GARY SMITH 1976 - 1986 STATION AGENT PUB DEN COS HUSBAND OF DEN ACCOUNTING CLERK BETTY SMITH FLacebook post Dearest friends and family, As some of you already know, Gary went in for a treadmill test and was then referred to a hospital where one thing led to another and within 20 hours he had triple bypass surgery. He did very well and we are praising God because his condition was one that he would not have been aware of until he had what would have been a fatal heart attack. His combination of conditions is known as "the widow maker". So God blessed us so much with finding it before he had an event. I must go but will keep you all updated. Please pray for him to have a steady and complete recovery and also for his pain in the coming days. Our love to all of you and God is Great! Love Betty, Angie, Alaura, Dan, Marla, and Bailey (bear) Smith PS home phone is 303 254 4768 If you call I will get back to you as soon as possible -Betty Smith (5/4/05) From: "Gary Smith" To: ExFAL@yahoo.com Subject: Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 19:06:57 -0600 Gone West! Ric Smith, DEN Station Agent, 11-22-07, Age 60, Alzheimer's Thanks for letting me know about Ric. Are you his son? Can you send an obituary? photo? I'll be making up a memorial page for him at the Frontier Airlines website. I'm sorry to hear of your loss - I knew Ric from 1984-86 when I worked in DEN. I'll let his other friends know. Jake Lamkins (3/10/08) I worked with Ric Smith in DEN. We called each other "Cuz" because of the "Smith". I was 1976 PUB 1977 DEN Senior Agent 1979 COS 1981-1986 DENOO. I will send you his funeral announcement. -Gary Smith (3/11/08) Hi Jake. I ran into a former FL guy you might know. He said he didn't remember you but would be interested in the FLamily! His name is Norm Teltow and he said FSM had been home. He did not know there were still FL functions going on. I'm a cop and was at his business at Front Range Airport (he paints aircraft) and I stood there dumbfounded while he told a customer how he once started a DC-3 with a 120' rope and a belt loader. -Gary Smith (4/23/09) GARY R SMITH FT SA Emp# 12834 Per DEN station roster dated 8/9/86 G R SMITH Station agent seniority date of 6/17/76, emp# 12834, on the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (4/23/09) Hi Gary, Thanks for the info about Norm. I recall him well and he was quite a character. I've heard several stories about starting DC-3s with ropes and straps. I'll email Norm & reconnect with him. How long have you been a cop? Did you go into it right after FL? -Jake Lamkins (4/23/09) I eventually got a job with the City of Denver at Stapleton as part of the business office in 1989, transferred to Denver Police dispatcher at Stapleton in 1991 and then started as a Deputy Sheriff with the Adams County Sheriff's Office in 1993. I've been there since then but recently took a small promotion to work the rural parts of the county east of Denver. My area is huge and includes the towns of Strasburg, Bennett and Watkins, Colorado. Lots of nice people to serve and protect. We are required to live in the area and we love living in Strasburg. My wife, Betty Smith, worked for Frontier as a Ticket Lift Accounting Clerk and had just 6 months at the end. She took CAL's offer and actually got a small raise. She worked with Norm Rankin, Carolyn Boller and Lori Gablehouse from SLC res on the "fair and equitable" solution for seniority negotiations at CO. She was only able to stick it out at CO for about 2 years before taking a voluntary layoff. Through an unemployment job contact, she got on with the Adams County Sheriff's Office 2 years before me. She was hurt during self-defense training in 1996 and worked her way back to full time, but had to retire in 2001. She is currently unable to work at all. We both still miss the "Glamorous Airline Business" and I still occasionally dream about working the ramp in Denver. -Gary Smith (4/23/09) FLacebook Post Hi all. I'm member 72. Great growth, huh? I started in PUB in 1976, DEN Senior Agent from 77 to 79, COS agent 79 to 81 and was cut then. My options were: DEN, DEN, DEN or DEN! So back to DEN as an agent until the end in 86. I worked for Denver at Stapleton for 4 years then became a Deputy Sheriff in Adams County.... I've been with Adams for 17 years now and I am lucky to work in the Strasburg, Bennett, Watkins area of Eastern Adams County. We are required to live in the area, the people out here are great and I love living here. I am still married to Betty Smith who attended the "Flight Plan for Tomorrow" presentation with me in 1986 and just HAD to work for Frontier. She had just 6 months as a Ticket Lift Accounting Clerk at the end and got a $200 a month RAISE by accepting CO's offer. She lasted there for 2 years but accepted a layoff because they just didn't treat their employees very nicely! -Gary Smith (2/19/10) Betty Pope Smith Hi I am Betty Smith the wife of Gary who is 72. I only worked for FAL for about 6 months however I was an inlaw for many years. I went to see FLIGHT PLAN FOR TOMORROW and decided I wanted to be a part of such an awesome company. I worked as a Ticket Accounting clerk. Went to CAL and only stayed as long as I had too.... I became an Adams County Deputy and loved it. I am now disabled and do nothing. (2/19/10) Gary Smith FLacebook post about TIT setting on the CV580 operation. I thought it was Turbine Intake Temperature. One of the settings was 931, I don't remember the other two. Max Take-off gross = 54600 and max landing 52000. LOL One of the jobs I had after FL was at a Stapleton hotel that housed new CV580 pilots who were training for Sierra Pacific. I quoted some of those numbers to the trainees once while taking them to the airport. They were GOBSMACKED! (3/29/10) FLacebook: Gary Smith I frequently dream about working the ramp in Denver, usually searching desperately for a tug or carts to run on-line bags. Remember saving a string of carts with a glove placed on the tow bar so no one would take them. It always seemed that we were short on carts. Well, last night I dreamped that I was working COS ticket counter and had to check a bag to "TSI" and the guy was taking 6 or seven flights. Remember we had to staple two interline bag tags for more than 3 or 4 flights. I had a hard time getting it done because I could barely read the airline and flight information written on the ticket. When I woke up, I googled "TSI" and discovered that it's Tsili Tsili airport in Papua New Guinea. I'll bet it does take 6 flights to get from COS to TSI! (11/6/10) I just discovered the Frontier web site. This is Jim Burbank 1967-1986. Thanks so much for making these available. I just looked at all of them. Foto 62 of Bill Greiner and the unknown forms agent. That's Gary Smith. I don't know if you remember or not, but he had that real raspy voice, sounded like he had laryngitis, but it was that way all the time. The only fotos I'm in are at the bus stop waiting to go home. Thanks again -Jim Burbank (2/14/11) FLacebook Posted after pic of PUB posted. Gary Smith In 1974, I was standing behind the FL ticket counter when I fell in love with a young lady who was coming in the front doors of this building. Thirty-eight years later, we're still together and still in love! I worked for Colorado Air Cargo and she was a waitress at the "Wildflower" restaurant. I didn't get on with FL until 1976. (2/4/13) Gary Smith Thirty-nine years ago at this very moment, I was lucky enough to marry the woman I had fallen head-over-heals in love with at first sight. I was standing behind the ticket counter at Frontier Airlines in Pueblo, just a contract employee then, and I saw her come in through the south doors of the airport on her way to work at the airport restaurant. She saw me too and we both fell in love! I'm a lucky boy! Thank you, Betty, for loving me! (12/21/13) FLacebook Betty Smith Okay now we have some info I can share! Last night about 4:00 Gary experienced an event of extreme dizziness and weakness that when it was over he could not speak clearly and his dexterity in his right hand was not good! His symptoms decreased and he refused to go to the Doctor. When I had a Dr. appointment this morning he told me he could not write his name so I called his cancer Dr. They directed us to an ER where after a CT they confirmed he had a small stroke! He will be going in for an MRI and will be kept overnight! Thank you for all the prayers and please keep them coming! (11/14/19) Betty Smith Update on Gary. He is doing well and looks like he is going home. He will need one therapy visit. His symptoms should resolve themselves! As of now their is no answer as to what caused it. They are not changing his meds at this time. He is going to have to wear a heart monitor for a while because the top chamber of his heart is not squeezing evenly. He may have been in AFIB. Once again we are learning more about a health condition than we ever wanted to know! LOL POOR Gary it just keeps piling on. Thank you all so much for your prayers and well wishes. (11/15/19) Betty Smith Well I know everyone has their own trials right now but for those who did not know! Gary is making a horrible habit of going to the hospital on March 18th, last year for cell transplant and this year bacterial pneumonia and two viruses. Neither COVID19 yet but he has been tested! Results should be in tomorrow! He is in isolation and can have no visitors. His Drs. Have told me to stay in my house, because of my cough. He was very sick yesterday temp 103 could not even stand fell twice hit his head and has low platelets. Had a CT scan for a brain bleed it that was clear, Praise God! Rain and snow and multiple power outages have led me to turn on fire place! That way if power goes out the pilot light won't need the electrical spark and I will have heat! I want to thank you all for you prayers and good thoughts! God is good and will get us through this too! God bless you all. Stay warm, safe and in good spirits, and germ free! GOD'S WILL BE DONE in all things! Thank you Lord! (3/19/20) FLacebook Gary Smith I transfered to COS in 1979. They sat me down in the break room and asked, "How much time do you have?' I answered, "Three and a half years!" proudly! They told me, "I don't think you can hold nights!" The more senior employees were bidding nights because there was one less flight to work! (5/13/20) FLacebook Betty Smith The Dr. Who performed Gary's endoscope has confirmed that he has stomach cancer. They have put a rush on the biopsies so we can find out the particulars! Please continue to pray for him. To find out you have one incurable cancer but that it is treatable was hard enough but now to have two different cancers at once! I hurt so badly for him. Saw pictures and it is very scary looking. Dr. Appointment is coming up on Friday and maybe we will find out more! Thank you for your love and prayers! (1/10/23) Betty Smith Jan 13, 2023 Hi everyone, We want to keep you all up to date so you know how to pray. Gary's bone marrow results showed his Multiple Myeloma is doing well. Only 1-3 % of his blood is MM compared to 98 plus when we started this journey! As for the stomach cancer the results are not in yet. And Monday being a holiday means probably Tuesday. You have no idea how much your kind words, support, love and PRAYERS mean to us! We are truly blessed! Betty Smith Prayer warriors, dear dear friends, and all of our family! We love you all ! Thank you for the years of prayers, support and kindness! We want you to know all the prayers for spiritual healing have been heard and answered! Thank you! For the physical healing that will be in the arms of his Savior and King! Gary is home for hospice to wait for his Father to bring him home. He is expecting this glorious transformation to be on Friday when our dearest support people can be here. I think my man is so stubborn that when he makes a decision like this he can make it happen! He wants everyone to know how much your love, support and prayers have meant to us. I will let you know! Love, Betty and Gary (2/14/24) FLacebook Betty Smith Dearest prayer warriors, friends and of course family I want you to know your prayers have been answered and cancer no longer controls his every minute of every day! He has passed away quietly in his sleep and is now with Jesus in heaven. How can I thank all of you for your faithful prayers for five long and difficult years. You kept me going and in the end our prayers for Spiritual and physical healing were answered! What a blessing every nurse was at Swedish Memorial were! They made the experience we endured over the last month so much easier! They not only took care of Gary but made sure I didn't need anything every time they left the room. They explained everything they were doing and why! He loved you all as do I. (2/20/24) Facebook Daniel Smith For anyone who hasn't heard already, my father, Gary Smith, passed away on Sunday, February 18th, following a prolonged and difficult battle with multiple myeloma. He fought as hard as you can imagine and tried every treatment, method, and option available until the outcome was inevitable. Every ounce of strength he had was dedicated to borrowing as many moments as he could to spend with my mother. Kimberly, Madison, and I were fortunate enough to have been among the people surrounding him with love as he neared the end and entered his final chapter. Ever the jokester, dad was dad throughout and still loved to get a laugh. I've every confidence he knew and accepted the truth of Christ. Although his death leaves us all behind to wait for our reunion, it is comforting and relieving to know that his suffering is over and that he squeezed every bit of life his body would allow. A celebration of dad's life will be held this Saturday, and I hope to be able to see you there to share a story, tell a joke, say a prayer, or just support each other. To those of you at ACSO, we are thinking of you all as well during this terrible time of loss you all are going through on so many different fronts. Our hearts are with you.
