JAMES GREER 1958 - 1986 STATION AGENT CYS COS GLD MLC HOT LIT HOU He worked in HOT, CYS, and LIT til Frontier pulled out. He was ill for several years before his death (Lou Gehrig's disease, I believe). -Jake Lamkins (10/10/99) To LIT agents: I've been trying to pin down more info on Jame's date of death. Do any of yall recall about when it was and where he was living at the time. I have a page for him set up at the FL Obituary site but there isn't much info. If I can get an approximate date of death and where he was living, I can probably pin down some info at the Social Security Death Index. -Jake Lamkins (4/21/00) Ref James Greer , Bill Sanders said he died in 85. this all info I could come up with. Billy Ray not on line, but said wife is planning to get computer. Will let us know if and when online -Buddy Griffin (10/17/00) In the first issue you had the list of deaths of Frontier agents. On James Greer you had -"need info". I can give you that. I am James' widow. James passed away October 1, 1986. He was 50 1/2 years old. He died of complications of Lou Gehrig's disease. He was diagnosed in January, 1986, and went down fast; especially after Frontier's bankruptcy in August, 1986. That broke his spirit and he literally gave up. I thought I would pass on a couple of tales I remember that James had told me. He was working ramp one day in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and sat what he thought was a hat box on top of luggage on the cart. It bounced off and came open when it hit the ramp; out came a wig, the head form, and LOTS of pins. Of course, the wind was blowing and they went in all directions. James said he felt like every passenger that got off the flight was watching as he chased the wig and head form down. He said he'd never seen so many pins. In 1968 with ten years with the company, James was low man in seniority in HOT when the station was cut a man. He went to Cheyenne, Wyoming. He told me about the first flight arrival he announced that first day on the job in Cheyenne. It was flight 595. By the time he finished the announcement, the counter was swamped with agents from the other airlines wanting to see the "southern boy". I would like to hear from some of the guys James worked with in the different stations. -Geraldine Greer (5/31/01) I knew about James a while back. He died before Hank. -Tom Gramlick (5/31/01) James started with Central in Sept.,1958. From Cheyenne we went to Colorado Springs, from there to Goodland,Ks. From Goodland to McAlister,OK, then back to HOT in July,1975. When they closed the station here, James worked in LIT, then went to HOU when LIT closed. He was never happy anywhere but here. -Geraldine Greer (6/6/01) I do not have a scanner, so find enclosed a picture of James. It was taken in the Spring of 1986 before he started going down so fast from Lou Gehrig's disease. I do not need the picture back. Also enclosed is a copy of a picture I thought you might find interesting. It was taken in September 1967, before the changeover to Frontier. It is the five guys that worked HOT together for so many years. -Geraldine Greer (6/12/01) Note with photo: This is at Hot Springs, in May 1968. That's James Greer facing toward the rear of the Convair 580. The man looking up the ramp is unidentified, but may be Jeff Gilbert. Take care. -Stephen R. Strauss (1/23/03) Thank you for letting me know about James Greer. I'm sure his wife will appreciate the photo memory. James waited on me the first time I flew Central in November 1965. He was always nice. Jim Sledge sometimes waited on me; I remember he liked to crack jokes. Besides them and Jeff Gilbert, there was a dark-complected agent there whose name I don't remember. Perhaps you know who he was. That's it for now. -Stephen R. Strauss CN passenger & fan from HOT (He sent photo of HOT ramp & James dated 1968) (1/28/03) He came to LIT when HOT closed and made the drive up every day - he never moved from HOT. He rode with Bill Sanders and James Greer - they traded off on driving a lot. James is deceased and I guess Bill is still in HOT. When LIT closed Bill Sanders retired, James Greer went to HOU and Lewis and I went to OKC. -Jack Chambers (2/4/08) J B GREER Station agent seniority date of 9/2/58, emp# 03279, on the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (2/4/08) My worked for Frontier Airlines for over 20 years. He had been transferred several times and the last move we made was to Hot Springs, Arkansas. When Frontier pulled out of Hot Springs (6/15/79), my dad was very upset. He took a transfer to Little Rock and began driving back and forth. It was just about an hours drive, so it wasn't all that bad. We adjusted pretty well to it. Then they pulled out of Little Rock (10/1/84). Now the debate was how to deal with it. My parents decided to not move; my dad really loved it in Hot Springs, so he took a job with Frontier in Houston. He took our camper down and would work ten days straight, then drive home for his four days off. This was very hard on all of us. I can't remember how long this lasted, but it lasted for a long time. Until Dad's diagnosis. My sophomore year in high school, in January, 1986, Dad was diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. Talk about a slap in the face. It moved very quickly and by October of 1986, my junior year, Dad was gone. Our lives were turned upside down. -Jamie Greer Burke (1/15/09) I worked with James when I moved from reservations in DEN to HOU station agent. It was a major transition and he was always so kind and helpful to me. I will always remember James and Hank laughing and having a good time. The one thing I remember most was how much he missed his family in HOT. I hope his family is doing well... -Mary Henderson Hardey (10/17/10) J B GREER Emp# 03279 DOB 2/17/36 DOH and station agent seniority date of 9/2/58 per the Oct 1986 FL/ALEA Seniority List. -Jake Lamkins (9/16/16) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: James Greer CYS COS GLD MLC HOT LIT HOU station agent James Greer's memorial webpage has been updated: http://FAL-1.tripod.com/James_Greer.html Several items added but still need an obituary for James. -Jake Lamkins (9/16/16)
