DOYLE OSBORN 1954 - 1956 /1958 - 1986 STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER FSM FYV PNC PUB JLN ICT It was Doyle Osborn that did the tie validation thing (He validated the tie of an irate customer who leaned over the ticket counter to curse him.) I have several good stories on Doyle - one of these times. -Jerry Pickering (1/29/05) Re old Central photo of the first FYV terminal: That is definitely the first commercial terminal that Central Airlines moved into when starting service to FYV. I do not recognize any of the persons pictured, however. I know Doyle Osborn worked in that terminal and I worked there very briefly when I transferred from FSM in 1960. -Ken Stewart (12/28/05) Thanks for the picure of the old FYV terminal building. I worked in that building for a while in 1956 & 57. Jerry Parkhill, Raymond Mitchell, Doyle Osburn, Delford Caudle, Chief Walt Whitecrow. I have wanted to get to FSM to see all of the people but with my wife the way she is, impossible. I have a number of things that I would like to give to someone that could put them somewhere. My kids do not care anything about them. I have large picture of the FAL MD-80 in flight and color also. I still have a number bottles of the wine. Also a CEN ruler and I am sure could find some cocktail glasses. If you know of anybody that will be coming thur ICT let me know and I will bundle it up. When Wayne Holder was alive I give him a bunch of stuff. -Doyle Osborn (1/20/10) Hi Doyle, Great hearing from you, ol' buddy. I remember with gratitude all those cases of 905 beer you sent down to us in the old days. Sorry to hear your wife's health is bad. As my dad said, getting old ain't for sissies. If I hear of somebody coming thru ICT, I'll tell them of your offer. Or you can box them up and mail to me. Do you have any CN/FL newsletters? Whatever it costs, I'll credit to your subscription. I maintain a CN/FL exhibit at FYV in the old white hangar. http://FYV.tripod.com Take care and keep in touch. -Jake Lamkins (1/20/10) Jake, I will coming thur FYV before long with some things for your your collection. I have to go to FSM to take care a head stone for my dear wife. Lost her on Aug 25th. Man, what a new world. I am totally lost. I have a picture of the FAL DC-9, some wine and some glasses. If you are interest in any of them, let me and give your phone number so I can call and set up a meeting place. -Doyle Osborn (9/19/11) Hi Doyle, Great hearing from you but very sorry to hear of your loss. My condolences - seems the older we get the more loved ones we bury. We are having our monthly FL lunch next week on Tue, the 27th, at 1 pm. Maybe you could schedule your trip to coincide with it. A real treat to see Doyle whom I had not seen in 30 years at least. He worked mostly in Joplin and used to send us cheap 905 beer on the flights. His wife had died and he was going to move to Fort Smith. He ended up in Wichita when Joplin closed and worked for United there 12 years afterwards until he was 62. He told us he started with Central in 1952 in FSM and later was in FYV in 1956 when the agents quit over Raymond Mitchell's pay. (Can't find him on the 5/19/53 CN Seniority List. He would have been 17 years old in Aug 1952 so I'm guessing it was 1954 or so.) He had quit for awhile to work for Continental but came back in 1958. He was station manager at PUB PNC and JLN along the way. He gave me a box of CN/FL memorabilia so I comped his FL News subscription for two years. He's 77 now and moving as soon as he can sell his house in Wichita. Doyle's wife had MS and he had to take care of her for five years when she became totally disabled and for ten years before that to a lesser extent. -Jake Lamkins (9/27/11) Sure great to visit with you today, Doyle. I'll add you to the email list for our meetings. Thanks so much for the FL stuff you gave me. I added a few years to your FL News subscription as a small token of appreciation. Looking forward to seeing more of you when you get moved. I'm attaching a few pix from today. -Jake Lamkins (9/27/11) LIST OF ITEMS DOYLE GAVE ME DC-9 color print in 20X24 frame 7 FL glasses, 5 of a F logo I didn't have, 2 of F logo I had already 4 unopened Wente Wine bottles 4 unopened Monterey Wine bottles Small CV580 model with damage to it 2 FL caps, one red and navy blue watch cap type with orange F logo Letter of commendation to Doyle from Hand Lund in frame Sleeve of F paper cups RON kit CN metal ruler 6 pads of sticky notes F logo, 2 pads legroom motto Deck of F playing cards Binder of training aids, wt/bal training, misc files -Jake Lamkins (9/27/11) Jake, thank you for letting me know about the lunch. The pictures were a nice thing sending them to all of us. It was really great to see them again. To be quite honest to you, I do not think that if I ran into any of them except you, I would of been able to name them, I'm sure the same would go for me. I had been wanting to get that stuff to you so long. I hope you can use it or anyway some of it. Keep up the good work - hoping to see guys when I get moved to FSM. -Doyle Osborn (9/30/11) Hi Doyle, Sorry you didn't make it to the FYV-FSM FL Reunion. I was hoping to see you. Hope you are well. Been awhile since I heard from you. -Jake Lamkins (9/18/14) I been out looking for you today. I got the date messed up. I'm the one sorry as I was looking forward to see the good people that made up FAL. -Doyle Osborn (9/20/14) Hi Doyle, I'm sorry we missed each other. Next year it's planned for Sep 5th. We're still having the monthly meetings here at FYV last Tuesday of the month. Hope to see you soon. -Jake Lamkins (9/21/14) Since I had not heard from Doyle for several years, I sent him an email and it bounced so then I did a web search. Nothing on his death at google or findagrave.com He's about 85 now if still alive. -Jake Lamkins (3/13/21) To: Jake Lamkins Doyle Osborn Obituary (1935 - 2021) - Fort Smith, AR - Times Record https://www.legacy.com/obituaries/swtimes/obituary.aspx?n=doyle-osborn&pid=198924876&fhid=10906 -Richard Horn (6/7/21) Thanks, Richard. Jake Lamkins Doyle was always giving me stuff. Back about 1965 he heard me complain about the price of beer in FYV and he said it's cheap in JLN and, after that, every so often there would be a case of beer in the belly bin of the flight from JLN. The last time I saw him in 2011 he gave me a big box of Frontier memorabilia. Just a great friend for many years! Fred Watson R.I.P Donna Harrison I do remember Doyle. Fine man and co-worker.
