KARL BANCROFT 1948 - 1986 STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER, PILOT, DISPATCHER VEL SLC DEN K. D. BANCROFT VEL Stn Mgr Per 11/4/55 FL Roster. ------------------------- K. D. BANCROFT SLC Copilot DOB 8/3/30 DOH 6/23/48 Per 2/60 FL Roster. ------------------------- Not on the CHA 7/15/48 Roster so he must be MON. -Jake Lamkins (5/16/11) Lynn McEwan phoned about to tell me he had not gotten the last two FL News. He mentioned the GRI accident that was in an earlier issue. He told me he was first officer on eastbound flight 364 at GRI that night. Bob Nicholson was the captain but Lynn was flying. It was VFR and they were cleared to land before westbound flight 363 with Capt Joe Romano and FO Karl Bancroft. They were well into the final when the runway lights went out. They called GRI who told them ground fog had moved in. They finished the approach at the 400' minimum but only say a glimmer of runway lights. So they overflew and proceeded to their next stop. As they left the area they heard flight 363 cleared for approach. They did not find out about the crash until they got to the next stop. Romano was the captain on 363 but Bancroft was flying. He got the blame and was terminated as a pilot and became a FL dispatcher. -Jake Lamkins (7/30/11) Note with subscription: KARL D. TUS -Jake Lamkins (7/30/12) Karl passed away today. Funeral services will be held in Tucson and internment at Ft. Logan in Denver. Will let you know when his daughter calls. As you know Karl was a really great guy! -Ernie Van Winkle (5/19/13) Agreed Ernie, Karl was a great guy, really too bad. Thanks for the update. -Gus Stearns (5/19/13) The CAF had several aircraft in Tucson recently. I contacted Karl to see if he'd like to come out for a flight. He sounded great and indicated he would be there and that we'd catch up some between my flights. He never made it out and now I'm really regretting not calling him back to check up. I always felt Karl got the short end of the stick from the GRI accident in the CV340. Several of the senior captains I flew with early-on felt that way too. Karl was terrific to work with when he was the dispatcher assigned to my flights. Sad to know he's Gone West... -Billy Walker (5/20/13) I am the daughter of Karl D Bancroft, a former pilot and dispatcher for Frontier. He began with Monarch in 1949 and was with Frontier until 1986. He asked me to contact you and place him on your list of those who have passed away. He died on 5/19/2013. Let me know if you need a photo or other information to place him on the Obit page of your website and/or roster. Thank you, -Karlanne Bancroft Sinkovic (5/21/13) Dear Karlanne, I was so surprised to hear about your dad. He and I had spoken last January. My condolences to you and your mom. Email me photos, stories, obituary, etc. that you wish to be on his page. There will also be an item on him is the July issue of the Frontier newsletter - let me know what address to send you a copy. With sympathy, -Jake Lamkins (5/21/13) Thanks for your note. Our condolences to you, Vi, and the rest of the Bancrofts. Karl called me in response to the message. We were going to get together in Tucson when I was there with our Commemorative Air Force aircraft. He didn't show up and, unfortunately, I didn't try to call him. Another of life's happenings that give pause... Your father was a very well liked fellow at Frontier and we will think of him often. I remember many of my flights when Karl was the dispatcher. Best to you, your Mom, and Karl's family.
