MADGE CASSINAT GROTH 1948 - 1952 STATION AGENT RWL RIW Early in 1950, shortly after the mergers that started FL, I was hired and sent to RIW. At that time RIW was a three man station and our office was on one end of the Sky Club, a local night club, which was constructed of logs and had a gambling casino in the basement. Our operations area was about 25 by 10 feet. Usually, there would only be one agent on duty, but since I was new an experience agent worked with me. This particular agent was a young lady by name of Madge Cassinat, about 5 feet tall and 100 lbs. Soaking wet, but a stickler on proper procedures. -Glenn Emmons (2/9/06) Just a note about the article on Bill Cook in your last issue of FL News. I met Bill in early 1950 when I was hired by FL. & sent to RIW. Bill was the air mail carrier & picked up mail from Lander & RIW & met the flights. RIW was a 3 employee station & as I recall, had 3 flights, from DEN, SLC & BIL with intermediate stops. Lou Zellia was the s/m & Madge Cassinat & myself the agents. The merger of the 3 airlines was just taking place. We had 3 different DC-3s flyin & we did the fueling, freight & TC. (1 agent) -Glenn Emmons (2/13/10) LUCY M. My initial research got sidetracked because her mother has the same name. The ancestry item (above) notes her marriage to Smokey Groth whom I found to have flown west too. They married Jun 29, 1952 so I have assumed that's when she quit Frontier and moved to Billings MT where Smokey was based with Frontier. Then I found a news item (below) about Smokey getting married again in 1956 so their marriage did not last long. -Jake Lamkins (1/6/20) March 14, 1956 The Billings Gazette from Billings, Montana RECEIVE LICENSE SHERIDAN, Wyo. A marriage license was issued at the office of the Sheridan county clerk to Charles Junior Groth, 30, and Nancy Otteson, 20, both of Billings. -https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/409828632/ (1/6/20) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Madge Cassinat Groth RWL RIW station agent Madge Cassinat Groth's memorial webpage is posted at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Madge_Cassinat_Groth.html She was Frontier's first female station agent and married another station agent, Smokey Groth.
