He always has been and will be remembered as a favorite crew member and we know he was so much more than that. -Kathleen & Lou Dionne Lou - FAL Capt. 1959 - 1984 Kathleen - FAL FA 1967 - 1985 (6/8/09) Had an update from Kathy Dionne that Lou's Parkinsons disease is causing him some problems. They've kept it under control for years and he's enjoyed a good quality of life. Ruling out tumor or infections he has had a few falls and has lost some weight. Kathy was coming to Denver for a visit in Feb but decided to cancel to stay close to Lou. She said she always knew this day could come but was not prepared for it to come on so suddenly. They're doing tests to see what is going on and will make changes in his meds and diet to see if that helps. Kathy (Engebretsen) was a flight attendant for Frontier out of DEN, SLC and DFW domiciles till she retired and they moved to Port Angeles WA. Lou's daughter, Michelle, is pilot for CO and lives near Golden. Several of their close friends from DFW have relocated out to that part of WA so they still enjoy a huge circle of friends and family. They maintain great relationships with Kathy's friends in Sweden so they have traveled often in their retirement. I have always admired the respect and dedication they have shown their partneship in life. A real love story. -Rosie Wirth VanEpps (2/5/10) FLacebook Engebretsen was my maiden name. Married Capt. Lou Dionne in 1980. -Kathleen Dionne (6/24/11) Married in 1980!! Seems like yesterday we were at your home in Lewisville for the big event. -Gerrie Donaldson (6/24/11) Had a call from dear friend Kathleen Dionne, yesterday, letting me know her beloved Lou had passed earlier in the day. Complications from falls, due to his Parkinsons disease, his health had declined over the last month. They live in a beautiful home in Port Angeles WA and Lou passed away there with Kathleen and family . Kathy and Lou had a love not many get to witness. His health, with Kathys help, kept him up and on the road.. they even spent a few weeks in Sweden in late summer, attended the FL reunion in Denver and headed on to their next function. Lou and Kathy shared sail boats and many international travels to visit friends. Even tho Lou was slowing down,,Kathy, God bless her, vowed to keep meeting relatives and connecting those ties.. Comfort to Lou Dionne's family. -Rosemary Wirth VanEpps (11/7/14) So sorry to hear about Lou! Saw he and Kathleen at the reunion in August. Family will have a memorial celebration of his life later in the year; time and place still not set. More to follow as I compile a timeline of his flying career. -Kathleen Dionne (11/17/14) Lou flew into JAC many many times and he was always fun to visit with and always was in good spirit. These pilots that are leaving us were a credit to their profession. -Kenneth Wientjes (11/18/14) Capt. Lou Dionne memorial I have not written an obituary for publication but for his FAL memorial page you could use the following and edit as you see fit. Lou Dionne, born Aug. 26, 1927 passed away Nov. 5, 2014 from multiple complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was originally from near Detroit, Michigan. After high school graduation at seventeen he joined the Navy just in time to see the ending of WWII. After electronic school he opened his own Radio/Television sales & service retail store. While running that business he began pursuing his dream of flying and was hired by Frontier in Feb.1959, moving his family with four children to Colorado. He was based at different times in Denver, Billings, Salt Lake City and Dallas/Ft. Worth with one very short time in Kansas City. He flew DC 3, Convair 580, Boeing 727 & Boeing 737 and loved his job. But he also had many other interests so his off time was always filled with other activities. He had a ranch in Colorado where he kept a herd of buffalo, and later sail boating, from 20 & 25 footers on lakes & the Sea of Cortez to a 45 footer sailed across the Gulf of Mexico. After retirement he also went back to flying one of his earlier airplanes, buying a Bonanza from Capt. John Leslie. In 1997 he moved from Texas to Washington state where he lived until his death at home under hospice care. He is survived by wife, Kathleen, and his four children; Sue (Jim) Alkire, Michele (Tim) Stull, David (Denise) Dionne, and Kathryn (Jeff Nichols) Dionne; 5 grandchildren Dan (Amber) Cox, Joe (Anna) Alkire, Hilary Gore, Erik Christensen, James Dionne, and two great-grandchildren; Danika and Savannah. Thank you again for all you do for the FLamily. You do such a fine job and are very appreciated. Hope you have had a wonderful Christmas. -Kathleen Dionne (12/28/14) FLacebook - FL Club BIL SLC DFW MCI DEN pilot Lou Dionne's memorial webpage has been updated. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Lou_Dionne.html Several items added including an obituary/memorial from Kathleen. -Jake Lamkins (1/3/15)
