HELEN COONS MILLER 1956 - 1957 FLIGHT ATTENDANT, CHIEF FLIGHT ATTENDANT BIL DEN Helen Coons Miller was a stew in Billings and Denver, she married Capt. D. K. Miller. I read that she died but I haven't seen anything else on her, so perhaps you should hold on to the photo until you receive confirmation. -Al Kendell (2/17/00) Here is a photo of Helen Coons Miller, she was a chief stew in Billings, and Denver. I believe she is dead but I do not have an obit. With her is Capt. D. K Miller, in about 1963. -Al Kendell (8/25/02) Posted at FL Club 8/31/02 Deke & Helen Miller: I understand Deke was married to Helen Coons(sp?) Miller who had been a chief stew at BIL & DEN. Did she die before Deke or is she still alive? Any info appreciated so I can update the obituaries. -Jake Lamkins Helen (Miller) passed away many years ago - cancer. Can't remember the exact dates but Ken Schultz might know. -Ace Avakian (8/31/02) I have a few corrections to your obituary page. Flight Attendant Helen Coons Miller, was born April 5, 1934 in Roosevelt, Utah. She "Went West" July 28, 1996 as a result of colon cancer. Also, she was not chief stew in Denver. She helped found a charter airline, Mountain West, in 1973. I worked for Helen as a stew for Mountain West until it dissolved a short time later. Helen was president of the Ex-Stew club, Silent Flyers, until her death in 1996. The club has since disbanded. -Julie Santangelo Grinstead, FAL 1957-62 Stew 1959-62 (1/7/03) Thank you very much for the additional info on Helen. Do you know the span of time she worked at FL? Any other info that I can add to her memorial webpage? -Jake Lamkins (1/8/03) Thank you for the newsletter info. These dates are from memory, but very close to correct. The FL time spans for Helen: Helen Coons Miller c.1955-60. -Julie Santangelo Grinstead, (1/8/03) HELEN J MILLER 05 Apr 1934 28 Jul 1996 Age 62 At 80233 (Denver, Adams, CO) -SSDI (1/11/03) Have you ever heard of the Silent Flyers? This was a group of former stews that was formed in 59/60 and I got to at least ONE meeting, but lost track of all the ladies who were in it. I wonder if anyone else in the FL group knows or remembers anything about what happened to the group and the people in it? -Mary Pat Langdon Simpson (1/1/09) Yes, I've heard of the Silent Flyers. It's mentioned in several of the FL FA memorial webpages. See Mary Warhover Pover, Jody Colquitt Binkley and Helen Coons Miller memorial webpages. Helen was president of the group at one time. FL FA Julie Santangelo Grinstead emailed the club is disbanded. -Jake Lamkins (1/2/09) Helen is not on the Nov 1955 FL Roster. Nor is she on the Feb 1960 FL Roster. She would have quit flying when she married Deke in 1957 due to the stewardess rules at the time. And she started after the Nov 1955 FL Roster so I will show her service dates as 1956 - 1957 until info otherwise is received. I cannot find whether she was Helen Coons or Helen Taylor when she was a stewardess so I will use Coons since that is the reference made by Al Kendell. -Jake Lamkins (11/28/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: BIL DEN flight attendant Helen Coons Miller's memorial webpage has been updated. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Helen_Miller.html Six items added and improvements made to the webpage. -Jake Lamkins (11/28/12) I was a new-hire in 1967. I was driving a cool ol' 40 Ford pick-up with oak rails. I was a young bachelor with my head turning this way and that with all the lovely FAL stews running around. I had met Deke Miller when I was sales manager for Roach Aircraft at Jefferson County Airport. I ran into him in the crew room on the old "A" concourse at DEN. He mentioned that his wife, Helen, had a really cool 67 fiery red Chevy Camero convertible for sale. I drove over to see it. I looked at that beautiful nearly new convertible and then at my ol' pickup and back at the convertible. Then I calculated the number of FAL stews who would want to ride in the pickup VS that fiery red convertible and cut a deal with Helen. She was a sweet lady and I always liked Deke too. They were fun to be with. It was sad when she passed in 1996 and again in 2002 when Deke had Gone West. Later, after Cheryl and I were together, Joe Rhorda traded me his '67 4-door T-bird for the Camero. I was no longer chasing stews and the T-bird was a nice car for longer trips. Joe bought it back when I went on MLOA for the SE Asia War Games in 1971. I had hopes of buying it back when I returned. Sadly, it was totaled in a wreck and that didn't happen. Geez, the memorial page for Helen Miller really joggled the memories! -Billy Walker (11/28/12) Nothing on Helen Taylor or Helen Coons in my 1955-57 Sunliner News. Coons is her mother's name but Taylor was her father's name. I found her mother's obituary and it reads: "She moved to Utah as a young woman and married Roy Taylor in 1933 in Salt Lake City. They later separated and divorced. She married Clarence Coons on Oct. 26, 1938 in Salt Lake City" -Jake Lamkins (2/14/20) FLacebook - FL Club FLight West: Helen Coons Miller BIL DEN flight attendant Helen Coons Miller's memorial webpage has been updated at http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Helen_Miller.html A few items added and the webpage tidied up. Still need an obituary for her. Post your remembrances of her. -Jake Lamkins (2/15/20)
