JIM HANSON 1949 - 1981 PILOT DEN Jim Hanson fell while going out his door and broke his right hip. In addition, while trying to prevent his fall, he put out his hand and injured same, requiring several sticthes. Janet and I visited him at Rose Hospital yesterday after learning of all this from a call from his daughter. He does NOT have a phone in his room and really couldn't answer one if he did because of his hand... anyway he will be transferred to Aurora Pres. - South Campus in a day or two. He is doing fine but just sore after his hip replacement, etc. -Ace Avakian (9/14/08) J. A. HANSON DEN captain DOB 2/12/21 DOH 12/6/49 Per the Feb 1960 FL Roster -Jake Lamkins (4/29/11) I went to FARPA luncheon today, Willie Hurt was there and also Joanie Fohn. Willie Hurt and Jim Hanson are 2 out of 3 of original Monarch guys left. Can't remember who other one is. Good turn out at luncheon, about 25 people. -Bonnie Dahl (8/9/11) CAPTAIN JIM HANSON! ONE OF THE FINEST MEN, MENTOR'S A PERSON OF CHARACTER AND HONOR! ONE OF THE MANY REASONS FLIGHT CREWS OFTEN WENT THE EXTRA MILE! -Dale Buss (8/25/12) Has Jim flown west? -Jake Lamkins (8/25/12) This seems ominous! Hopefully, Sir Jim is OK! With that in mind, I agree with you 100%. Jim showed me how to "sail" a 737! We taxied into LNK and discovered the ramp to be completely covered with black ice! I have never seen anyone so adroitly handle the thrust levers and reversers such that we sailed perfectly into the parking spot between two UAL 727's. Amazing! Recalling this brings tears to my eyes! Of course he cheated! Jim had accumulated a lot of time flying the ubiquitous PBY "Catalina" as one of the celebrated "Black Cats" during WWII. He had T/R's with FAL that were absent in his Black Cat days... -Billy Walker (8/25/12) Jean Smith Thompson Oh no, hope he hasn't. (8/25/12) Denny Finke Amen. I loved to fly with him. He taught me how to really fly and airplane. (8/25/12) NO, OF COURSE NOT, HE HASN'T BEEN CLEARED FOR TAKE-OFF YET! BUT WITH THE NEWS ABOUT THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEMISE OF FAL ..... GONE BUT NEVER AND NOT FORGOTTON!...I WAS JUST PASSING A TRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE FINEST HUMAN BEINGS I HAD EVER KNOWN..... AND THANX FOR LETTING ME DO SO...GODSPEED AND TAILWINDS... -Dale Buss (8/25/12) I flew with him also, what a great pilot to learn from and what a gentleman!! I'm in Den now, tonight was the happy hour party and tomarrow the picnic. Great seeing all the guys and gals again!! -Ken Larason (8/25/12) I received a call from Mitch Cleveland, Jim's daughter, that he had fallen on Sat, 15 and broke his hip. They put in 3- 6 inch placements. He went into ICU on the 19th but is now doing much better and hopes to be released from ICU maybe tomorrow. He's at Saint Luke Presbyterian. NO VISITORS till further notice. He is doing better, doing as the doctors ask plus more. They have removed a lot of the tubes which makes a huge difference. -Janet Avakian (6/21/13) Janet Avakian called this morning to pass along an update on Captain Jim Hanson (age 92). As you know, he fell and broke his hip at Target recently (2nd one). Unfortunately, he has developed pneumonia and is now in ICU - no visitors except close family. He has a tube down his throat presumably for the pneumonia so he can't speak for now. Jim has an amazing will to stick around with us longer and is doing surprisingly well all things considered! -Billy Walker (6/27/13) Here's a follow up on Jim. He's holding steady and that is good. On same meds and the swelling has gone down in his hands and feet. His numbers are good so at the present all is going well. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers. -Janet Avakian (6/28/13) Just received an update for Tuesday, July 2nd. The tubes have been removed from Jim's throat and he's now breathing on his own but labored. He is not to talk as they want him to concentrate on his breathing. NO VISITORS. Family members one a time for only a few minutes. -Janet Avakian (7/2/13) Dear Frontier Family, It is with a heavy heart and tear filled eyes that I let you know that Capt. Jim has gone West. He passed a few minutes before 4 this afternoon. He went peacefully with his family at his side. Will give more information as soon as possible. Jim was 92. -Janet Avakian (7/2/13) Bonnie Dahl sent nine pix of Jim and co-workers. -Jake Lamkins (7/2/13) GODSPEED and TAILWINDS a Captain of leadership and INTEGRITY fly safely now to the BEST PLACE! -Dale Buss (7/2/13) Condolences to his family and friends from the Cliff Brown family. -Barb Brown (7/2/13) More sad news for the FAL family. I'm sure Jim and Ace will be organizing some get-togethers with all those that have gone before them. RIP Jim. -Joanne Griffin (7/2/13) Such sad news. May he Rest In Peace and as they say, since he has Gone West, he will be with his Comrades in the Sky. God Speed Jim. -Ginger Treptow (7/2/13) Sad to hear this... Just saw Jim last year at the picnic where this picture was taken. -Vicky Veldboon (7/2/13) I am very sad at this news. I really enjoyed flying with and knowing Jim. Fond memories. -Kathleen Dionne (7/2/13) Condolences to the family, great guy! -Christina Bonatti (7/3/13) Jim was a great guy and a good friend.
