JACK SANDBURG 1954 - 1972 STATION AGENT, RELIEF AGENT ISN GDV MOT OMA Jack Sandberg, who was a relief agent based out of Minot was also a nail biter. When I first started, Feb. 1,1965, in Glendive, Jack was working relief there. We did wx observations, worked the f-drop getting clearances, etc. One day while waiting for the Doug to arrive, Jack was so nervous that he had one cigarette burning in the ashtray, and one in each hand. He didn’t know which one to puff on. A great guy though. He would do anything in the world for you if he liked you. He used to make Leon Northrup, who was the station manager in Minot, so mad. Back then, Leon, as well as most everybody else, used to live from paycheck to paycheck. Jack would have 4 or 5 paychecks laying in the safe at MOT. Leon couldn’t take that. At one time, the company got on Jack to cash his checks so that they could get the books straightened out. -Darrell Robson (3/29/99) J M SANDBURG ISN station agent Per the Nov 1955 employees roster. ---------------------------------- J M SANDBURG Emp# 07700 MOT station agent DOB 4/24/29 DOH 8/25/54 Address at YMCA in Minot, ND Per the Feb 1960 employees roster ---------------------------------- J M SANDBERG Station agent seniority date of 12/13/54 Per the Mar 1962 & Aug 1966 station agents seniority lists. ---------------------------------- J M SANDBURG Emp# 07700 OMA relief agent DOB 4/24/29 DOH 8/25/54 Address in Williston, ND Per the Dec 1970 employees roster. ---------------------------------- I cannot find him on the Jan 1974 seniority lists nor is he in the Nov 1984 employees roster. He does not appear on the 20 years service anniversary list for Aug 1974 either. So, I'll guess he left the company about 1972. -Jake Lamkins (8/18/21) Email to Darrell Robson Hi Darrell, Hope this finds you well and covid-free. I'm doing some research on Jack Sandberg. Back on Mar 29, 1999 you posted about him. Do you recall anything else about him like what his full name was, was Jack a nickname for John, etc? He is shown as J M Sandberg on the seniority lists. I find him in the 1970 employee roster but he disappears after that. When did he leave the company? Found out Jack flew west in 1996 at age 67. Any info appreciated. -Jake Lamkins (8/18/21) Hi Jake, Staying pretty healthy. Wife and I both had the COVID back in January/February, but have recovered just fine. As far as Jack, I don’t have anything further about him other than if he liked you, he’d give you the shirt off his back. I know that Ed Manning was wanting to buy a new car, probably in 1966 or so, and Jack insisted on giving Ed the money for it. I can’t remember if Ed took him up on it or not, but that’s the kind of guy Jack was. If you have any contact info on Ivan Newell, he may be able to provide some information. Jack was from ISN, and Ivan was the manager there. Jack’s family owned some oil wells in the Williston area, which was another reason he didn’t really need a paycheck. -Darrell Robson (8/19/21) FLacebook Frontier Memorial Webpage Posted JACK SANDBURG 1954 - 1972 STATION AGENT, RELIEF AGENT ISN GDV MOT OMA http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Jack_Sandberg.html Still need a photo and obituary for Jack Post your remembrances of him.
