DON ADEY 1968 - 1986 STATION AGENT, TICKET COUNTER AGENT MKC OMA ABQ HOU Posted at the FL Club: The death of Don Adey reported. I talked to L.A. Fuller yesterday. He was FSM manager and later a HOU SSA when The End came. He said Don had died sometime ago. A search of the SSDI shows DONALD E ADEY Born 29 Apr 1933 Died 10 Mar 1996 Age 62 SSN issued in Iowa I'm assuming Don was a station agent in HOU. Does anyone remember him that can supply some details about where he worked, etc. L.A. said he was married to another HOU agent, Patty Seaton, who has since re-married to Bob Milne, another FL employee. -Jake (5/25/03) DONALD E ADEY Born 29 Apr 1933 Died 10 Mar 1996 Age 62 SSN issued in Iowa -SSDI (5/24/03) Don was a station agent at OMA when I was there in 73-74. I remember seeing his name as one of the new agents when HOU opened. I do remember he was working on his private pilot license. Likely Richard Dix or somebody that worked OMA or HOU would have more to add about Don. -Chuck Tisckos (5/25/03) Don did work with me in Houston. I did talk with Patty and Bob Milne on Tuesday. They live in Rogers, I was at meeting with WalMart. -Ted Simmons (5/29/03) I love the website!!! My name is Donald Adey,,, Donald Kevin Adey. I am former Frontier Airline employee Don Earl Adey's youngest son. I thought I would give you some information about Dad if you want it. Don was married to Marge Loving, an old high school sweet heart. In fact, Mom and Dad spent most of their lives around Burlington, Iowa. Mom and Dad met because Mom was a friend of my aunt (dad's sister). Dad had tragedy in the early 50's when his sister, Mom, and Dad were all involved in a car wreck. My grandfather was killed and my aunt and grandmother spent years in rehab to overcome the accident. Mom and Dad had five kids, Beth, Terry, Jeff, Janne, and Kevin (me ). We moved from eastern Iowa to Council Bluffs, Iowa in the mid 60's and moved to Omaha, Nebraska shortly there after. I remember when Dad started for Frontier, it was 1969. He and I were standing outside in the front yard one night just prior to him starting work for Frontier and we saw a plane fly overhead. Dad told me that "he was going to be there soon because he was going to work for an airline company called Frontier". He left Omaha to go to Kansas City, Missouri at the old Kansas City Downtown airport for his training. In fact, Dad was in Kansas City when KC got hit by one of its most memorable Tornado's. Later, back in Omaha and in the early 70's, he was working the ramp when one of the baggage ramp trucks (that was known for slipping out of park) slipped out of park and pinned dad between the belt on the ramp truck and the baggage cart he was loading or unloading. It got him right on his knee. I remember him "hobbling" around on crutches for some time after while he rehabbed. My mom (Marge Adey) and dad got divorced in the mid 70's and later dad did indeed leave Omaha, but it was not a straight shot to Houston Hobby. Dad had actually met Patricia Seaton while still in Omaha before he left for Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dad went to Houston Hobby Via Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was only in New Mexico for a short time, I remember but it was long enough for me to fly down and see him there. On that trip that summer (the summer of the first shuttle launch!) Dad and I both flew over to Houston Hobby to look at the "new" airport he was transferring to. I was awestruck at the old WW II Airport!!! I thought it was cool with its tall glass wall that overlooked the runways and the "hanger" look to the building. If memory serves me correctly, Frontier became the first major airline flying back into Hobby Airport and Frontier resurrected the old airport. Many other airlines followed Frontier's lead and started flying in and out of Hobby. Later when I went back to visit dad after he started working down in Houston, I was sort of disappointed that they had updated the old building and modernized the terminals and had gotten rid of that old glass wall. I felt they took away the old character of the building and I thought the old structure was really cool. Patty Seaton had gotten divorced and later transferred down to Hobby and that is where Dad and Patty got reunited and then married. The two of them were very happy and loved each other and loved being down there. When the airline closed I honestly think a part of dad died with it. He loved working for Frontier and after he left he went to work as a social worker. Way back in his early days, Dad had gotten a degree in Social Affairs from an Iowa college. One thing that hurt me, I never saw my dad smoke but he would have his occasional glass of wine but he ended up getting multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. They found it one day when he was complaining of his back hurting. That was in the early 90's and after the airline had shut down. They did some treatments and got the cancer into remission for three years. But in 1995 the cancer came back. They tried a new treatment which actually worked very well. But a side affect was it wiped out his immune system. While in recovery, Dad got Pneumonia and died. That was March 10, 1996. Patty went on to work for Continental in various spots and has indeed remarried and is living in Arkansas. Patty is a saint and has two daughters. Her oldest was killed in a very tragic auto accident in the mid 80's. I know I personally miss the old airline and really hated the orange and red flying "F's". I loved the old "Bow and Arrow" design and in fact have a few items of the old airline. Like glasses and silverware I got off EBay and a few airplanes I have laying around. You know, they say the old apple doesn't fall far from the tree. My brother, Jeff, works for the New Frontier and I work for a little airline called American Airlines. I think I have my son hooked, he has spent many a days driving to Florida from Kansas city but now that he has flown stand by, he won't have it any other way now. Use what you want to out of this letter and thank you for the website. I have a lot of fond memories of Frontier Airlines and have flown all over Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and other mid-west states in those beautiful Convair 580's and 737-200's and loved it every time I flew on them. I am stationed in Miami now and see several old Convair's down here for freight carriers and wonder if any of them are the old Frontier models. There are even a few 737-200's flying in and out of Miami that I wonder about. Heck, searching on line I found what was an old Frontier Airlines DC-3 in an airport in California. It has been sitting in the same spot for several years now. It would be neat to do a Frontier Museum and get a couple of the old models done up in Frontier colors before they are all sold for scrap metal. This DC-3 (or actually C-47) would be a great starting plane. -Kevin Adey, son of old Frontiersman, Donald Earl Adey 1933 to 1996 (1/31/10) Hi Kevin, Great hearing from you.
