EMILY HOWELL WARNER 1973 - 1986 PILOT DEN Subject: First all-female flight crew The photo of Capt.Emily & F/O is on the way. FO Barbara Cook is whom you are looking for. It is the Newspaper article with the photo. You will see that Emily & Barbara both autographed it with Emily writing " Frank, aren't you proud of the GOLDDUST TWINS?". I sure was & still am proud of them & being their Ground School Instructor was an honor. Every Lady pilot of FRONTIER that I was involved with as their GS Instructor excelled in the training. They put in lots of study hours. I know how the flying bug gets you = I had it since I first saw an airplane & women that want to fly have that same feeling & the Flight Deck belongs to whomever has the desire. -Frank Meyer (2/10/03) Emily is now retired from the FAA and lives here in Colorado. She often joins us at our monthly luncheons. Presently (and among other things) she is involved with the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum located at the old Lowry Air Force Base location in Denver. -Ace Avakian (10/6/02) Emily is in the 1979 Frontier Family Cookbook. -Jake Lamkins (12/4/04) The first time I met Emily Warner, at that time Emily Howell, I was hanging out (didn't we all do that??) at Clinton Aviation Company, an FBO in Denver, Colo. At that time, Emily was a flight instructor and an FAA-designated examiner. She was already in the "big time," from my perspective. I was more than a little awestruck by her. Although I never had the privilege of flying with her, I enjoyed meeting her and talking to her. Long after we had both evolved from Clinton Aviation Company, we met again at Frontier Airlines. Emily had been hired just before me and would forever be senior to me. As we were close in seniority, we never flew together. Her reputation at Frontier as a pilot and as a person was impeccable. I was proud that Frontier had the foresight to hire somebody like Capt. Emily Warner. My wife, Allyson, was a flight attendant for Frontier during these years. She has often commented on how well the cabin crews accepted Emily. She was not only a very nice person to be around, but extremely professional as well. The fact that she had been the "first" was soon irrelevant to those who knew her. Years later, Emily and I crossed paths again. Emily is now the FAA's B-737 aircrew program manager for United Airlines, and I am a United Airlines A320 captain. I am still just a little awestruck when I talk to Capt. Warner. I am proud to have called her both a colleague and friend for these many years. -Rick Wise (2/9/09) E J WARNER Pilot seniority date of 1/29/73 on the 9/1/86 FL/ALPA Seniority List. -Jake Lamkins (12/25/10) Hi Jake, Took a photo of Emily and her dog today. Will send a card to you with more information when I get it. -Bonnie Dahl (3/29/14) Emily flew her first flight with Frontier as an S/O on the 737. Swede Nettleblad was the captain. She flew here first flight as an F/O on the DHC-6 with me. She flew her first captain's flight on the DHC-6 with John Heimberger as her F/O. -Billy Walker (7/12/14) FLacebook-FL Club Nancy Meshko emailed: Emily Warner has had shoulder surgery due to a fall on ice. She suffered this fall on Monday. Perhaps you would like to send her a card. (2/26/15) Ellen Quinn & I went to see Emily today, she looked great, I think she's the youngest person there. So she appears to be doing okay her family thought due to extra care she should be here. She enjoys company! Remembers everything , I read every comment on the FAL website to her which made her happy. Easy to get to, Broadway & Arapaho Rd -Bonnie Dahl (4/24/18) I called the Highline Place's main number. I explained to the receptionist who I was and that I was trying to get in touch with Emily. She said, "No problem. I'll have Emily call you!" Less than three minutes later Emily called! She sounded terrific and we had a pleasant visit of some 20 minutes. In fact, I just set the phone down. Emily said her health was fine, no troubles, other than trying to figure out how she got so old so quick! I replied, "We all are puzzled over that question." Emily'd love for us to come by to pick her up for a mini-Frontier reunion one of these days. She said, "Especially if it involved red wine!" She sure sounded good with absolutely no indication of the diminished memory issues we've seen previously. She did say that her cell phone was kaput and that she needed to get a new one. I told her that we'd figure out when we'll be in Colorado and when a a good time for you, Emily, Pete, Ellen, Patty & other Frontier folks might gather up for some reminiscing. -Billy Walker (6/22/18) FLacebook A FLamily member sent this weblink to an item about Emily Howell Warner: https://www.9news.com/video/news/local/newscasts/first-female-airline-captain-still-inspiring-students/73-8259671 -Jake Lamkins (9/22/18) I called to check on Emily at High Line Place in denver.
