I flew with him a lot and have to say he was a consumate gentleman at all times. Never knew a nicer guy. His birth date was 7/22/32. He spent a great deal of his childhood with Capt. Don Powell who can no doubt give much insight on the subject. -Ron Gallop (4/19/06) Don has liver cancer and of course it is terminal. Family requests no phone calls except between 1900 and 2000 hours central. Anyway, hospice is at the house so it must be pretty far advanced. I have an appointment to see him tomorrow at 1500 so will know a lot more by dinner time. I will save your address and let you know. It seems like everytime I contact somebody anymore, it is to announce a death. I hate it. I know that Stallings is driving up, maybe someone could snag a ride with him. -Ron Gallop (1/6/08) Ron Gallop has emailed the following information on Captain Don Powell. Just got word from Capt. Don Powell's daughter that Don has advanced liver cancer and is at home and hospice is caring for him. He is very weak but in great spirits, as Don always was and is. More as we know it. -Phil Stallings (1/8/08) As most of you know by now ... Captain Don Powell (Central/Frontier) is very ill with liver cancer ... Sue (Judd) Evans, Roy Decha and Ron Gallop paid Don a visit a couple days ago ... I received the following note from Sue and am forwarding it to all the crews for your information ... ============================ I think you should distribute this address. I sent Don a note after our visit and got a note back from them…….thanking me for the visit AND the note….he seemed to have enjoyed it a LOT! Let’s shower him with cards…..and LOVE! Don's family also says they welcome visitors, just be sure to call. -Phil Stallings (1/15/08) Don Powell's health has worsened .... His family says, no visitors or phone calls .... This just in from Ron Gallop: ============================ Friends: I just spoke with John Green tonite after he had had a conversation with Veronica Powell. The latest report is that Don has weakened to the point that visitors are now limited to family only. Veronica said that Don still would like to see people but that he is physically unable to do so. I will endeavour to keep you all informed so that the family's wishes for privacy can be honored. Until there is further information..... -Phil Stallings (1/21/08) This just in from Capt'n John Green .... ============================ Hi Phil, I spoke to Anita Kunst About a half hour ago. I have to say "no" to something.....otherwise, the wear and tear will catch up with me, and that's never good.. please give my regards to his family (for those in the CN/FAL Family that were unable to be there), and thank you for being there for a good friend and his family. -Jodelle Davidson Burwell (1/26/08) OBITUARY Donald R.
