Regards, -Jake Lamkins P.S. HAPPY (Belated) BIRTHDAY, Mac! (8/7/13) Captain Mac Howe has flown West Some or most of you may already have this info. I just got home from a two week tour in Montreal, Canada doing acceptance flights on our new B-737 Simulator. I got a phone call from Jim Ford while there that Captain Mac Howe had flown West. Since all my mail lists are in my home computer and I was in Canada I did not have a way to notify y'all from there at the timeI got the call. I'm sorry for the late note. -Phil Stallings (11/23/14) What a fine fellow Mac was. Slow talkin' and a deep thinker but not much went by him. One thing I'll always remember about Mac.... We were both students in Bill Huffman's CV-600 ground school and Bill was thoroughly explaining the inner workings of the Dowdy-Rotol airscrew (propeller). We all sat quietly in awe (or half awake) until Bill asked Mac what he thought of it all. Mac's reply way in a slow Texas drawl: "Don't think I'd change a thing , Bill. Looks like it oughta work just fine just the way it is." The rest of us roared in laughter. -Frosty Frost (11/23/14) Frosty, thanks for your story, it's story's like that we all like to remember about the great pilots we flew with, and what they meant to us. I always will!!! -Big John Winters (11/23/14) Hear Say: "Central got a letter once upon a time, 'CAN YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THOSE CHEW TOBACCO STREAKS DOWN THE CAPTAIN'S SIDE OF THE AIRPLANE ?' A good man. -Phil Stallings (10/27/19) http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Mac_Howe.html -Jake Lamkins (10/27/19) My favorite memory of Mac Howe. We were trained for safety & customer service. Tried to handle the unruly passenger without bothering the crew for help. Cv580 over AR, early ‘70’s. I had a mean one. Disrupting, loud, seemed 7 ft tall. I finally accepted I needed help. Told Capt Howe & Jessie Parks? & asked how I should proceed. Mac said, “send him up here!!” I’m like, “well shouldn’t I be able to handle this” ? “Send him up here!” I went back to cabin to tell passenger captain Howe wants to see him... The man actually shrank. But said ok. I unlocked cockpit door & saw Mac’s huge hand waving the passenger inside. Closed the door & finished service. Before landing, the man came out of the cockpit - about 5 feet tall, meek as a lamb. Simply with yes mam Thank you mam After landing, Mac went inside for a break & I asked Jesse what happened. He said Capt Howe’s big hand encouraged the man into the cockpit. Then told him. “Look, that little girl back there has a job to do. If you give her any more problem. I’ll land this s.o.b. in a cornfield & throw your ass off. Do I make myself clear?” The mouse of a man that came out of the cockpit was very nice & polite. Forever grateful. -Karen Fox (10/28/19) Great story Karen.... Mac taught me a lot about what a Captain should be. I hope I did him proud -Phil Stallings (10/28/19)
