hospital and was going to do a bone marrow transplant but he developed pneumonia. Charlotte (his wife) is not given much hope for him surviving very long but will keep me informed. I, in turn, will keep you informed. I'm sure you will know who I am talking about since Don told me you get articles from him occasionally for your newsletter. -Shirley Drnovsek (7/15/15) To those of you who know and love my father, Melvin Maynard, I wanted to let you know that his health has taken a turn for the worse, and he isn't doing very well. I have started a Caring Bridge site where we will be sending updates on his health and condition. We covet your prayers for Dad and our family, especially our sweet mom as we go through this journey together. -Kim Maynard Gilmer (7/15/15) I learned at church this morning that Mel passed away yesterday. Our pastor recognized his passing with quite a tribute. Apparently, his room number at the nursing home was 747 or 757. Can't remember which. Then everyone sang the song "I'll Fly Away" which was quite a tribute. There was not a dry eye place in that building. He was liked by everyone and was quite an active member. His whole family were all there. Kids, grandkids, great grandkids, etc. Don't know anything about funeral arrangements yet, but will let you know if I find out anything. -Shirley Drnovsek (7/19/15) Mel was a really neat guy, I flew a lot of trips with him. Goodbye to good friend Mel. -Bonnie Dahl (7/19/15) His funeral is Aug 2 at 1000, but his niece didn't have address for church.
