DICK HILL 1950 - 1985 STATION AGENT DRO PHX There is another old time FL employee with serious health problems. Richard "Dick" Hill started in 1950 here in DRO. He is in an assisted care home in Yuma, AZ. He and his wife spend the winter down there. He got sick just after they got down there and found out he is in the second stage of alzheimer disease. Pretty bad shape. -Vern Crawley (11/16/02) I worked in Durango and knew Walt and Dick very well .. cant believe Walt is gone.. and will try and find Dick Hilll's addy.. I used to take care of their horses when they were away.. I also worked in Vegas before spending the rest of my life with frontier in Denver.. wow.. we are getting OLD. -Eric Mason (8/1/03) I have to report another old timer gone west. He was my life long buddy. We both worked for the old FAL about 35 years. Both started in 1950 and went til the end. His name is Richard "Dick" Hill. He died on Dec 26, 2009 in Yuma AZ from complications of alzheimer disease. His and my families were neighbors and friends since the early 1900s. His grandpa was my dad's grade school teacher. I transferred to PHX in 1958 and Dick & family came down later and worked about a year before transferring back to DRO. He didn't have enough work there. He came back to DRO and worked full time for FL besides running a ranch and milking 35 to 40 head of dairy cows. Dick and I drove a school bus together in the 1950s to make a little extra money. He leaves behind a wife, Glenna, of 62 years and a daughter and two sons. He will be missed. -Vern Crawley (1/8/10) OBITUARY Ruel Richard Hill (1930-2009) Ruel Richard Hill, 79, of Yuma, died Dec. 26, 2009, in Yuma. Post your remembrances of Dick. -Jake Lamkins (1/11/10) I worked for FL in DRO for two or three years during the late 70's and early 80's. I am saddened to know that Walt Rea and Dick Hill have passed on, both of whom were my friends and who "mentored" me in friendship. Thank you again for caretaking the past and the future. -Jerry Jordan (7/4/11) Walt Rea was my first manager too in Durango in 1968 thru 1970. He was a rancher with his other buddies Dick Hill, Bob Seibert, Harry Fassett to name a few with lots of seniority. Harry and Walt were stewards before they became station agents. Bob and I worked nite shift and we would go out in a pickup and check the runways before the 580s would come in on bad weather days. It was a great time in a young man's life and i think of them often.. -Eric Mason (8/15/11)
