Jake (2/13/06) My mame is Joseph A.Tesar the 4th. I was on a search for info regarding my father's death in your obituary section of your website. My Father went missing from his first family in Kansas City back in 1986 and have had no word since. Can you help a broken family get some closure. Thanks again. -Joe Tesar the 4th (9/27/13) Hi Joe, I am doing some checking with the pilots who flew with your dad and will add the new info to your dad's memorial webpage and update it. All I have presently is posted on his webpage. Email me anything you wish added to it, like photos, etc. Best regards, -Jake Lamkins (9/27/13) Hi Phil & Billy et al, Do you have any other info on Joe other than what's at his webpage? http://or2.tripod.com/Joe_Tesar.html -Jake Lamkins (9/27/13) I knew Joe pretty well. He was hired just after I was. We ended up in the same places relative to our seniority which was not much for a while... I recall one night when Joe was a 580 captain as was I. He landed on a slick runway at Hayden & slid off the runway a bit. He was waiting for maintenance when I arrived. Weather was lousy. Slush on the runway. Cross-winds. ...a normal FAL flight! On our flight, the F/O flew the approach and we missed. However, on the miss I could see the runway lights thru the fog-layer. I asked the F/O to shoot another approach and said that at minimums, if I saw the runway again that I would assume control. That's the way it worked out. We touched down and then hit a fog bank. Suddenly we were Zero Zero and I had not yet landed the nose wheel! Had I the presence of mind I would have reached up and swiped off the landing lights. I didn't think to do that. I focused on the instruments and worked to maintain runway heading. We passed thru the fog, stopped and taxied in. When it was time to leave I wanted to check the runway for slush clutter. When we drove out there was a couple of runway lights out. Apparently, I had bumped them with the left main albeit there was no damage. The runway lights were not off to the side of the runway as you'd expect. They were along the edge, but ON the runway! We waited for the next flight with the mechanics. They checked the airplane & all was OK. Soon we were on the way. Later Hugh Thornton went off the same runway! Come to find-out, they had recently over-laid the runway and built a pronounced camber which would cause an aircraft to slide one way or the other depending on the wind when the runway was slick.. Joe, Hugh, and I had to take a sim ride to satisfy the FAA and the Hayden airport got a runway re-work... Joe was a really nice fellow to be around. He was pleasant and, like most of us, loved being Frontier! -Billy Walker (9/27/13) Don't have any info on Joe ... He dropped off my radar scope in '86 also. If I hear anything, I'll forward the word. Phil Stallings (9/28/13) I received the following message from Jake Lamkins in my morning email traffic. Anybody out there have a contact or information on Joe Tesar? His family is looking for him. -Phil Stallings (9/28/13) Hi Joe: My name is Ron Gallop and I flew with your Dad in Kansas City. I have some information on your Dad and the circumstances surrounding his death and would be happy to talk with you. Feel free to call me. -Ron Gallop (9/28/13) Hi Joe: Greetings! I was saddened to hear of your plight. I can appreciate your desire to learn more about the man you were named after. Your Dad was a fine pilot and well thought of. I do not recall any negatives and, from my view, I thought of him as a friend. I think of Joe often. I hope you hear from others who knew him well at Frontier. I will blind copy some who were in his new-hire class, close in seniority, or based with him in case they'd respond as well. -Billy Walker (9/28/13) Billy, Jake and Phil: I just had about an hour long talk with Joe Tesar IV. Good conversation and a really nice kid. A lot like Joe was. I think I was able to answer his questions and bring some closure for him and his sister. Anyway, wanted to bring the three of you up to speed. -Ron Gallop (9/28/13) Ron, Billy & Phil, A BIG thank you to all of you for your help with this. The Frontier Spirit still lives! -Jake Lamkins (9/28/13) The last I heard Joe lived in Detroit and I can not remember if he was still married. He flew out of KC for several years and went with CAL and was based in Cleveland. Retired early as I recall and died in Detroit. Henry Rankin (9/28/13) Thank you Sir. I only have a few pictures from the late 1970 threw the early 1980s. ( I will try to send.) I want to thank all of you for all your kind words about my father. I did not know too much about him so anything will help when I tell his grand kids. I do Remember the first Frontier. And it was a great company but what made it great was the people that always made me and my sister feel at home. It was our Family in the sky. Thank you all so much. -Joe Tesar the 4th.
