He lived to be 93 and passed in 2017. After retirement from Frontier he decided to become an oil man and started his own oil company called Eddy Oil Company. He loved drilling wells! John Thaemert Your dad flew into Spokane a lot him and my dad talked a lot too and I'm glad I got to meet your dad. Jeff Nichols I remember him from Memphis and Denver! Don Miller I remember him flying into LNK. Liz Gomez I remember him well! I flew w/ him many times! Ginger Treptow Lisa, your Dad was such a great person. Always a smile, and his jokes were funny and made me laugh. I was in Customer Service in the Phoenix Station and would have a nice visit everytime he had a flight out of the area. I'm sure you miss him every day. May he Rest In Peace. Cherie Lambourne Lisa, I remember meeting your dad. He was friends with my father, Bob Lambourne. They were from the "greatest generation" of pilots. Bonnie Dahl Lots of us flew with Eddie, Great guy! Jim Haxby I flew with Eddy, a great guy. RIP Eddy Joe Aguirre I'm pretty sure it your Dad was the Capt. on this story. This was on MD-80. Take off out ofJohn Wayne airport, Santa Ana, CA. As the gear came up, the right engine completely shut down, the computer added emergency extra thrust to the left engine. In my own reckoning, if Capt. Morgigno had not been at the controls, FAL would have lost that aircraft. 1st, to lose all that thrust, all at once, and 2nd, then the computer kick in more. I can just imagine what was going on in wheel house. He did a magnificent amazing job. What caused the problem? Mechanic forgot to secure a door that protects equipment in main gear wheel well in case rubber pieces come off the main gear tires. There's no indicator warning lites to tell the doors are secured. When the right gear came up, it squashed the door up into the control cables to the right engine. Consequently it shut it down. Because of that incident those doors were removed off all MD-80s. Henry Rankin I flew with your Dad many times and we laughed so much taxiing out one day we had to wait for T/O for the tears to dry. He was always kind to me and taught me lots. (4/8/20) Pamella Corvelli I flew with Eddy..a nice guy!! He was nice to me and all my medical books I carried around. The rest of the crew would go in to eat at some stop over, and I would stay on the plane to study, and your Dad always brought me a sandwich or piece of pie. He'd say "make us proud medico!" Lisa Morgigno Jaworski Wow! That's a nice story. Dad had a very generous side to him. He lived to be 93. After he retired from Frontier he started an oil company and drilled wells. He worked almost until the end. Guess what it was called? Eddy Oil Company. Thanks for sharing! (8/22/21) Lisa Morgigno Jaworski on FLacebook 4/30/23 Did you know my Father, Captain Eddy Morgigno? Kevin Finke Of course!! Famous for his engine loss in Orange Country, CA! Lisa Morgigno Jaworski Yes! He got Pilot of the year from the FAA for that one and then he got the Maiden Voyage of the MD80. I have his uniform and all his pins. He lived to be 92! This photo was about a year before he passed. Kevin Finke A wonderful man and such an inspiration. Every single time I visit John Wayne airport I am reminded of your father. Lisa Morgigno Jaworski Aww, thank you! I appreciate that. Karen Berry Yes I was on that flight! Lisa Morgigno Jaworski Karen Berry I bet that was scary! Karen Berry Oh yes!! I think the pilots got relieved of duty. We didn't. Lisa Morgigno Jaworski No, my Dad did not get relieved of duty. It was the ground crew that didn't secure the door under the plane. When the landing gear came up it crushed the door up and it cut off the the electrical to the engine. That's why it started to go down, but because my Dad knew the aircraft so well, he was able to re-route the engine and get it started again just 250 ft above the ocean. That's why he was awarded Pilot of the Year that year by the FAA. That's also why Frontier Airlines let him fly the Maiden Voyage of the MD80. He was a brilliant Captain who never once in his career got relieved of duty. Kevin Finke The facts were just slightly different but you are close enough! Eddie was a marvelous pilot for sure! (4/30/23) Lisa Morgigno Jaworski on FLacebook 5/4/24 My Father was Captain Eddy Morgigno. Joined the old Frontier about 6 months after it formed. He flew the maiden voyage of the MD-80 and was the FAA Pilot of the Year one year by preventing a crash out of The John Wayne Airport. He started an oil company after retirement which has been a blessing to our family. Lived to be 92 and now my Mother is almost 90! I'm sure some of you knew him and worked with him. He could be very tough I'm sure. George Fay What a great guy and pilot and friend! Patty Hughes Smith I as a young F/A loved flying with your dad!
