FLOYD ROLLINS 1957 - 1980 STATION AGENT, ASSISTANT STATION MANAGER, STATION MANAGER TOP LAW ABQ ELP Floyd Rollins from Lawton Ok, lived here in ELP, however he passed away about 4 years ago. Floyd ended up in El Paso Texas and was working part time for S.W. Airlines. He passed away in 1990 or 1991 here in El Paso. He was a good friend and a hell of a hard worker. He left his wife and 2 daughters, I believe. -Gary Suboter (7/30/99) My name is Gary Rollins. I am Floyd Rollins' son. My father passed away on September 11, 1989, at the age of 53. He was working for America West Airlines at the time of his passing. He was working at the El Paso airport in El Paso, Texas. It came as a total shock to all of us since he died at work. He left behind his wife, Barbara, 2 daughters, Shari and Rhonda, and myself, Gary. I will write more later about my father. Thank you for honoring all of the ex-Frontier employees, it really means a lot to me. Sincerely, -Gary Rollins (9/22/04) Hi Gary, Great to hear from you. I missed working for your dad in Lawton. I was there after he left. As you can tell from his website, we need more info and a photo, if possible. Where all did he work for Frontier? When did he start? Anything else you or the family would like posted about him? We also have an online Frontier Club and a newsletter. -Jake Lamkins (9/22/04) F ROLLINS Born 14 Nov 1935 Died 15 Sep 1989 Age 53 SSN issued in Oklahoma -SSDI (9/22/04) This is Gary Rollins again. I spoke to my mother and she gave me some more information about my father. He started out with Central Airlines in around 1956 or '57. He went to Topeka, Kansas for training. He was only there about a month. From there he went back to Lawton, Oklahoma, and worked there from 1957 - 1969. I guess in between Frontier purchased Central or it was a merger, my mom really couldn't remember so he was working for Frontier. From Lawton, OK they (we) moved to Albuquerque, NM, and he was here from 1969 - 1975 with Frontier. From 1975 - 1980, he worked for Frontier in El Paso, TX. In 1980, Southwest Airlines offered him the Station Manager position in Albuquerque, NM. So we moved back to Albuquerque. He was so thrilled to open up an airlines such as Southwest in the town he loved. He was ecstatic. We worked really hard getting that station put together before the inaugural flight. After he left Southwest, he really moved around the US a lot trying to find good employment. He finally moved back to El Paso with America West when he died. My mom also told me that he is in a book titled "Golden Years of Flying." She said he's mentioned in the book. My mom also wanted me to ask you if you knew Ted Pierce or Andy Zunich. My parents were friends with them. -Gary Rollins (9/25/04) Thanks for the additional info. I didn't know Ted or Andy but I have info that Ted died 7/14/2001 aged 70. I have the book you mentioned and will check it. -Jake Lamkins (9/27/04) I am writing to you to introduce myself. My name is Gary Rollins, the son of Floyd Rollins. Floyd Rollins was the Station Manager for Central Airlines in Lawton, Oklahoma. I really don't remember the dates because I was born in 1963. Central Airlines was up and running at that time, however, I was too young to remember the dates. My father also went on to work for Frontier Airlines and Southwest Airlines. He retired from Frontier Airlines and then went on to become the Station Manager for Southwest Airlines in Albuquerque, NM. My father passed away at the age of 53 from a heart attack in 1989. Even though he has been gone a long time, I still miss him very much. I have models from my father of a Frontier 727 and a Southwest 737. -Gary Rollins (2/16/08) I just came across a picture on the internet of my Dad and wanted to share it with you. . The picture is of my Dad at the ceremony of the opening of Southwest Airlines in Albuquerque in 1980. My Dad is on the far right. The tall guy cutting the ribbon is Herb Kelleher, the past Chairman of Southwest. -Gary Rollins (4/1/14) FLOYD ROLLINS LAW assistant station manager Station agent seniority date of 4/1/57 per the CN 1/1/62 Station Seniority List. We bowled on their team for two years. Their son had asthma in Lawton, they moved to El Paso before ABQ Floyd said his sons health changed when he got into the drier climate. I was in ABQ for some reason was visiting with him and he told me Dunaway was going to come in and give him hell again. He said I have a surprise for him. I started working for Southwest here as the manager. When Dunaway comes in all I need to do is pick up my brief case off the desk and walk over and into my office at Southwest. -Roger Greenlee (8/18/20)
