GENE MCCALEB 1957 - 1986 PILOT MKC DEN DAUGHTER KIM AND WIFE ANN SKIDMORE WERE BOTH FRONTIER FLIGHT ATTENDANTS Gene used to have a pristine little Cessna 172 near MCI. Years and years ago, he loaned it to me so that I could fly Cheryl's Mom and sister over to Mexico, MO. It was a lovely spring day with clear skies and calm winds when we took off. Everything went well until about 100 feet off the runway when I quickly discovered Cheryl's sister, Helen, had a problem with claustrophobia. Cheryl's Mom was a tad on the large size and couldn't turn around to help me restrain Helen, who by this time had become a close kin to a JAC bobcat! I would bet Helen's snarlin,' hissin,' and scratchin' woulda put that ol' bobcat to shame... Somehow I was able to get turned around and on the ground without damaging this lovely little airplane. ...we drove to Mexico. Thanks again Gene. You conjured up an old memory and a bit of post traumatic stress syndrome! -Billy Walker (3/20/04)l An article in the May 1964 CN Skywriter says McCaleb is a MKC based pilot. -Jake Lamkins (8/17/06) I never knew Glenn Cox's first wife. Kathy was from Poteau OK. She did a few filmed commercials for CN. Quiet a looker. I had planned on coming up to FSM for the get together but timing was all wrong. I might mention than my wife Ann Skidmore was a CN stew; she and Judy Craddick started at the same time and both were friends in Midland. Right after we were married Judy and Tony Worden got together. We were able to get together when Tony came down to HOU for surgery. I'd sure enjoy seeing everyboby again. Maybe next year. -Gene McCaleb (9/2/07) Kim McCaleb-Austin here, ex F/A...and I everyone knows my father Capt. Gene McCaleb, and being in the airline industry my entire life since birth I know alot of stories/ or of heard of alot of them. When I was flying, I witnessed most of you pilots taking naps. Maybe not an 'all and all sleep'' which sounds like Pappy, but I will bet you donuts to dollars that all the ex F/A 's will agree with me. The Pappy story was wonderful to see for a change. I get terrified to open new FL Digest letters because most of them are deaths...how depressing. I think we need to hear more good stories about our past. I know we are all getting older and its a fact of life that we live and die....but we need good stories also. By the way...my dad will not like me saying this but he will be 80yrs old in May. He looks fantastic and still has his wits, great personality, funny.... sometimes. .. loves his football and baseball.... still a K.C fan.... and keeps very active. I'm so proud of him! -Kim McCaleb Austin (9/3/07) Kim - Don't know if you will remember me or not.....Tom Hollister... I am so glad to hear your dad is doing so gud. If I cud be so lucky! As a co-pilot I thought of him as one of the really gud guys to fly with. Send him my best and wishes for many happy returns..... even though I'm a Cowboys fan. -Tom Hollister (9/4/07) W G MCCALEB Pilot seniority date, #14, of 11/18/57 on the 9/1/86 FL/ALPA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (9/4/07) Ms. Kim....did not know you or your brothers.... .or brother...anyway. .. in Amarillo in about 1961..62.... I recived a messege form someone at a hospital... wanting me to find Gene and tell him he had a son... found him in Garden City or somewhere in the middle of nowhere... told him to get is butt back to AMA....that was an interesting night..... he was a gentleman... .that I remember.... -Gary Mackie (9/6/07) Hi Jake- re DC-3 starting, Dell Booth and I were in Sherman,1958 with dead batts, nite time. Dell and two agents joined hands and pulled the prop thru while I was in the cockpit. I didn't think it would work but it did & we continued to DAL. Kind of scarry though. -Gene McCaleb (4/28/09) Dad's surg for his laminectomy sched for 09/17 was cancelled. He is having to return to his cardiologist on Monday.... say some prayers for him please!! Blessings!! -Kim McCaleb Austin (9/1/17) Attention all Prayer Warriors....please pray for my father Gene McCaleb, as he is in the hospital with internal bleeding issues. He is having a couple procedures in the morning. This is pretty scary stuff! He's already had 3 units of blood today, a 4th in a couple hrs, and 2bags of packed platelets.... I hope the docs find out wher he's bleeding and can repair it!!! -Kim McCaleb Austin (10/13/17) My dad, Capt Gene McCaleb isn't doing well, congestive heart failure amongst other issues that snuck up on him recently and he is pretty down , frustrated more than anything, but I believe he would love to hear from some people who knew him.... he has a Facebook page but rarely gets on the computer. But I can check it for him and he can read it himself... I think he would enjoy hearing and reminiscing from some FLolks... his mind is still pretty sharp and he will be 90 in May.
