DON ENOS 1956 - 1986 STATION AGENT, ASSISTANT STATION MANAGER, STATION MANAGER ADM MLC SWI TUL BVO JLN FYV CPR Don Enos, Manager FYV First FL boss, in FYV til about 1981 when he went to CPR -Jake Lamkins (2/2/03) Don phoned and we chatted quite awhile. He and Phyllis are hanging in there - both have health problems. He had talked to L.A. Fuller, Bob Milne and Jerry Parkhill recently. Jerry sounded like he alway does and L.A. had a stomach operation coming up. Don started with CN April 12, 1956 in FYV. Left after a year or so and went to Sherman, OK and later other OK stations. He returned as FYV manager in 1964 and was here until 1981 when he went to CPR as manager. He took over from Sam McNeiland in FYV. He recalled sitting with Hank Lund on a flight from CPR to DEN around 1985. When he asked Hank about what was happening to FL, Hank replied, "You can read my book." -Don Enos (1/26/04) The health problems in this house just go on and on, getting old really sucks. Once again I missed the PIGNIC and I really hate that. -Don Enos (8/25/05) Don phoned and we chatted awhile. He was not coming to the FYVFL Pullout Party. His oldest daughter, Debbie, now 50, has lung cancer and is being operated on by Dr. Jim Counce. Phyllis nearly died lasy year in February with a septic shock infection. Son Neal is the fire chief of West Palm Beach, FL now. He & Phyllis have been married 52 years. He's now 73. -Jake Lamkins (1/30/06) I talked to Don Enos a few days ago. He was just released from the hospital. Was in a two car accident and received a number of broken bones. He is at home recovering. -Ray Engstrom (1/30/07) I phoned Don about 4pm and he told me about the accident. It was his fault - failed to yield. Head-on collision and he was the only injury. Busted sternum and broken ribs. He's recuperating at home but wife Phyllis is still in hospital with unrelated medical problems. He was glad to hear from me and said I cheered him up. -Jake Lamkins (1/31/07) A lllooooonnnnnnggg time ago - Don Enos was Ass't Mgr in Tulsa and I worked for him as an agent ... got tired working and went on the payroll as a pilot ... *grin* ... -Phil Stallings (4/6/07) Jake, A little bit extra to help with the postage on the newsletter. Personal regards, -Don Enos (7/19/07) Don phoned about 6:30 pm to tell me his wife of 53 years, Phyllis, had died this morning. He wanted me to pass it on to the FLamily. Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove is handling it. The Funeral will be Sunday. He said she had been ill several years and had nearly died a few times. I expressed my sympathy and promised to let everyone know. -Jake Lamkins (1/25/08) I went to the memorial service at the Catholic Church for Debbie Enos Donovan and have copies of the hand-outs if you want them, I did not see you there. You may have gone to Becky's house for the reception there, I did not go. If you wud like them, I do have them. Also have copies of Phylis's memorial if you need them. I went to her visitation but not the service. I did have a nice visit with Debbie there. Also visited with Ruth Dial there. Don says he is very lonely and it is such a loss for both Phylis and Debbie going so closely. -Ken Stewart (7/7/08) Don phoned abput 6:30 and we talked. He thanked me for the card and everything for Phyllis and Debbie. He said it was really rough. I told him about losing Rik & Link and only time helped. He said he no longer had a computer and may sell his house. He asked me about Nantucket. I told him to just let me know and I would help him get in here. He said he would try to come to the Old FARTS meeting the 29th. -Jake Lamkins (7/12/08) Don came to our monthly meeting today and gave me a bunch of CN/FL stuff including a CN CV600 model, 4' FL sign, bunch of photos, etc. -Jake Lamkins (7/29/08) DONALD A. ENOS Seniority date of 4/12/56, BVO manager, on the 1/1/62 CN Agent Seniority List. Mitchell started 3 days earlier and Caudle 2 days earlier. -Jake Lamkins (5/26/09) Phoned Don to let him know Raymond Mitchell died. He sounded feeble and said he would be unable to attend Mitch's services. Recited all his health problems and living alone in too big a place to take care of. -Jake Lamkins (8/5/10) Phoned Don and he has moved to Mead, OK. He's been there five weeks and likes it. He gave me his new contacts He sounded better than he did when I called him about Mitch's death. -Jake Lamkins (9/28/10) Missed call from Don Enos So called him back and we visited about 15 minutes. He's moved back to his place in Rogers. He said it just didn't seem right down there in Mead OK. Her family came at Thanksgiving and he was missing his family. So, with Christmas coming and winter weather, he moved back. He will try to make the Dec 28 Frontier meeting. He said he was sorry to miss Ken Stewart's funeral. I told him about Larry Palmer dying. -Jake Lamkins (12/8/10) I phoned Don to tell him about Jim Thomas' death. He's hanging in there and told me about his son, Neil, and brother coming to town so he probably would not be down for Jim's funeral. He talked about his dog, his dear companion, who had killed a chipmunk. He was 80 on Aug 25th. -Jake Lamkins (9/18/12) Don phoned and we chatted 20 minutes. He wanted to thank me for the item I did on him in the last FL News. He sounded better than he did last time I talked to him. He seldom goes anywhere but will try to come down sometime for the Frontier monthly meeting. -Jake Lamkins (4/12/14) I read with interest your feature on Don Enos in the spring issue of Frontier News. Don was my manager at Casper near the end. Could you possibly provide me with contact information for him? I would like to send him well wishes and a thank you because I think he might have done me a big favor right before it ended. If he has email great, or I still know how to send a letter. Thank you, -Kevin Anderson (7/2/14) Don's daughter Becky Enos Wingate phoned to tell me Don passed away yesterday. He had fallen Sep 21 and went downhill after that. He had not been well since Phyllis's death, she said. Service will be at Seminole, OK where Phyllis is buried and where they were from. He was 82 and had been in poor health for some time. Burial will be at Seminole OK where his wife is buried. Wind was blowing like crazy. Asked Don if wind always blew like that in Casper. Don said you need to be here on parking meter day.
