DEE KEARNS 1957 - 1986 STATION AGENT, TICKET COUNTER AGENT PRC TUS L. Dee Kearns has been in the VA Hospital in Tucson for a few weeks in their step down unit (that's just a lower form of ICU) and is not well. He had Pneumonia and is on oxygen all the time and has only one lung operating and has a pretty weak heart. I'm sure he could use a few extra prayers. -Ron Herring (8/25/07) Dee passed away this morning at Tucson Vet's Hospital. His son Jeff was with him when he went West. No arrangements have been made yet. Will advise you when get more information. -Ron Herring (9/2/07) Thanks for the info on Dee Kearns. Is Dee the name he was known by at FL? I have a file on Lellon Kearns who appears to be the same. Let me know funeral arrangements when you get them. -Jake Lamkins (9/2/07) Lellon is the name but no one knew that except us close friends that called him that when we were kidding around. So he was known by Dee or L.D. Kearns. He was loved by all and will be missed so much. He was everybody's friend. One of the best guys I've ever known. -Ron Herring (9/2/07) Posted at the FL Club: TUS station agent Dee Kearns has died Ron Herring emailed: "Dee Kearns, TUS Station Agent, passed away this morning at Tucson Vet's Hospital. The name does not ring a bell but sad to hear that he has passed away. How old was he and what was the cause of his death. Sorry to hear and I'm sure the famly will miss him. -Ginger Ann Treptow (9/2/07) Dee was on medical leave when FL flew the coop but he was well known and lots of fun. I think he was 75. I think Bob Malody knows for sure as they worked together in PRC before TUS. Jim Oby and myself and Bob Malody and Norm Coldwell were visiting Dee quite a lot in the last few weeks and we had all been to visit him this week at the Vet's Hospital and he was not doing very well and was talking about not making it much longer. He was having a hard time breathing and couldn't talk very much. I don't know the cause of death but he went into the hospital a few weeks ago with pneumonia and never did get un-congested in his lungs. I believe he only had one lung that worked tho. He was also taking medicine for his heart. -Ron Herring (9/2/07) L D KEARNS Station agent seniority date of 1/17/57 on the 1/1/74 FL/ALEA seniority list. He was a station agent and TCA at PRC and TUS who started in 1957. I also have no funeral or obituary info. Any info appreciated. -Jake Lamkins (9/4/07) Still no info on an obituary or funeral. I found nothing on a net search. Jake (9/7/07) Email to Ron: Anything new on arrangements for Dee or an obituary? -Jake Lamkins (9/7/07) Don't have anything new and have been checking the Obit's. Bob Malody said Dee's son would let him know if there is a memorial. Dee will certainly be missed by many as he was everyone's best friend and everybody was his best friend, he was always happy and lots of fun. Many of us now know he was a legend of his time. I know there are a lot of people that would go to a memorial if there is one. -Ron Herring (9/8/07) Sorry, to hear about our loss of Dee Kearns. Dee taught me a lot about life when I was a young whipper-snapper as a 21-year-old agent in Tucson. -Dan Price (9/9/07) LELLON DEE KEARNS (Age: 76) TUCSON, AZ -Intelius.com (9/13/07) Couldn't find any obit info online at TUS newspaper or at google.com search. -Jake Lamkins (9/13/07) Lellon ( L.D. or Dee ) Kearns in my book is as close I believe that I will ever get to be associated with an individual imminently deserving of the accolade "Living Legend". Dee was every bit a "Renaissance Man"in the true sense of the definition plus being a marvelous fellow to work & socialize with, and to consider as being a true friend. -Bob Pearson (11/22/07) I looked though my pictures from Tucson and found some I hope you can include in the Old Frontier Obits for some "Gone West" friends. In the group photo taken at a party about 2 weeks after frontier's demise - you already have Conrad Remmel (front row - 2nd from the left) - Could you add Roger Barks (front row - 4th from the left - with dark glasses) Also gone - back row - standing (4th from the left) is Dee Kearns. 5th from the left is Kenny Hett and the last one (11th) is Chuck Hilton. I am standing next to Chuck. -Glenn Hastert (1/14/13) Tucson Citizen Morgue, Part 1 (2006-2009) DEATHS by Tucson Citizen on Sep. 18, 2007 Lellon D. I knew Dee fairly well. This week I found this page: http://fal-1.tripod.com/Dee_Kearns.txt. I understand that you were still trying to find an obituary? I honestly do not think that there was one. Due to circumstances it was me organizing the funeral and a gathering to celebrate Dee's life at the house in Tucson and to scatter his ashes. I made a photo memory card with a poem and another beautiful poem written by Dee himself. In case you would be interested, please let me know. I can send it to you through email. (it is in Word format). -Els Thiebaut (1/11/19) Thank you for contacting me. I would appreciate anything you email me about Dee.
