JIM PLILER 1961 - 1962 SALES REPRESENTATIVE DEN GJT I received information about another FLamily member who died. Jim Pliler died on February 18, 2005 from heart and kidney problems. Jim was born January 11, 1935 in Baxter Springs, KS and died February 18, 2005 in Pineville, NC (suburb of Charlotte). Jim and I served in the Air Force in San Antonio, TX at Lackland AFB, we were assigned to Officer Military Schools. We knew each for 50 years. In January 1961 he came to Denver to look for work, he just graduated from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. I got him an interview with Frontier, where I had been for two years, Jim was hired as a sales rep. Jim worked in Denver and Grand Junction in sales before leaving in May 1962 to join National Airlines. As you know Bud Maytag sold Frontier and bought National. J. Dan Brock, VP Sales also left and a number of FL sales people joined National. Jim worked in Houston for many years and his last assignment was City Sales Manager in Pensacola, FL. He was in charge of Sales and the airport office for Pan American ( who bought National earlier on). Jim was layed off several months before Pan Am ceased operating. I'm sure there are a lot of the old timers who remember Jim. He and I kept in contact over the years and I am saddened of his passing. In the May-Jun 1961 issue,(FL NEWS), on the page 8 there is a picture of farewell to the agent at the Denver CTO, Ann Williams. Jim is standing behind Elton Snoke. I remembered why I wasn't there was because I was on my honeymoon. -Herb Schmidt (12/14/05) I first met Jim in September 1991. At that time he was the Station Manager for Northwest Airlink Airlines (a/k/a Express Airlines I a/k/a Republic Express) in Montgomery, AL. I think previous to that he might have been in Joplin, MO with Airlink. He hired me as his Supervisor before succumbing to his 3rd seizure about 3 weeks after hiring me. He left Airlink in the spring of 1992 and moved to the Carolina's. For the little time I knew Jim, he was a good and kind man, along with his wife. When I moved from Orlando, FL to Montgomery, AL, he and his wife welcomed my wife and I with open arms and made us feel welcomed. Jim never had a mean bone in his body and was well respected by those that knew him in his later years at Airlink. We will keep Jim and his family in our prayers. -Chuck Dolan, DENRR 1978-1986 (12/15/05) I'm saddened to hear about Jim Pliler. I was in the Denver Sales Department in 1961 when he was hired by Larry Sills. He was a true gentleman with great sense of humor. A friend to those who knew him. With his warm personality he was a real asset to the sales efforts of Frontier back in those days. His open and honest communication with all those he made contact with, customer or casual acquaintance, resulted in friends and travelers for Frontier. My favorite memory of Jim is when he and another Sales Rep took a "FAM" trip on TWA from Denver to Paris over the weekend. They left early on a Friday morning and returned back in Denver late on Sunday evening. On Monday morning when he returned to work, he looked like something the cat had dragged in. He told us he was back but he thought his "rear end" would be home in about three (3) days. Good memories, better days. -Bill Thiets (12/16/05) OBITUARY James Oliver Pliler Mr. Pliler, age 70 of Charlotte passed away Friday February 18th, 2005 at his daughter's home surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed deeply by all that knew him. Mr. Pliler was born in Baxter Springs, Kansas on January 11, 1935. During his life he held Marketing management positions in the airline industry with Pan AM, Northwest Airlink and National... -Charlotte Observer, 2/21/05 Hi Jake, Merry Christmas and a great and happy 2006. You do a great job with this website and I enjoy it every time I'm on it. Just wanted you to know, I contacted Jim Pliler's widow, Mary Kay, this morning and advised her of Jim being in the obits. I told her how to pull it up so she and her daughters could see the FL site. Going through some papers I found a letter from Jim which he sent in Sept 1958 to me while I was finishing up my tour in the AF. I'm so glad I found the letter it meant a lot to me. -Herb Schmidt (12/21/05) Thanks, Herb. Jim's website could use a better pic if you come across one. -Jake Lamkins (12/21/05) Hi Herb, I'm updating Jim Pliler's memorial webpage. I found this photo during a web search. Can you verify that it is Jim? Thanks, -Jake Lamkins (5/4/20) Yes it is.
