He is not on the 9/1/85 list. -Jake Lamkins (12/10/13) Here's the story on G B Jones. (I assume this is Gary B) In December of 2010, G B drove his car out in wilderness. He was suffering from throat cancer and other issues. He took off the oxygen he was breathing, left a note he was leaving, not to look for him, he was going to start walking. I can't remember how long it took to find him, but the sheriff gave up, so the brothers starting searching and found him where he had dropped. This all happened in Tonto Basin, Az, Gila County. Story told to Walt Ruhle by Diane Smith, ex F/A and wife of Rod Smith. GB Jones was in same class with Rod. Walt told this story on Dec 10th at FARPA luncheon. I looked up Tonto , Az, it's pretty far from everything, did not check on obituaries. -Bonnie Dahl (12/20/13) Sorry to 'throw' my 2 cents in but,,, Gary (aka GB JONES) was NOT in Rod's class... Rod was hired in June or July of 66... Gary Jones was in my class AUG 66... LOU WISER, GARY JONES, DAVE KAPLAN, DON GNOSE and JOHN CONNERS... there 8 in the class but 3 didn't make it... Gary was short, reddish hair... The "OTHER" GERRY JONES (pronounced 'Jerry Jones) was hired a few years later... He was about 6'1'' 200 lbs 'black hair''.... GB and Rod Smith, were best friends,,, NOT CLASS MATES... GB JONES married a FAL F/A and 'last I heard they moved to the Durango area... Gary retired early with health problems. BOTH JONES'S WERE EXCELLENT PILOTS -Dave Kaplan (12/22/13) G B JONES DEN 737 captain per the 2/82 FL Domicile Roster. He is not on the 5/83 roster. G B JONES Emp# 04716 Address in Durango CO. per the Nov 1984 FL Roster. Makes me think he may have worked elsewhere in the company. I will assume he left in 1984 until more information is received. -Jake Lamkins (12/24/13) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: DEN pilot Gary Jones' memorial webpage is posted http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Gary_Jones.html Still need a photo and obituary for Gary. -Jake Lamkins (12/27/13) I have lost touch with Gary since FL went down. He and Pat went on several of the pack trips back in the mountains with us. Where was he living when he passed away and was he still married to Pat? -Ken Wientjes (12/28/13) Gary was still living in DRO as far as I know. I never found an obituary so I don't know if Pat was still his wife. Was Pat the FL stew he married? If so, do you recall her maiden name? -Jake Lamkins (12/28/13) A personal loss. "Captain GB JONES" an exemplary airman of high integrity. The Line Check Airman program at United Airlines was based on many inputs and processes shared with this "new Captain" on my initial flights on the Convair fleet. Thought of him often these many years, a valued friend, Godspeed and tailwinds family a very Happy New Years...Capt. Dale Buss -Dale Buss (12/28/13) GB was a great guy. I am sad to hear this. -Tom Robertson (12/28/13) I missed the news about GB Jones. He was the one who came to mind with the expression "Dynamite comes in small packages!" He was fun being around. -Billy Walker (12/29/13)
