LINDA CHERRY PITTS 1966 - 1986 RESERVATIONS AGENT, STATION AGENT, SUPERVISOR - RESERVATIONS TRAINING GSW DAL KCK PHX DEN Jake: We moved and I just got a mailing from Principal Life Insurance Co, saying I might be entitled to a retirement benefit and asks for personal info. Before I respond, I would like to know if you or others know if this is for real or is a scam. All the work you've done on the web site is great. Just went through it all. If you know anything about a possible retirement benefit, I would love to know. I spent almost 20 years with Frontier, some in ALEA and a few years in management. Thank you for any help you can give. I'm now living in Scottsdale, AZ. -Linda Pitts (Cherry) (12/3/04) Hi Linda, Principal does handle the FL ALEA pensions. Phone them at 1-800-944-8631 ex. 57274. Last I heard Vicki Prorock was handling our account. She is very helpful. The ALEA pensions were preserved so you should have something coming. I've been getting $313 per month for the past 7 years on a 10 year pay-out ($37,000). Who would believe there was anything left? Let me know how you make out. -Jake Lamkins (12/3/04) I'll contact Vicki and see if there is anything there for me. I always kept my ALEA membership, even when I was in management. I had accepted a DFW ramp position in 1976, not too long after Linda Harris did, which was when they began allowing females to do this job. Then I was injured and had to go back to Res. But instead of going back to Kansas City, I went to Denver in early 1977. Thank you, -Linda Pitts (Cherry) (12/4/04) Jake: As I have been reading all the history of FL on your web site, I have a question. Is the Frank Lorenzo discussed the same man who was brought in to be vice president of Pricing at Frontier for several years in late 1970s or early 1980s? If I'm not remembering his name right, tell me. This VP, in my opinion, was largely responsible for the downfall of FL and untold lost sales in reservations. I was the one in Den Res who dealt with the pricing dept and all their wild, ridiculous special fares when deregulation began. And eventually Hank Lund took me to three meetings of the vice-presidents so I could explain what was happening to sales as a result of Pricing's unsellable special fares, which rules kept changing each week. The first two meetings, Hank told me to just listen and I did. Then on the third meeting, he had me engage the guy in the real facts of what was happening, the lost calls, the lost sales, etc etc, as a direct result of his outrageous special fares. I had all the facts and he could not refute them. Plus the other VPs learned what was going on. In Res, we used to joke that if a person wore one purple sock and one yellow sock and would hop on one leg out to the plane, he could get a really good fare. This is how ridiculous the special fares were coming out of pricing department that we in Res and probably you folks in the stations tried unsuccessfully to sell. I often wondered if the man's secret agenda was to put FL out of business. With deregulation, we had lots of new competition from startup airlines. But if we had had someone in Pricing who had a clue about what passengers wanted and would buy, it would have made a huge difference. Everyone knew that this VPs method of operating was Management by Intimidation. And in the three meetings I was in with all the VPs, I could see this at work. He was a master at it. Anyway, I am now jotting down more facts from my FL days and I'd like to get the names straight. And, do you recall the station manager's name at DFW. It was Dick ??. I know Larry Thomas was over the ramp and Ted Simmons was over ticket counter. Thank you, -Linda Cherry Pitts (12/6/04) Hi Linda, That's an interesting observation about how pricing impacted FL's demise. Frank Lorenzo never worked for FL but the fellow you're thinking about is Joseph A. Lorenzo. I don't know if he's related to "Frank the Skank" but the behavior you describe makes it likely. While reading the FL histories, be sure to read Dena Andrew's essay. She lays a lot of blame on Lowell Shirley who was VP-Information Services. Dick Gibson is the DFW manager you're trying to think of. He went to SHV and is still in that area, I think. After DFW, Larry Thomas was manager at FSM and Ted Simmons was at HOU. -Jake Lamkins (12/6/04) Since the early 1990s, I have been helping my younger daughter raise her six children. We started an in-home business of publishing family books, etc, and now we publish commercial books as well as histories for historical societies, churches, groups, etc. It truly takes every ounce of energy I've had, and hers too. The business and the kids. -Linda Cherry Pitts (12/6/04) I didn't hear from Linda again after that. Kayla Pfeiffer Naima My condolences to her family RIP Linda Carolyn Boller Oh my--Linda was in MCI Res and then moved to Denver when Kansas City Res closed. Linda was extremely helpful to me when doing union work and a terrific person to seek counsel when needed. She moved to Arizona and was there for a number of years and then came back to Colorado--living in south Arapahoe. We got together once for lunch then she moved to Fort Collins and we didn't reconnect after her move-- although she was on the reunion list. I am so sorry to hear this. Linda was a really good person. Julie Dickman She was in PHX reservations and she was a hoot! Never a dull moment when she was around. Everyone liked her.
