His name was Dewey Penley, nicknamed Dewpoint, he was number 3 on the seniority list. Dewey was 93 years old when he passed I'm sending you a picture of him - he worked most of his time in Montrose Colorado until they closed the door and than transfer to Dallas when MTJ closed. -Nick Martinez (9/9/13) Dewey's daughter phoned me and we chatted nearly 15 minutes. Dewey was 92, been ill for 2 years and was cremated. She will email me an obituary, pix and stories later. He had lived in DEN the past 7 years. -Jake Lamkins (9/20/13) Posted at FLacebok and FL Club: MTJ station agent Dewey Penley died this past month, age 92, in DEN. Dewey was #3 on the station agent seniority list when he retired in 1985 after 36 years. No details on services or obituary. -Jake Lamkins (9/20/13) I had not heard of this. Thanks for letting me know. Dewey will always be in the top 10% of the Good Guys list. Hard to believe he was 92! I met Dewey before I joined Frontier. Dewey and my then roommate, Don Bringle, were friends from MTJ. Johnny Myers hired me in May of 1967 for the June 5th class. Sadly, my pal Don was killed in a training accident near Longmont. Not understanding the importance of seniority, I asked for a later class date so that I could take care of Don's funeral. No problem there. I ended up in the July 5th class. Lookin' back I shoulda parked my buddy Don in the corner until I finished my original new-hire class at Frontier. That woulda made a HUGE difference over the next couple of decades. Dewey helped with Don's arrangements and it wasn't long before we saw each other on the MTJ ramp. As with a lot of Frontier folks, Dewey's smile was hardly ever absent. He was so well liked by everyone. ...and he will never be far from my thoughts! -Billy Walker (9/20/13) D C PENLEY Station agent seniority date of 1/12/49, emp# 06984, #3, per the 7/1/84 FL/ALEA Seniority List. Lost track of him about ten years ago when my family and business commitments moved me to Ouray. RIP Dewey -Christina Bonatti (10/15/13) Oh I am so sad to hear about Dewey's passing! He was a gentleman beyond measure (and a fellow Okie!). I am so sorry that I had lost touch with him. When I became one of the first female Station Agents for FL in Montrose, Dewey treated me with such respect, and he taught me how to do the job. What a loss to all of us! Thanks for honoring him here. He was one of a kind! -Shirley Mitchell (8/28/14) FLacebook Shirley Mitchell My first job with Frontier was in Montrose as Station Agent in 1979 - one of Frontier’s first female Station Agents, and definitely Montrose’s first. (We had no Ticket Counter Agents - we all did everything.) Learned so much about aviation from all the old hands there. A wonderful gentleman named Dewey Penley, who I believe started his career there in 1947, taught me everything I needed to know. Dewey was a true gentleman and treated me so kindly - not all the male staff was so accepting! (11/27/21) FLacebook on 10/3/22 Stella Chapman Sleater I graduated from Delta HS and my mom still lived there until 1982. I was a 'stewardess' from 1963 to 1977. I flew into Montrose to visit her and take her on non rev flights. We got to know Dewey quite well. Have lost touch with him. Does anyone know his status or where abouts he might be? Jake Lamkins http://FAL-1.tripod.com/Dewey_Penley.html Stella Chapman Sleater Thank you, Jake. I had no idea he was that old. He was always smiling and acted young. Sounds like he bounced around after he retired. IDK why we lost touch. Maybe because I retired in 1977 when my daughter was born. Fun days of flying in the 60's and 70's. (10/3/22)
