HOWARD SCHATZ 1974 - 1986 SALES REPRESENTATIVE, MANAGER-FLIGHT SERVICE, COORDINATOR-OFFLINE AGENCY SALES, STATION MANAGER, SALES MANAGER, MANAGER-AGENCY AND INTERLINE AFFAIRS SLC SCK GUP SNA DEN HOWARD L SCHATZ PARK CITY UT 58 -US Search (8/14/04) Howard Schatz added you as a friend on Facebook. "Damn, Jake, you just keep getting better lookin. And I see in your profile you went to U.Hawaii. I was there for one year 65-66. We gots to talk. H.". (4/17/10) Jake - I've attached some additional photos I took yesterday at the SLC celebration. One shot of each group - Pilots, Station Agents, and Flight Attendants. FYI - My time in SLC was from 1974 thru 1976 - one year as the Manager of the F/A base (50 F/As), and two years as a Sales Rep. working for Jim Judd. I stayed with Frontier another 10 years (until the last day) in various operational and sales assignments. Keep up the good work with all the old memories. And by the way, I was just looking at your Facebook info., and I was surprised to learn you went to the U. of Hawaii. I was there one year - '65/66 (mostly surfing, but I did take two full semesters of classes) - and then I transferred back to San Jose State earning a BA with a Secondary Teaching Credential in 1969. No teaching jobs in 1969, so I started work in SFO with Qantas as a Traffic Agent, and the rest is a long, long story... Anyway, small world. -Howard Schatz (6/19/11) Hi Howard, Thanks so much for the great pix. Amazingly enough, I too was at the U of Hawaii 1965-66, mostly surfing! Small world, indeed. Always good to hear from you. I still remember my visit to SNA when you were manager there and how kind you were. Hope you're enjoying retirement as much as I. -Jake Lamkins (6/20/11) Jake, I'd like to know how to contact Howard Schatz. He was the Station Manager when I worked at SNA. Thanks. -Harry Sparks (6/20/11) Hi Harry, Howard's eddress is hschatzpc@gmail.com -Jake Lamkins (6/21/11) The agent in the photo is Dennis Killip - one of the best Senior Agents a Station Mgr. could ever wish for. Great Ops guy, always dependable, and fantastic with people. Dennis is currently working for UPS in Whitefish, MT (remember FCA?), and he is on Facebook. Give him my very best if you talk w/him. -Howard Schatz (11/17/11) Jake - I've attached an early architectural rendering of Frontier's Headquarters/Maintenance building - 8250 Smith Rd. I found the photo recently in a folder I keep of FL "memories". I'm not sure when the rendering was produced, but according to an old PR fact sheet (also kept in my FL folder) that covered company highlights from 1950-1986: "The (Frontier) employee population in 1968 numbers 3,450 and the fleet includes five 727-191s, twenty-two CV580s, eleven CV-600s, seventeen DC-3s ... and a new $10 million Denver Operations Base is opened at Stapleton International Airport." In any event, you may already have this photo (and you probably have better records), but, just in case I thought I'd forward it to you to add to your FL memorabilia collection. -Howard Schatz (4/25/13) Thank you, Howard, for the great rendering and the statistics. Hope you are enjoying retirement as much as I am. Regards, -Jake Lamkins (4/25/13) FLacebook Howard is 70 years old today. H L SCHATZ M DOB 9/14/45 DOH 8/8/74 per the Dec 1984 FL Pension Records. -Jake Lamkins (9/14/15) FLacebook Howard Schatz I left Frontier (based in Denver) in 1986 just before it merged with Continental and Texas Air. I had been selected for a Sales job with Air New Zealand three weeks before the merger. I was with Air New Zealand (Los Angeles, Honolulu & Utah postings) for 15 years, and I took an "early-out" offer in 2001 to try something different with Deer Valley Resort in Park City. Meanwhile, "Frontier" went through many transformations with multiple owners, and I have no connection with their current sorry-ass operation. Tom Schmidt I helped him open Stockton by doing sales and teaching weight and balance and the ticket counter. I then helped him open Orange County doing the same things. We worked together in Salt Lake. I found out through one of his friends. I spent a lot of time with him opening new stations. The nicest man I've ever met. Rest in Peace Howard. Jake Lamkins I last saw him about 1983 when I did a station visit while ALEA Master Chairman. Great guy! Hauled me all over the place showing their operation, fixed the air freight farmout problem, met all the agents, then took me to lunch. (12/14/23) Don't find him in the Nov 1977 and Nov 1978 QRDs. Lots of antics between GUP and ABQ when Howard first got there. I can't remember what started it, but I do remember we stuffed the belly pit of a 580 full of tumbleweeds on a flight back to GUP and that was it - game on. What a wonderful man. (12/19/23) Fred Watson R.I.P Howard (12/20/23) Dear Jake, By now you have probably heard of Howard Schatz' passing on December 12, 2023 at the age of 78, in Park City UT. According to the medical examiner, Howard died suddenly from a heart attack late on the evening of the 12th, though his body wasn't discovered until later the next day around 11am or so. I'm not sure how this works as far as posting a death notice on to the Old Frontier Fb page. As you know, Howard was with Frontier Airlines for many years. As a station agent, in marketing and in sales. I dont have dates or exact job descriptions. Is this something that you can help with? Should I post Howard's passing on or is that done by you? Thanks so much, -Jan Modisette Brictson (12/21/23) Hi Jan, My condolences as I know Howard was a good friend. I last saw him at SNA in about 1983 when I was ALEA Master Chairman. We solved an air freight farmout problem and he took me to lunch. I was very impressed by him and we kept up intermittently via email over the years. There have been some posts already about his flight west but feel free to post something of your own at FLacebook. -Jake Lamkins (12/22/23) FLacebook Post Jan Modisette Brictson Howard Schatz 1942-2023 It's with a heavy heart that I inform everyone of Howard Schatz's passing on the evening of December 12, 2023 from an apparent heart attack in Park City, Utah. Howard worked for Frontier Airlines for over 11 years, starting in 1974 in SLC, as an Inflight Supervisor. He held various positions at FL from station manager in SNA, SCK and GUP to Sales and Marketing at the GO. In 1985, Howard moved to LAX to work for Air New Zealand in Sales/Marketing and stayed with Air NZ until his retirement. He retired to his favorite town of Park City, UT where he worked on the Ski Patrol and later as a Mountain Ski Host at Deer Valley. Howard participated in various IronMan triathlons over the years as well. He loved running, hiking, skiing and biking. Howard was a prince of a man, always polite, self deprecating, ready to offer a hand up to anyone that needed it, trustworthy and loved by all. Gone but not Forgotten. (12/24/23) Beverly Cummiskey Truly a loved gentleman Gretchen Densley Such a nice guy!! Sharon Trumble Howie you were the best! RIP my good good man Mark Vitale This is the gentleman I've been looking for. I was lucky enough to work for him when the jet mates stopped working in Denver. Bonnie Dahl God Bless you Howard Pam Coffman Ellis So very sorry to here this. He was a great guy. Prayers for his family and friends. (12/24/23) Hi Jan, I've started working on Howard's memorial webpage. Have you seen an obituary yet? My online search turned up nothing. I checked his Facebook page too. Our lives at our age are full of death. Three days ago my longtime Frontier friend aircraft mechanic Bill Guthrie flew west. He texted me when he went in the hospital. I've been averaging about 8 Frontier deaths per month and I know almost all of them from my years as ALEA Master Chairman. -Jake Lamkins (12/26/23) Jan Modisette Brictson Messenger on 12/27/23 Oh Jake, I'm so sorry about Bill Guthrie. Though I didn't know him or as many people at Frontier as you did, I can relate to losing near and dear friends. We are all leaking oil and the leaks are getting numerous. Howard's niece in CA is working on his obituary and told me she would share it when it is ready. She plans to post it in the San Jose Times and one in Park City. No word on if there will be a memorial service yet. I am in contact with his sister in TX and his brother in CA and will reach out when I hear more. Please take care, ok?
