GEORGE SIMS 1947 - 1981 PILOT SLC DEN SERVICE AWARDS 30 Years Hoffman R.G. - Captain. DEN Keene, E.R. - Director of flight control, DEN Sims, G.L. - Captain, DEN -Frontier News, Jun 1977 G. L. SIMS George written in PHX Capt DOB 2/11/21 DOH 6/1/47 Per Feb 1960 FL Roster -Jake Lamkins (5/3/11) Gloria Wamsley phoned me seeking info on FL and we had a delightful conversation. She left in 1983 or 84 and was based in DEN her entire career. She will be 65 later this year. Her favorite pilot was George Sims and she had found a webpage where he was sued for something in 1976. She said it had to do with him flying by Old Faithful and some people were hurt by turbulence. She will send me the URL. -Jake Lamkins (6/13/12) I found one more photo from PHX picnic of Capt George Simms. I told him Patty couldn't make it because of price of ticket and he said he would have bought her a ticket to PHX. He's doing great. Invited us to come stay with him. -Bonnie Dahl (11/13/12) FLacebook posting of George at 2014 PHX Reunion: George Sims looked great -Ginger Treptow (11/10/14) Another face I still remember. Hi, George. -Penny Scott Overdier (11/14/14) Looking good! 93 years old. -Jake Lamkins (11/14/14) can't believe he is 93, looks great, he was always busy -Ruth Pitts (11/14/14) Handsome devil. -Bonnie Dahl (11/14/14) He lives off of Shea and Scottsdale road and don't drive but keeps active and we chat now and then. I'm going to have sunday lunch with him after the Holidays. Always been a swell friend. He keeps busy working the Trading Marke on his computer. Keeps him alert and still has a good mind. Always was a good looking man and a real gentleman. He misses Marion a great deal, she was such a sweet lady. -Ginger Treptow (11/15/14) FLacebook On a sad note, we just received news that George Sims Sr. passed away last nite in PHX. I don't have a lot of info, just wanted to let everyone know, lots of folks knew George. -Richard Wade (11/10/15) Sorry to hear that. Thanks for alerting us to his FLight West. He was 94 years old. Here is a pic of him from Bonnie Dahl's book. -Jake Lamkins (11/10/15) Re: Captain George Sims RIP George, It is such SAD news to our Frontier friends in the passing of your father. Captain George Sims was one of the BEST of the BEST. He was revered and his memory will live long after his having Gone West. His departure shocked me! I thought he would outlive you and me! What a truly amazing fellow George was. Pilot extraordinare, all-round good fellow, and a friend to all of us fortunate to have known him. I am one truly blessed for having his friendship since 1967 when I helped him load a couple of tires on the 580 out of Phoenix. You and your family are in our thoughts even knowing your Dad is on his flight enjoyin' smooth air, warm-soft tailwinds, and a bright star to steer by... -Billy Walker (11/10/15) Sorry to hear.... Praying for Family and Friends. -Al Beardsley (11/10/15) Sad news about a great man. George was a first class person, pilot, friend. Sorry to hear of his passing. -Joanne Griffin (11/10/15) George was a lot of fun to fly with. I will never forget the brush he carried to clean off the radio heads on the center console. Anybody else remember this? I last saw George a few years ago in PHX at the memorial service for Brad Hurd. -Tom Robertson (11/10/15) We have been friends and he attended every reunion held in Phoenix. He also flew to DEN for theirs. It will be a tremendous loss. May he Rest In Peace. -Ginger Treptow (11/10/15) Always enjoyed Captain Simms, when he came to town. -Jim Oby (11/10/15) Capt Simms is the epitome of what every Capt should look like... Besides,,, in the cockpit,,, he was The Consummate Professional.... What a loss,,, I looked up to him for 40+ years... During and after his flying career ... I'll also miss his investment advice... May G-d rest his soul... And I wish his family well in dealing with this loss, but rest assured his life touched us all With Deepest Sympathy, -Dave Kaplan (11/12/15) George had many friends in the Valley and was well known and liked. He also owned a Tire business years ago. -Ginger Treptow (11/13/15) Subject: Re: George L. Sims Sr. George, Obituary, services, or? I've had several questions as such in the last couple of days. Understandable! Your Dad was revered! -Billy Walker (11/14/15 Private Family Service at cemetery Nov.16th. -George Sims Jr (11/14/15) I just got another call from his son George Jr. He broke his hip when he fell 10/25, he had surgery, but his heart acted up and they kept him longer, but then went to Rehab at Pueblo Norte (where he lived). His heart again caused problems and he wasn't getting enough oxygen so back in the hospital and he never came out the hospital that time. He passed away 11/9. They are doing no public burial, just private and for family. He'll be buried Monday at St Francis Cemetery in Phoenix where his wife is buried. He will be missed as I considered him a good friend and I went twice to see him when he moved to Pueblo Norte in Scottsdale. He really was a 'true blue" friend and always happy and we had so much fun going to lunch together. When he lived off of Camelback and 21 St. we would meet up with Dale and Betty Flowers and Shirley Ganis at the Miracle Mile Deli and talk over good times. -Bonnie Dahl (11/15/15) GEORGE SIMS SLC captain per the Jul 15, 1948 Challenger Airlines Employees Directory. --------------------------------------------------------------------- G L SIMS Pilot seniority date of 6/1/47 per the Sep 1972 Frontier Pilots Seniority List. --------------------------------------------------------------------- FAL GEORGE L SIMS ALPA# 0089920 DOB 02/11/21 DOH 06/01/47 RET 02/11/81 per the FL/ALPA Roster. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't have a copy of the Feb 1981 FL NEWS to check for an article about George's retirement.
