JOHN HOFFMAN 1978 - 1986 PILOT DEN J S HOFFMAN Pilot seniority date of 1/09/78 per 9/1/86 FL/ALPA Seniority List. Not sure why his FLacebook profile shows 1978-83. -Jake Lamkins (1/20/12) FLacebook Some of you may not know that John has been in the hospital for a month to have surgery on a blocked aorta. Surgery did not go as planned. they sewed him up to recover and took him to ICU where he couldn't breath without a respirator. One week later they took him off the respirator but he was disoriented, He needed his flight suit to be able to leave, he was stuck in Phoenix because the airline shut down. I've cleaned that up some but you get the idea. He is being moved to a nursing home in Greeley for therapy to help him learn to walk again. Hopefully another surgery will be tried within a month. I have taken over all of the farm work plus my dogs and trying to research VA benefits. -Pam Hoffman (8/19/13) I am sorry to hear about John and pray that he will soon be well. I always enjoyed John's company. We flew together at FAL and got together some at Continental. Wish him well for me. -Denny Finke (8/19/13) Get well soon, John! Deanna Collum (8/19/13) Give John my best. Haven't seen for 48 years but grew up together down the road. Were in Hoofprinters together. -Gerry Hines (8/19/13) I appreciate the update. We will keep our thoughts and prayers on you and him. -Hugh Chance (8/19/13) Prayers and Best Wishes for John! ...from another John (pilot) in Houston who was with Det 1 of the Buckley CO ANG back in the 70's and 80's with him. Recovery may be a tad slow, but is certainly doable...best of luck John! -John Heimburger (8/19/13) FLacebook Bad news today, John has been moved to hospice in Greeley. The Drs are saying he is a functional paraplegic and will never walk again. His pneumonia is not getting better and the bed sore won't heal due to the lack of circulation. He was cracking jokes today with pain meds on board. -Pam Hoffman (8/29/13) Tell him we love him and are praying for him and his family. -Dan Albers (8/29/13) Thank you for update. Give John our best and praying for him daily. -Gerry Hines (8/29/13) Thanks again for the update. Can U forward the address where he is? I would love to get by 2 see him if I can work it out. -Hugh Chance (8/29/13) Please tell John all his Old Frontier Airlines Friends are rooting for him and hope he recovers quickly and completely. -Jake Lamkins (8/29/13) FLacebook John Hoffman flew West at 5 AM this morning. -Ed Woodson (8/31/13) FLacebook John Hoffman has "Gone West" He died peacefully at 5:30 this morning. We are working on arrangements to have a military funeral at Ft Logan in Denver. I'll let you know when the funeral will be. I'm asking that any who want please write a short story about John. I'd like to share it with everyone and especially his girls Melissa and Sara. They're grown so the stories don't have to be too "clean". He used to sing "she looked so fair in the midnight air with the wind blowing up her nighty" to them when they were little so they are well aware of the fighter/airline pilot sense of humor. Thank you all for your prayers. -Pam Hoffman (8/31/13) I didn't know who would be the best person to contact but knew you would get this in the right hands. John Hoffman (General) and Old FAL passed away this morning @ 0500. His wife, Pam, would love any emails from people who flew or knew John in any way. I was with him yesterday and so glad I was able too see him. I don't know his wife but knew John as several of us did. Could you please relay this message from your end? -Dan Adair (8/31/13) Thanks, Dan, for the info. Ed Woodson, Pam and some others have been posting at FLacebook about John's flight west clearance and departure. I have posted the info you mentioned at the FL Club and FLacebook. Hope you are well, -Jake Lamkins (8/31/13) FLacebook Just found out that a friend of mine and fellow pilot, John Hoffman, passed away today. John Hoffman was the senior man in our Frontier training class on the Convair 580. John was also a ANG Guard pilot in Denver. John and I were sent to Grand Junction to train on the 580, and we had to train in the actual airplane because the simulator did not have motion. Our instructor liked to give John a hard time about flying an antique airplane like the 580 since John was a "jet" pilot. We were flying at night, after the revenue flights were over, and doing stalls and slow flight. The instructor, (won't mention his name) was in the left seat, John was flying from the right seat, and I was on the jumpseat behind them. The instructor was showing us the slow speed and stall characteristics of the 580, and the plane was getting away from him. John took the controls and recovered. It was real quiet in the cockpit for a while and we returned to Grand Junction. The instructor didn't give John a hard time again! John was always professional and courteous, and a joy to be around. Fly West John, rest well and keep the runway clear for the rest of us. -Dan Albers (8/31/13) FLacebook and FL Club: DEN pilot John Hoffman's memorial webpage is posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/John_Hoffman.html -Jake Lamkins (9/9/13)
