"Frontier Airlines and employee representatives of the Air Line Employees Association (ALEA) reached an amicable agreement covering improved salaries, vacations and other working conditions fo the 650 station, reservations and stores personnel represented by ALEA..." I will make a copy and mail it to you, and also do a little more digging and try to identify the exact date since the article does not give a date. -Ken Schultz (3/26/05) SCHULTZ, KENNETH EUGENE 74 SCHULTZ, RUTH -Intelius.com (3/27/05) Just a note to say thanks, once again, for the informative packets you send my way. I really appreciate them. -Jake Lamkins (6/18/05) Wow, Ken, that was one great package you sent. Thank you so much, -Jake Lamkins (He sent a bunch of pix & info on the CN pursers, a new "we remember" list, etc.) (7/27/07) Don Cecil phoned and we got together later for coffee. And he said Ken Schultz has prostate cancer which is way too bad. I just got a great packet of CN info from Ken today. -Jake Lamkins (8/17/07) Hey Ken, The packet today was one of the best ever. The CN info is priceless. You're GREAT! Had coffee today with Don Cecil. He was in FYV for a Korean War reunion. -Jake Lamkins (8/17/07) Jake, I would like to request copies of FL NEWS printed back issues for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, and have you mail them to: A.J. Littlefield Also start a 1 year subscription for him. I am enclosing a check for $50 to cover the costs. If it is more let me know, and if there ia any left over, put it into the postage fund. A.J was a lead mechanic in Denver and started for Frontier in 1963. -Ken Schultz (10/15/07) Hi Ken, Got your letter and check yesterday for A.J. I got his packet mailed today. Thanks for your support, -Jake Lamkins (10/16/07) Christmas letter excerpts: Ken began chemo therapy January 2nd with a PSA of 238. With treatments every three weeks, his PSA is now down to 3.6.. The bone cancer is no longer increasing. He needs back surgery, but that is not an option at this time because it would mean discontinuing the chemotherapy. For our tenth wedding anniversary, November 1st, we went to Glenwood Springs so that we could enjoy the wonderful warmth of the pools. -Ruth Schultz (12/15/07) Hi Ken, Thanks for the fabulous packet of info on Clyde Lockhart you sent that I received today. Great stuff! -Jake Lamkins (2/29/08) Hi Ken, Thanks a bunch for the seniority list I got today from you. Do I remember right that you were a maintenance scheduler? Did you hold other positions? When did you start? Always in DEN? -Jake Lamkins (3/17/08) I'm one of those that worked for Frontier twice. I hired on with Monarch Air Lines as a mechanic April 24, 1950, and of course continued on thru Frontier's start of scheduled service June 1, 1950. The last of the three Arizona Airways DC-3's was being overhauled so a number of mechanics were hired. The overhaul was done in November 1950, and I was furloughed November 15, 1950. I received a recall letter in February 1953, but turned it down because I had just started to work in Denver as a mechanic for United Airlines. I went to work for Frontier again in Denver as a mechanic July 13, 1965. In March 1966, I transferred to the Technical Services Department as a Technical Assistant. Then thru several Job Title changes to October 1979 (Technical Assistant, Service Engineer, Technical Specialist, Senior Technical Specialist ). The Maintenance Control Center was organized in October 1979, and I was a Manager on Duty - Maintenance Control Center, until the bankruptcy shutdown in August 1986. -Ken Schultz (3/20/08) Posted at the FL Club: Subject: FL Club Ken Schultz obituary database Ken sent an updated database dated 3/22/08 which is mostly maintenance and management FLolks. I scanned the 11 pages of data and they are posted at the maintenance and management obituary webpages at the FL website. Thanks, Ken, for all the work. -Jake Lamkins (4/26/08) Xmas letter with card excerpt: Ken continued with radiation and chemotherapy during the whole year. Although his PSA has climbed beyond what was acceptable for the special study drug he was receiving, he has been accepted into a new study program and received his first special treatment this week. -Ruth Schultz (12/26/08) Thanks for the latest We Remember list received today. It's a tremendous FLamily resource. -Jake Lamkins (This would be the last one I received.) (4/20/09) I've been diagnosed with Stage 3 Cancer in my Bone Skeletal Structure and although I've taken radiation and chemotherapy for over five years my cancer doctor says the best he can do is relieve the bone pain with radiation and pain pills. One of the several other side effects is the loss of energy. Another is that I've had to use a walker due to loss of feeling in my lower legs caused by neuropathy from the Chemo. I'm also going to cancel out this e-mail address. -Ken Schultz (1/31/10) (This was about the only time Ken ever mentioned his health problems.) I'm truly sorry to hear this, Ken. Let me know if I can help in any way. And thank you very much for your help and friendship. You're in my thoughts in this difficult time, -Jake Lamkins (1/31/10) Dear Ken, Cheryl and I read your e-mail with great emotion this morning. We have you in our thoughts and prayers. You will likely hear the statement “…if there is anything we can do for you…” Sincerely, if there is anything you feel I could be doing for you, I will give it my best shot. We all appreciate all that you have done to keep the Frontier Mystique going. No one will ever fill your shoes, but we should try! -Billy Walker (1/31/10) Don Cecil phoned to tell me Ken Schultz was in the hospital. They told him they were suspending treatment for his cancer since there was no hope. He is to come home today. Ken told Don he wanted no visitors and had shut off his email. Don wanted to know if I had Ken's FL database and I told him no but someone needs to save all Ken's FL files. Don will check with Leo Schuster and see what can be done. Ken will be a huge loss to the FLamily. He was so helpful to me in all aspects of the FL work. I asked Don to get a pic and an obituary when it happens. -Jake Lamkins (2/4/10) Email to Billy Walker: Thanks, Billy. Got a call today from Don Cecil, DEN MX, who told me Ken Schultz was in hospital but being sent home today after being told there was nothing else they could do for him. Ken told Don he didn't want any visitors. So I'm not posting anything out of respect for his privacy. His loss will leave a HUGE gap in the FLamily. He has helped me 100s of times the past ten years. I've had the blues all day. -Jake Lamkins (2/4/10) Brady White phoned to get Ken Schultz' mailing address. He said Ken sounded weak last time he spoke to him. He also noted that he and Ken had both worked for WA at one time or another. Brady worked for them in 1963-64 during the CN strike. -Jake Lamkins (4/21/10) (I sent an email with a FL question and inadvertently included Ken's eddress.) I will print your message and give it to Ken. However, I am not sure that he will be able to comprehend it. It is obvious that the end is near. He is at home and has hospice care as well as 24-hour care from a home health agency. -Ruth Schultz (4/22/10) Posted at the FL Club: Subject: Ken Schultz Our FLriend and FL historian Ken Schultz is terminally ill. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers. No phone calls or email, please. Ken is the one who saved so many of FL's records and got them in the DEN library. The Lord has taken Ken to be with Him and to free him from his five-year battle with cancer. -Ruth Schultz (5/3/10) My sincerest condolences. Ken was a great guy and saved so much Frontier history. We wanted to be sure you had a copy. -Bill and Barb Monday (5/7/10) The ten years I've published the FRONTIER NEWS newsletter have been highlighted by my friendship with Ken Schultz who has sent informational packets, photos, answers to questions and dates while maintaining his We Remember obituary database of maintenance and managerial folks which he always updated to me annually so that it could be posted and distributed. He saved many of the FL files, history and memorabilia by giving them to the Denver Library. He is simply irreplacable and all the FLamily will be poorer because of his absence. -Jake Lamkins (5/8/10) Posted at the FL Club: Subject: New memorial webpage KEN SCHULTZ 1950, 1965 - 1986 AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, TECHNICAL ASSISTANT, SERVICE ENGINEER, TECHNICAL SPECIALIST, SENIOR TECHNICAL SPECIALIST, MANAGER-MAINTENANCE CONTROL CENTER DEN http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Ken_Schultz.html Post your remembrances of Ken. -Jake Lamkins (5/10/10) Just a short note to let you know that Shirley and I attended the services for Ken yesterday. And I just got Greg's eulogy off the guestbook. -Jake Lamkins (5/12/10) Received two burial notes from Don Cecil which were used at Ken's funeral. Will post at Ken's memorial webpage. -Jake Lamkins (5/15/10) 2010 CHRISTMAS LETTER As many of you already know, Ken lost his five year battle with cancer on May 2, 2010. Just ten days earlier on April 23, his older brother, Earl, died suddenly of a massive heart attack. Then on October 23 his younger brother, Glenn, died of a ruptured bowel. Within six months all three brothers were gone and are greatly missed. It was a wonderful marriage. I am just sorry that it couldn't have been longer. My family has been a great help doing many of the things Ken used to do for me. At age 80 I don't move as fast as I used to. I still have most of Ken's airline collection. I am working with the new air museum in Erie and hope they will take most of his airline memorabilia. -Ruth Schultz (12/22/10) Carolyn Boller gave me the name of a contact at the Colorado History Museum who may be interested in some of the memorabilia that Ruth Schultz said she has in her garage. I have also contacted a person at the Denver Public Library who said she is interested in seeing what kinds of Frontier documents that Ruth has. I plan to visit Ruth when I'm able to walk again and see what she has in her garage. When I get to do that, I will contact the person I talked with at the Denver Public Library and let her know. She said that she will then meet me at Ruth's and keep what she thinks is worthwhile. So I appreciate the help of you and Carolyn and am pleased that we will apparently find a good repository for the things related to Frontier Airlines that Ken Schultz saved. -Dave Owens (4/29/12) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Ken Schultz DEN manager-maintenance control center Ken Schultz' memorial webpage has been updated at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Ken_Schultz.html I miss Ken almost daily. I still miss him too. -Bill Guthrie (7/8/17) Wishing all who are missing Ken to be comforted. -Jim Recknor (7/16/17) What do you know about barb wire? Ken Schultz got me collecting that. He was telling me about a close call he had while he was out in the boondocks looking for some rare kind of barb wire. There’s a plier type tool that’s handy when you're stringing or maintaining barb wire. Ken spotted some wire he thought was different and he got his tool and headed to check it out. It was the regular run of the mill. He sees a pickup heading his way and it’s coming pretty fast. One of them farmers catch you with a barb wire cutting tool you might need help getting help. So he drops it and covers it up the best he can and goes to his car and gets in. About then the guy in the pickup pulls up and asks Ken what’s he doing out here. Ken told him he seen some pheasants and went to take closer look. Then he asked Ken if he would just move on. Ken asked why. The guy told him we been having trouble around. Ken said he didn’t ask any more and drove off. He never did go back to look for those pliers. -Joe Aguirre (5/22/19)
