Jake, it's possible Gary Winn was your driver. He flew ol' Shaky a lot! -Billy Walker (7/16/13) Emily was my first officer on one of her first 737 flights (about 1981). A Denver TV station was on board to film us. I left the cockpit door open during start and push-back and let them film her (try and do that today!!). After DEN-LAX they interviewed me at LAX. Thankfully, Emily sent me a copy of that tape. We overnighted at OKC and she had to hurry to the Hotel because of a phone interview she had scheduled. The last time I saw Emily was in DEN at United's Sim building (late 90's time frame). She was working for the FAA and I was giving pilots a Sim check ride. A happy reunion. ....we hugged and reminisced that past event years ago.....She was a 'one and only' great gal!! History setting times back then. -Gary Winn (7/12/14) Jake, Do you have contact details for Gary Wynn? He was a SLC Captain. Let me know when you have time. Thanks, -Tom Hollister (10/9/17) Tom, Last I have is Gary A. BG Parry Greenwood flew with me to Nam on my first Combat Support mission there in the C-97 (1966). Parry was giving me a flight check. I just was promoted to Captain and Aircraft Commander, and Parry was a Lt Col at that time. It took 15 days in that aircraft to complete the mission from SLC and back. I was on active duty for that year and flew back and forth with 3 days off at home and then back for another 15 days, eat sleep and fly....went on for the entire year. It was the worst one of all my 17 combat support missions there. We landed at DaNang at dusk into a fire-fight and heavy traffic....what a mess. 'Charlie' was bombing the base with motors (mortars?) and the F-4's were dropping napalm all around the base perimeter, and Puff (C-47) was firing their Gatling gun on Charlie's positions, what a site....it was like the Fourth of July fireworks. Our airplane got hit by ground fire when we were on final approach...about 4 feet to the left of my fanny. We parked in a sandbag area, off and on-loaded our cargo quickly, patched the hole and flew out quickly into total darkness now, so the explosions were even more spectacular to watch and I might say my pucker factor was high. They wanted us out fast not to lose the aircraft to the intense attack. It was hard to keep my mind on flying as I had a hard time not to watch all the activity and explosions. BTW: When we went into Ops to file our flight plan back to the Philippines, an F-4 pilot, 1st Lt, that just landed from a napalm mission, had lost his wingman to ground fire and he did not know if he ejected or not and was safe. I was sitting next to him in the Van when info came over the loudspeaker that his wingman did not get out and was killed. I'll never, never forget the look on his face as he broke down. Like losing your brother. That vivid memory has stayed with me even to today. -Gary Winn Lt.Col- USAFR ret. (12/23/22) This is Kenda, Gary's wife.
