DON ANDERTON 1955 - 1986 RKS INW SLC STATION AGENT, SENIOR STATION AGENT, ASSISTANT STATION MANAGER, TICKET COUNTER AGENT, SENIOR TICKET COUNTER AGENT Don Anderton phoned today and we chatted quite awhile. He started in 1955 in RKS, was there about three months and got sent to INW whener he stayed another 3 months or so. Then an opening came up in SLC and he transferred there where he remained til the bankruptcy. He was 55 when FL crashed and drove a school bus for 12 years after that. It should be 84118. He said they had a great reunion and the pilots had invited them to their monthly meetings. -Jake Lamkins (7/17/06) Letter from Don with Royal Burt obit and $50 renewal check for the FL newsletter: I hope we both outlive this renewal. I really enjoy your magazine. Plan to write my history with Frontier one of these days and all the people I had the opportunity to work with and get to know. I get my hometown newspaper "The Uintah Basin Standard" each week and saw this obituary (Royal Burt's) in last week's. Don't know if anyone else has sent it to you, but knew you would be interested. I started with FL in May, 1955 in RKS. Larry Jereb was manager with Bill Kirkwood, Ray Aho, Bob White, Bob Cady as agents. Had a RON DC3 from DEN so we got to do everything. Was RIF'd to INW in Aug 1955 - Don Boderman was manager with Don Blanford, Rex Marble, Red Smith as agents and Al Mosely as SSA. Had RON DC3 from PHX there, so once again got to do everything except INW had a fuel man so we didn't have to fuel. Transferred to SLC in Dec 1955 and worked there until the closedown. Lou Berets was manager but also worked for Dick Lohbeck, Duane Phelps and Harold Maxwell. Some of the oldtimers - Tom Morris, Meredith Dexter, Jim Crosley, Bruce Anderson, Russell Boice, Jeanette Sumrall (TCA), Dex Alger (sales mgr), Sydney Soyka (CTO), Jim Lether, Gary McCarrell, Gary Bollschweiler, Stan Covington, Mike Caldwell, Don Brady (lead mech), Scott keller (chief pilot), Angelo George (mech), Gary Horne (mech), Chester Fitch (mech), Ray Duffek, Clem Church, A.G. Smith, Gene Swingler, Merle Beeler. Worked with many more, but the memory dims with age. P.S. I worked as an agent, SSA, STCA and also Asst Mgr for nine years. Appreciate all you do to keep FL memories bright. -Don Anderton (4/11/09) FL NEWS Jul 2011 Some of those attending the SLC Reunion were pilots Tex Searle, Dave Rampton, John Iverson, Jack Schade, Ike Isaacs, Dave Wabel, Al Harris, Gary Winn, Joe Ferguson, Jack Robins, Bob Bagshaw and Al Kendell. We have lost one of the truly good guys. -Paul Farris (8/9/12) One of the nicest people I ever met. Always there to help and a true company man. I learned so much from him in the 2 short years that we worked together. Rest in peace Don. God bless his family. -Tom Schmidt (8/9/12) Don Anderton was a very special friend to everyone; especially his Frontier Family. We all enjoyed our recent SLC picnic where we had a "Don Anderton Day." Don shared his memories with us and many came up to share special memories with him and the rest of the Frontier folks there. Don knew he was on a short string. But, like everything he did, he died as he lived - with class... Don won't be far from our thoughts... -Billy Walker (8/9/12) Stu Hammersmark I was stationed in SLC for 14 months (1963-64) Maintenance. I have to repeat Tom Schmidt's remark. " Don was the nicest person I ever met". God Bless. (8/9/12) The world has lost one of the best souls that ever set foot on Mother Earth! I was lucky to have worked with and spend time with Don! -Ron Blosch (8/10/12) When I started with FL as a station agent in SLC back in those great early DC-3 days of 1958, Don Anderton was the Senior Agent. He was the best, most likable guy at that station. I quickly learned Don was the guy to get me up to speed as a new boy station agent. He was most helpful and forgiving too. A perfect management style. One thing I will always remember about him was his teletype speed in sending flight load messages down line without any mistakes. I tried to emulate his typing speed but never quite came close. I have great fond memories of Don and wish we had stayed in touch. He was the best! -Jim Jeppesen I was the manager in SLC from 1964 to 1977. Don was the finest asst. manager on the entire FL system. He ran the station and I never had to worry about the operation. He ran the show and extremely well. He informed us of his future passing at the reunion in June and he handled it so well, and we all love him for his courage. -Duane Phelps (8/15/12) D R ANDERTON Ticket counter agent seniority date of 4/28/63, emp# 00415, per the 1/1/86 FL/ALEA Seniority List. Don lost eight years union seniority while SLC assistant manager. After that he was a ticket counter agent and STCA. -Jake Lamkins (8/15/12) Here are the pictures of Don Anderton we had. The oldest picture (where Don is in the Frontier tie) is at our wedding reception in 1982. The other picture is at a Frontier reunion approximately 2010. -Paul & Karen Farris (8/16/12) Posted at FLacebook and the FL Club: SLC senior TCA Don Anderton's memorial webpage has been posted. http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Don_Anderton.html Post your remembrances of Don. -Jake Lamkins (8/16/12) Hi Steve. Just thought I would say hi and let you know that I think of your Dad just about every day. I sure miss him. -Paul Farris (9/14/12) My mom sure enjoyed the visit she had with you this week. She asked me to send you the picture of dad’s “brick” at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. This is a picture we took right after it was installed last winter. I know dad guided us to it since it was under a couple of feet of snow that day. The receptionist had told us to come back after the snow melted. We wandered around on the plaza for a little while and had decided to leave when I just casually kicked at a pile of snow, and there it was. -Steve Anderton (6/15/13) Don Anderton's son sent this to me and I thought you might like to add it to his obit page. -Paul Farris (6/21/13) Thank you so much for sharing this. I didn’t know this page existed. It brought many happy tears to look through the things you have posted. I still miss my dad… as I know you do too. But I count my blessings every day for being one of the luckiest people on earth to have had him. -Steve Anderton (6/21/13) I forgot to mention that brick is at the Huntsman Cancer center in SLC. Several ex-FAL folks have been patients there. I got a phone call from Lorraine Anderton, Don’s wife as I was teeing off while playing a round of golf with Richard Womack near Greer's Ferry Lake in NE Arkansas. I wasn’t going to answer but saw who it was from, and she said "Paul, Don passed away just a short time ago." Well, I thanked her for calling and then just stood there with head down until Richard asked if I was okay. I should have quit playing then because my game definitely went down the tubes. I miss him most every day! Fred Watson Worked in SLC w/ Don. Good guy. R.I.P (7/18/23)
