HUGH BARRON 1955 - 1986 PILOT FTW ACF GSW DAL DFW DEN Father of flight attendant Renee Barron H C Barron Jr shown with a hire date of 10/6/55 on the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (4/1/06) I remember Hal Grogg to be a kind and gentle man who never complained about anything. Once when Hal and I attempted a takeoff from Muskogee, Okla the crosswind was more than the DC-3 could handle. We went down the runway and every time the tail came up we almost ran off the runway. We went the entire length of the runway and stopped. I said "OK Groggy, we will take off from this end. You handle the throttles and I will wrap the ailerons all the way over". I looked up and a man was standing right inside the unlocked door and said "I want to get off this airplane." Hal died of cancer at about age 40. His weight went from 180 to about 80 pounds in six months. The good men sometimes vanish like the butterfly at the end of summer. -Hugh Barron (5/7/10) Hugh_Barron Pic about 1985 This pic was in the middle 80s just before Frontier was taken over by Continental Airlines. My career spanned 45 years and 4 different airlines. posted by hugh at 6:53 PM Other text on webpage: I was 22 when I became a copilot at Central Airlines. Dick Cottingham was one of 52 captains who were veterans of WWII. I didn't realize how fortunate I was to get my training from these, the finest pilots on the face of the earth. Dick was shot down 6 times, yet he climbed back into a TBM and continued to fight the enemy. They wouldn't talk much about their combat experiences. I paid attention to the stories that they did share and considered myself in great company.
